The great Django casting hunt continues

I don't think Foxx is a bad choice at all. The guy certainly has the chops and it would be interesting to see what he and QT can cook up on set performance wise. I know a lot of people are clamoring for Idris Elba, and while the guy delivers in the badass department, I think he might be just a bit too physically intimidating.

BOOOOOOOOOOO!

I wanted Will Smith, too, for the reinvention and for he and DiCaprio working together. I think that duo casting would've been exciting.

However, Foxx is a pretty good fall back.

I hope not, Jamie Foxx just rubs me the wrong way. I think part of it is the prima donna stories I've read, like how he fucked Michael Mann over on the set of Miami Vice. He's one of those guys that I've just never been able to see what the big deal was about.

I thought the idea of casting Will Smith was great, and Idris Elba is a great choice as well. I'm sure Foxx will do fine, but he definitely wouldn't be a top choice for me. But Tarantino knows better than me, so I'll go along with whatever the guy decides.

Also, think there's any chance we'll see Keith David in a role in this? That's guy is way too cool and way too talented and needs to be in something awesome again STAT!

i dont want either. QT, QuiT fuckin around and hire Idris Elba. the end

or Michael Jai White. how come the mans name hasnt been tossed around? either way, my votes with Elba. the man has acting chops on par if not beyond Smith or Foxx, and he's a physically intimidating specimen. plus, i just want to see Stringer Bell go whip to whip with Samuel L

No way QT won't make the right choice, but it'd be a goddamn lie to say I don't want to see Elba take the role.

I want Elba too.  I feel like if I actually write it, it won't happen.  I'm the curse, dammit!

Second pick for me would be Chiwetel Ejiofor, who is badass and baby-faced enough to have grown up with DiCaprio -- I haven't read the script, but isn't that the meat of it?

Good call. I actually like the sound of Chiwetel Ejiofor better than Elba. That guy kicked ass in Redbelt, and I'd love to see him headline a Tarantino film.

agreed Renn. its not that i have anything against Foxx, or Smith for that matter, but he just seems like a famous black actor filled into a starring role for a black actor that most of mainstream america will look at and say, hey, Jamie Foxx, he was really good in (insert movie title here). i dont care how good of an actor he is, he just doesnt scream out "badass, emancipated slave who is going to kick some southern white ass"

but Elba on the other hand.....

and i mean that in the most unracist way imaginable

Ejiofor would be cool too. but if we are leaning that way id rather go with Djimon Honsou

did i spell that right?

Youth or not, Leo better have this facial hair combo...

Guess we're lucky Tyler Perry's name hasn't been thrown around. I don't wanna see SOUTHERN FRIED MADEA. I got no real opinion of Foxx at this time. He was a fine Ray Charles.

I want to be careful about what I say about who I think is right for the part, because scripts change, and all that.  All of these fantastic actors being mentioned can certainly make the role their own, if given the chance.

(That being said, Hounsou is not right for this part, unless he is able to drop that thick as hell accent.)

Foxx doesn't excite me the way some of the other names do, but he strikes me as a better fit than Elba.

Yeah I don't see any relation between the actors other than that they're both black and have hard to pronounce names. I don't see Djimon Honsou working here. Then again I haven't read the script so I really don't know shit.

Considering what a dynamite find Waltz was (for American audiences at least), I wouldn't put it past Tarantino to just pull an awesome unknown out of his hat if the whole big-name casting thing falls through.

This is what I am hoping for, honestly.  Quentin doesn't need a star to anchor his films because his name alone is enough to bring audiences in droves.  Like Hitchcock and Spielberg before him, he has managed to attain that much fame with the general public.  While I have every confidence that QT can pull a great performance out of whoever he finally chooses, Jamie Foxx's potential involvement does not excite me at all.  I have no dislike for Foxx.  I've just never been impressed by anything that he has ever done.  Elba would have been great, but he'll be working for Guillermo Del Toro this fall now, so he's out of the running (if he was ever in to begin with).

Quentin will find the right actor.  He always does.  If he picks Foxx, then I will trust that decision.  I'd be more excited if it were someone else though.
