I gotta give you big props for this, but I have to ask: do you own this movie??

2 Google searches + 90 seconds = FUN!

9ish minutes have been added to the home video release.

I am curious to see if its any of that world-building stuff that had been mentioned, none of which made it into the final film.

Not a disaster in a scale that justifies all the dogpiling that happened but not a movie I'll ever watch again save for the purpose of ogling at Blake Lively and fantasizing about her in the Star Sapphire suit. It just sort of happened.

This is the definition of 'meh'.  Sarsgaard was great. Hector's  "How wonderful that all it took for you to grow is the end of the world!"  was my favorite bit of the movie.

And my favorite cinematic pep talk of the year is when Parallax is hovering over the city poised to attack, Carol tells Hal "You can never beat this. You'll die!".

Wow this movie was awesome at being mediocre.

I can see a sequel happening, because there is so much potential here, but this film felt flat.

Sounds like Katie Holmes' line in Batman Begins.

"Wait!  You could die!  At least tell me your name!"

Yeeeeeees, Rachel.  Send him off to his death AFTER you satiate your curiosity!

I think it was more of "Hey, you've saved my life and you're about go probably go get killed. Tell me your name, so at least one person will remember you".

And I'm saying it again: Katie Holmes was a better Rachel Dawes than Maggie Gyllenhaal. The character was poorly written as all get-out, but at least Katie was able to lend it some authenticity. Gyllenhaal was just dopey as fuck in the role.

D.T., Really? I think Katie Holmes is one of the...worst actresses to ever be in a superhero film.  Maggie Gyllenhaal was far more appealing!

Yes.

I'm not saying Katie Holmes is anywhere near the realm of being a good actress, but she wasn't nearly as terrible and guilty of jolting me out of the experience as Maggie Gyllenhaal was.

Gyllenhaal's performance is so melodramatic, full of effort and breathy. I feels more like she's in a spoof of Batman Begins and is lampooning Katie Holmes' Rachael Dawes, than actually playing the character legitimately. The worst is her scene in the warehouse.

Seriously, that chick would be laughed out of any courtroom. There's no way Maggie Gyllenhaal's take on the character would be able to stand toe-to-toe with the mobsters of Gotham.

Do you dislike Gyllenhal as an actor in general?

I'm honestly pretty indifferent to her. I've never been blown away, nor have I felt her to be abrasive.

Except in The Dark Knight. I think she's just out of her element.

Rachael Dawes was Nolan Batman's biggest drawback. Both as a character and the way she was played. For all his gifts I don't think Nolan knows how to use such characters. Or he even wants to. Or even likes them. It wasn't Holmes' fault and it definitely wasn't Gyllenhaal's. It was all Nolan.

Finally getting around to watching this on Blu Ray. It is one of the most un-involving big spectacle pieces of shit I have ever seen.

I felt the same way Sebastian. I passed out midway in and woke up having felt like I didn't miss a damn thing.

There is literally nothing going on thematically or on a character level that demands my attention. A bunch of stuff you don't care about happens in space, then cut to Earth where a douche you don't care about does some stuff and has some inexplicable fear nonsense that doesn't even make sense in context. He's a Top Gun style maverick who flies into the stratosphere but then has some daddy moment that's supposed to communicate that he's afraid -- IT MAKES NO SENSE! Is he afraid or not? HE FLEW HIS GODDAMN JET INTO SPACE. Who wouldn't be afraid of that? So dumb. I think the only reason people can even sit through this is because they are Green Lantern fans.

What the hurt the movie the most is the complete lack of joy at gaining super powers.

Hal adjusts to the ring, and waking up on an alien planet, with little trouble and the audience never gets to vicariously experience the rush of what it would be like to have that power. Think of Clark Kent outrunning the train, or Peter Parker jumping across rooftops.

Green Lantern doesn't have anything approaching that. It's as empty and shallow as the cinematic Hal Jordan character.

True.  Emerald Dawn I and II had several panels of Jordan "showing off" in a manner consistent with enjoying the hell out of his newfound powers.

My netflix masochism continues with Green Lantern.  Looked murky and dark on my TV, didn't care about anyone, and quit watching right after Reynolds quit what is apparently the worst run police force in the universe.

Who do I need to contact to get the two hours of my life back that I wasted on watching this movie?
