THE LAST HARRY POTTER TRAILER YOU WILL EVER SEE

You're crying. I'm not crying. It's a Harry Potter trailer, why would I be crying?

Lily telling her son to be brave made me sniffle.  The Quidditch pitch consumed in flames broke the floodgates wide open.  I'm not gonna make it through this.

I count 5 Voldemort "NYAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!"s!

The footage looks fantastic.  I hope it all plays in the actual film.

Me neither. >:(

Both the Lily scenes got me -- the scene where he walks into the woods "Will you stay with me" was what broke me reading the book.  SNIFFLE.

I caught ten. They use it even when Ralph isn't on screen, and they use it as filler in some of the crowd scenes.

TEN.

I only count the ones that sound like Voldemort.  The other ones sound like a crowd of people bellowing.  But yeah, if you include those, there have to be at least 10 NYEEEAAAAHs.

Also, you girls are a buncha girls.  Heheheheh

Also... This film may top LOTR in terms of visual scale (though I don't think it will). But when it comes to really milking those GRAND epic moments for all they're worth, Yates can't touch Peter Jackson excess.  Of course, that very excess can also lead to milking such moments too much.  My biggest complaint with Yates' films is that he tends to underplay a lot of those moments. His ability to really find those subtle moments is what made the relatively plot-less Half-Blood Prince really sing in terms of the characters.

But I was really disappointed with the big moments in Deathly Hallows Part I.  They all look and sound right, but I have a hard time losing myself in them.  They fall flat and feel anti-climactic (apart from the fact that it's literally half a movie).  I have no doubt that my tendency to side-seat direct the film in my head has a lot to do with this, so it's not really fair to Yates.  But I hope Part II really brings the thunder, because the footage really does look great.

"Does it hurt?" caused a complete and total breakdown.  I had to put the book down and go hug my dad.

This thread is actually making me kind of glad I'm single.

Quick, one of you girls tell start talking about the romantic tension between Harry Potter and whoever.

(I kid.)

Whoo boy. This is gonna be a tough one. It would have been hard enough because of the emotions involved in this most wonderful of story finales, but the Potter books and films were the series my ex and I discovered and fell in love with as a couple. This will be the only film of the series we haven't seen together.

I know a lot of folk have already offered thier sympathies Rain Dog but I sincerely hope the next few months are good to you. I hope you've found a little light in the sewer.

On the subject of crying like an infant "Dobby is happy... to be with his friends" had me howling. Good grief.

Just so I know, I take it we are keeping this thread spoiler free?

At first I was going to joke about this thread being a bit too emotional.

Then I remebered my every viewing of ROTK turning into a weep-athon of manly tears of glory and schoolgirl with scraped knee whimpering mix.

So, have at it friends.

Seeing this film will be a great time with my missus.

Back in 2005 she was diagnosed with cancer and one of the first things she got upset about was the thought of not seeing the Harry Potter kids grow up and finish the franchise. Weird I know but she's a massive fan of the books and films and her head was understandably in a strange place.

Six years on and she's still kicking ass and she thinks I've forgotten all of that but after we see in on opening night we're coming home for a bottle of Bollinger I'll have hidden. (We can't afford it, but so what?)

Looking forward to this.

Hopping on the girlie sob train here.  The Lily bit at the end, oh man.  And Stale Elvis that is wonderful, good on you for remembering and I'm sure it will be a really special night for the two of you.

Cheers Verber.

Just trying to book advanced tickets for this now - Is this only released in 3D or is there a 2D version released too? Can't find advanced bookings for 2D...

There are 2D screenings.  I've seen them on Fandango, but they are trying to force that 3D shit down people's throats.  I'd suggest calling your theaters to see who's got it in 2D.  I know that for IMAX, it's unfortunately all 3D.  Not happy about it, but my ass will be there at midnight rocking my Hermione shirt proudly.

Geez, thanks a lot guys.  I was able to watch the trailer totally dry eyed, but then reading the responses to it from chewers made me weepy.

Wow, that trailer makes me want to "nyaaaaaaaaaaaaaa".

...fine, it's been done already, but I couldn't resist. I don't really have a lot to add other than that it looks really epic and I think should make up for the sore points of the first installment in spades; it's kind of weird to think that this is the last Harry Potter movie we have to look forward to (unless that Pottermore thing is, uh, more Potter, which I doubt), but I felt the same way about Return of the King if on a reduced scale. Regardless, I'll be there to see this as soon as it comes out without hesitation-- it looks fucking amazing.

Focus on the badassery. Like the fleeting shots of Molly Weasley ready to drop a bitch.

Also, I didn't know Oldman was back for this. "To the very end" is what launched the goosebump invasion for me yesterday.

Maybe I'm an asshole, but I actually prefer to see emotional moments underplayed. I still find the "you bow to NO MAN" at the end of Return of the King to be one of the worst things I've seen at a cinema. I think my eye-sockets hurt from all the eye-rolling I was doing.

You ARE an asshole, Spike!  But not because you prefer understated emotional moments...hehehe.

Specifically, I think my issue with Yates' handling of the grand moments is that they really do seem to want to be grand.  It's just that something is always holding it back.  I've already said that I don't doubt that a lot of my issues stem from armchair-directing the film in my head well before the movies came out.

And the "You bow to no man," moment is nice!

EDIT:  HA!  I like the moment, and yet I get the line wrong too.

...You're dead to me. Also, it's "you bow to no ONE".

Oh for Christ's sake, I was *kidding*!

Anyway, this looks to be quite the stellar conclusion, and I got goosebumps as well at Gary Oldman's line.

Oh, I was covered in snot at the end of ROTK.  Partly because I was running a super high fever and was wobbly anyway -- but the Grey Havens.  Dammit. And they STILL get me.

Only a handful of films have ever made me cry, and of those, ROTK and Toy Story 3 are the only two that really broke me.  It will be interesting to see if HP 7 does. I remember sniffling at the end of the book, but that was mainly because of who she killed and when

But the trailer -- dammit, stick a cute English baby and wet its face with tears, and you have me getting a little shaky.  Biological clock and all. ;)

Ticket already bought for the 15th.  In 2D, thank you.

This movie looks like it's 100% comprised of money shots.  Cannot wait.  I'm sure there might by something in my eye that night.

I saw the trailer before Green Lantern, and wow, I got goosebumps.  I've never even read a book, just watched these kids grow up on screen.

Just watched Part 1 over the weekend and damn that is a beautiful looking film.  Looking forward to this one as well.  I've never read the book but watching these kids grow up on screen means something right?! right?

That was the scene in the book where I just fell apart as well.  To see it on-screen, even briefly, was quite potent.
