Brad Pitt, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Jonah Hill.

Someone's agent is getting a big fuckin' Christmas bonus this year.

That looks pretty damn good.

And co-starring Philip Seymour Hoffman as... The Mute!

Curious to see what kind of role he has in this, as he's playing Art Howe (who is much skinnier and about twenty-thirty years Hoffman's senior). And Howe comes across as sort of an oblivious boob in the book (which also seemed accurate, as this Mets fan can tell you).

Finally a movie that truly breaks down how the Oakland A's dominated major league baseball and became the illustrious and thriving franchise they are today.

I think the tragedy that everyone else started copying the A's (and blah blah blah yes I know sabermetrics is older than that -- the A's popularized it on a much grander scale, so they get the credit) and left them once again in the dust would give the movie a nice tragic ending that would put another spin on the title. I hope they don't shy away from it.

Maybe as an afterword. Otherwise this looks like a pretty standard underdog sports movie. One that I'll definitely watch, though.

Apparently Hoffman based his entire performance off of this commercial.

Perfect. Great trailer based on a franchise that became first round Yankee dog treats year after year. This film could be totally relevant if it focused on teams who have no chance against big market teams like the Yankees and became a rallying cry for revenue sharing and a salary cap (Hello NFL who has a team like the Packers win a superbowl and have a chance of competing to win every year tell that to the Kansas City Royals or Pittsburgh Pirates).

Exactly. Billie Bean is such a genius that changed baseball, which is why the A's never actually won even a single pennant throughout this period.
