I saw a bunch of trailers this weekend. Some the movies advertised looked promising. Some of them... didn't.
The Movie Formerly Known As Helldorado
The Rock stars in an action comedy with Christopher Walken, who apparently will take any role anyone offers him lately. Now I don't have anything against Dwayne, the wrestler-turned-actor. But the movie just looks bad. I can't even remember the new title.
Cold Creek Manor
How did this one get past my horror movie radar? It seems to be a haunted house movie, but I could be wrong. Great atmosphere, an intriguing mystery, and the return of Sharon Stone. I don't care for Dennis Quaid, but there's plenty of other good stuff there.
Highwaymen
I swear I thought this was a teaser for The Hitcher 2, until I remembered that the Hitcher sequel went direct to video. This movie looks like it could be fun and suspenseful, as long as you forget that you ever saw Duel (or The Hitcher).
Underworld
I liked the teaser several months ago, but it didn't really spell out the vampire vs. werewolf plot. This one took care of that. I likey. Now I just got to make sure that no one spoils the fun for me. I want to go into this one without knowing any more than I do now.
House of the Dead
Somewhere in the middle of this trailer, a character makes a comment about "mutated humans," but then they don't show us squat. Sure, there were lots of quick cuts of fight scenes and shuffling mobs of zombies in the distance. But they didn't show us a close-up of any beastie in make-up. Reminds me of the Resident Evil trailers that failed to mention zombies at all. This movie looks... cheap.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
I don't hate the idea of a remake. I think this series could use some rejuvination. These scenes look good, and the trailer has a great moment where you just hear scary things happening while darkness plays on the screen. It would have been even more effictive if my theater had turned the lights down during the previews.
Lotsa trailers I hadn't seen before. I love it when that happens.
