Wilfred On FX

So, I'm wondering who actually thought this show was a good idea?

I guess its a transplant show, developed for American TV, but it was so totally unfunny and kinda creepy.

haters gonna hate

are you a fan of Louie or Sunny? because this show gives FX a prime trifecta

I found the show to be pretty damn funny. I'll be tuning in next week for sure.

I love absurdity so this is right up my ally.  I rather enjoyed it.

I love Sunny, and I think Louie is really funny, but this show... where to begin?

I didn't laugh a single time watching this show.  I found all the characters extremely annoying.  The jokes all relied on drugs, poop, and a man in a dog suit molesting women, and none of them were funny or original.

There's a whole "Spiritual guide on acid" type thing going on in the show, where Wilfred seems to think having Wood break into people's houses, stealing their weed, and shitting in their boots will somehow free him from a horrible life.  So wierd philosophical stuff mixed with unfunny jokes really doesn't make a good show in my opinion.

I mean, maybe the show will get better?  Who knows.  All I know is that I really didn't enjoy the first episode, and I find it hard to believe anyone else did either.

Sounds like it wants to be Drop Dead Fred, but a bit weirder. Phoebe Cates would be rolling in her grave.

So far so good. I'm definitely in for at least a few more episodes.

but its poop! poop's funny!

haha Frank.

but ill admit its not as good as Sunny or Louie, but it had its moments. a few more episodes will give us a better idea of its potential

The original wasn't so much laugh out loud funny as much as it was slightly warped funny. The twisted relationship between the loser of a main character and an anthropomorphic dog wasn't quite reminiscent of anything else I've seen in awhile and that feel is carrying over to the American version.

You're damned right poop's funny.

Poop, fart and dick jokes were good enough for Aristophanes. They're good enough for me. And mentioning Louie, wasn't the whole sister bit a long setup to a fart joke? It's in the delivery. And the delivery in Wilfred was good.

I thought it was pretty damned funny.

Well, to each his own.  But y'all are crazy!  lol.

I downloaded the 1st season of the Aussie series. Only watched the first episode but definitely like the US version better. The Elijah Wood counterpart isn't as interesting. He's the girl's boyfriend rather than some strange suicidal loser.

I enjoyed the pilot thoroughly but my biggest worry with this show is how is can last more than 6 episodes and maintain it's sense of humor.

I loved the dog head silhouette outside the window puffing on a cigarette.

Best comedy pilot in forever.

The second episode was better than the first.

Its still a really fuckin' weird show though.

". . . but I can't quite put my finger in it." sucker punched me good.

I loved the pilot.  Will watch 2nd ep this weekend.  Yeah, it's weird, but one of the things that I love about it is, about the time you've sort of forgotten that Wilfred is a dog, he suddenly does something like turning around 3 times before he sits on the couch, or dig holes in the backyard because he's sure that his owner isn't coming back.  I hope they can hold on to that straddling the weird/funny vibe.

I love it. As a comedy double act, I think I like FX's Luie/Wilfred as much as Community/30 Rock.

I think this dog character might become one of the funniest ever.

"That hot chick who fiinger-banged you."

I could see what WIlfred was doing from the dentist's office, but it only slightly dented my enjoyment of the episode. And that closer...fucking Chris Klein?! Awesome.

One thing I found interesting with the US version is McCann staying on as the lead and therefore staying Australian.  VERY Australian.  I was curious how alot of the dialect would play to an American audience.  You know, "Maaaaaaaaaaate", "wanker", etc.  I know it's 2011 and all, but when someone with an English accent has English subtitles on a US show, it just makes me wonder how things like that relate?

To me, an Australian accent is much more decipherable than most English ones. Honestly, I forget about him having an accent most of the time.

Clein as the dick boyfriend is a good example of perfect casting.

Oh, not so much the accent.  Just the dialect and slang, ya know?

Well, then that too.

I used that phrase no less than 3 times this weekend after my wife and I watched the episode.

"Ryan!  It's a pelican!"

I woke up Saturday morning with, "Ryan, it's a pelican!" with his little dance in my head, followed swiftly by, "Ryan, it was a pelican!"

Is this an amazing show?  No.  Is it ridiculously hilarious like Archer?  No.  Do I already almost love it?  Yes, very.

I must say, this show took me completely by surprise.  I really had no idea what it was about other than Elijah Wood seeing a dog as a guy in a suit.  The beginning had me laughing, but once Wilfred quietly pulled out the Gatorade bong and began taking tokes, I fell in love with it.   Too good.

Sunny is absolutely hilarious, but Louie is fucking genius.  There's a sharp edge to Louie that isn't there in any other American comedy I've seen.  Wilfred looks like it'll turn into pretty great show.  What makes Wilfred work so far though is the acting, and some solid writing.

Science has categorically proven that FX already hit the trifecta with Louie, It's Always Sunny and... Archer.

That being said, I finally caught up with the pilot last night and believe Wilfred could--possibly--lead to the relatively unheard of quadfecta.  My biggest concern is how the writers intend to sustain the show's core conceit without it becoming downright gimicky.

Caught up on both episodes tonight. The Pelican bit slayed me. Also loved the reveal that his sister gave him sugar pills.

I do think though it would make a much better partner for Sunny than it would Louie.

and if it does attain the quadfecta...it would have to be a quad and a half fecta. "The League" is funny but just not in the same class as the others.

Okay, speaking as someone who hated the first episode, Fear was pretty fuckin' funny.

The laser pointer thing was gold.  The porn outs were great.  The strip club scene was fantastic.  Wilfred's monologue about "is the sky grey?" was really funny.

If more episodes are like this, I might just become a fan.

And the next episode with the Dog Molester looks like it could top this one.

These scenes made me laugh hilariously outloud.

OK, this episode was gold. McCann's timing and delivery are perfect.

That little wanky gesture he gave after the heart-felt monologue was fantastic.

Fantastic episode. And next week looks great too.

The water gun and the training was pretty darn good this week, especially for anyone who's ever had to train their dog by squirting it with water, lol.

I was kinda surprised at the dog molester thing, though.  I thought they'd make it more clear that Wilfred was making the whole thing up, but they left it kinda ambiguous.

I think that's the fun of the series--you really don't know if Wilfred is telling the truth or fucking with Ryan (and us the viewer).

Really coming to like this show. I was telling my wife that I'm starting to believe that everything that goes on with Ryan and Wilfred is in his head. There's never any reaction when Ryan starts talking to Wilfred unless Ryan makes some sort of outburst. For some reason I get the feeling that by the end of the season, we find out that Ryan has a brain tumor and so you don't know what's real anymore. Then look at next season be Ryan getting the tumor removed and nothing has changed with Wilfred.

"It's a stuffed animal."

"Yeah, Ryan, stuffed with pain and humiliation ... and Darryl's cum ... and bits of foam, I think."

"LUCKY COINCIDENCE!".

That is all.

This show rules. And for all the crude jokes it is very well thought out.

I think it gets better and better every week. It's turned into must see viewing.

"Thunder!"

"How'd you do that?"

"LUCKY COINCIDENCE!"

lulz.  This episode had a lot of great lines in it.  All the old people wishing for death was pretty funny.  Wilfred's motivation all comes down to wanting cheese which makes him gaseous.  Perfect.

This episode really showed how evil Wilfred could be, which is kinda interesting.

I have to say it again. Chris Klein as a douchebag is just inspired casting.

"He's gonna wreck that, mate".  Damn near wet myself in the first two minutes.

This show disturbs me.  I enjoy it.  Don't get me wrong.  But it is so mean and vulgar and sad.  I typically watch a good quarter of every episode with my mouth open with shock.  I am surprised at the "guest" stars they have already had this season.  Not too bad.

This past episode?  Bending the giraffe's neck backward for head?  Just about killed me. "The animal with the deepest throat"  bahahaha

Yeah, isn't it great?

This episode also gets double plus bonus points for having the mom from Malcolm In The Middle in a sexual scenario. My original MILF.
