My man-crush for Stewart continues to grow.
Watched this earlier in the week. It was fantastic.
His followups on The Daily Show afterward were also awesome sauce.
Amos and Andy? God I want to kick Wallace in the balls so fucking hard right now.
You could tell that REALLY pissed off Stewart. Wallace was calling him a racist without saying the words, which is chickenshit.
Damn. Stewart is a great man on the issues. He backs up his information. Terrible interview from Chris Wallace, but greatness from Stewart.
This really comes back to a simple rule with which I live my life. Never get into a war of words with a comedian you'll never win.
Which is the exact kind of chickenshit behavior that's expected from FOX types. Stewart should have called him on it. Right then, right there, without mincing words at all.
It really riled me up, and I was just sitting at the computer watching it. There's something about old conservative people trying to point at somebody and go "Aha! Racist!" that actually gets me pissed off.
The whole interview is kind of touch to watch anyway.Stewart's great as always, not letting himself be painted with a brush, sticking to his issues, and not rising up to the bait. But, Wallace just spent the entire conversation desperately trying to fuck-up Stewart. By the time he gets into, what? The Daily Show is on the channel with South Park, so it doesn't deserve any credit? I just gave up.
Yeah, I know part of Stewart's skill has been acting neutral, and not just letting these guys have it. But man would I have enjoyed seeing Wallace called on those tactics. There's no way you can have station like Fox, and then accuse somebody else of racism.
Yeah, FOX's blatantly-anchored-in-racism "Terrorist Fist-Jab" scare tactic from the '08 campaign still makes my blood boil. Fuck these people.
The retarded part about that - which I wish Stewart would have articulated - is that Stewart works on a comedy network, and Wallace works on a news network. If you have to compare the clowns on your news network with dick and fart jokes on Comedy Central in order to establish some semblance of equivalence, you've already lost the debate.

The incredible part about that is how Wallace, apparently powerless to adjust the script on the fly, rolls the clip and goes "but Comedy Central is full of stupid shit! You're shit's stupid too!" As if Stewart himself hadn't spent the preceding ten minutes expounding on how Comedy Central is full of stupid shit and Fox should be humiliated to acknowledge him as an actual rival.
That ability to go through the motions of a conversation while utterly refusing to acknowledge what the other person is actually saying is sort of impressive in a twisted kind of way.

It's not the first time that that tactic's been tried. Back in 2004 Stewart was on Crossifre:
STEWART: It's not honest. What you do is not honest. What you do is partisan hackery. And I will tell you why I know it.
CARLSON: You had John Kerry on your show and you sniff his throne and you're accusing us of partisan hackery?
STEWART: Absolutely.
CARLSON: You've got to be kidding me. He comes on and you...
(CROSSTALK)
STEWART: You're on CNN. The show that leads into me is puppets making crank phone calls.

Yea, no one ever accused Faux News chimps of being intelligent. Stewart destroyed Wallace. Earlier on in his career, Jon wasn't able to handle these types as well, for instance his first appearnce on ORiely wasn't a resounding success, but now he just chews em up.
ANd what's with Wallace's all knowing smirk? It drives me absolutely insane. It's just fucking ridiculous, especially since there is no reason for him to have it!
Ya gotta keep smirking! The moment you stop is the moment you LOSE!
There are few things that get my blood boiling faster than someone being brought on to talk and not being allowed to talk.
I'd seen pieces of the cut down version, but the dodging there was amazing.
WALLACE: I don't think our viewers are disappointed with us at all. We're finally giving them the other side of the story.
STEWART: And of the networks, whose viewers are constantly the most ill-informed? Fox News.
WALLACE: What about your network?!? (Cue the Roast of Pamela Anderson.)
I've seen Stewart in many of these situations and he always handles himself well, but this is the first time he looks angry in spots.
Here's what kills me with these guys. Can there be smug lefties? Sure, absolutely. But in all honesty? They have plenty to be smug about. They might not be right about every single issue, and they might be doing something because it's fashionable. But at this point the most mis-informed pot-smokin' "Dude no blood for Oil!" spouting dorm-room Marxist seems intellectually more honest, and just a lot less fucking retarded than the general conservative base in this country.
Just look at Wallace here. First he's trying to turn Stewart into an enemy, making him out to be a big lefty hitman who's targeting his honest audience. And then he's pulling retarded clips that what? Showcase that somebody didn't get up on television and perfectly explain the latest "White people are scared of brown people" law as a sign of a deep-seated Liberal Bias in the media? When his channel as one poster put it equated a fist-bump with TERRORISM.
This isn't dumb, this is just retardation on top of retardation.
He was practically spitting fire when he was talking about the networks cutting away from Pelosi.
His Crossfire segment years ago was 100% better than this. The thing a lot of people miss on Stewart is that he decries the left right para dime. Totally.
He just doesn't make fun of the cool kids as much understandable and whats especially interesting is that his brother is a big Wall Street guy and he slammed Obama on how similar the monetary economic policy is with the last administration.
Good for him. Thats something nobody who works on television news would do period.
Yeah his Crossfire segment I watch sporadically just because it's awesome.
I thought the best part about this was how that Pamela Anderson clip was from way back in 2005.
If the media does have a left leaning slat; then how come Bush saying he wasn't "concerned" or that he "doesn't think about Bin Laden" a lead story?
If thats at all serious I have 4 words for you.
The War On Terror.
The whole thing is a joke and to anyone who understands the situation can tell you the press likes people ignorant and thinking two dimensionally.
Add up the billions spent on that. We are now in 5 campaigns (Iraq, Afganistan, Libya, Pakistan *drone strikes nearly every week*, and recently bombing Yemen).
China and Russia are telling us to stop. Why is that? Why on earth do they care?
We are watching the fulcrum of federal reserve interest rates/Quantitative Easing, domestic spending, free trade imbalance and Military Spending over two trillion a year quickly speeding us off the cliff.
Chris Wallace is not a dumb guy but his "evidence" of the "mainstream media's" bias was easy for Stewart to shoot down. First of all, Fox is the highest rated cable news network, so if cable can be mainstream, it's it. Secondly, Stewart is completely right that the news media has become completely lazy and uninterested in reporting the actual news because it sees successful Fox's business model and tries to ape it. Ownership by big corporations with intersecting ties to all the most corrupt big industries (which all of them are) contradict the news man's historical duty to report the actual news. Jon Stewart is frustrated with the "news" period. Chris Wallace kept trying to bring out the chestnut that there's a liberal bias when there clearly isn't. I've been a little disappointed with the "libertarian" in Stewart lately, but he totally won this round against Fox's best man for the job, and that's significant.
I have to say that Stewart is very classy in this interview. He obviously respects Wallace, even after that snide smirk and "Amos n Andy" remark.
It's surprising, though, that considering how hard Wallace tried to go after Stewart, and taking his post-interview comments into consideration, he pussies out and apologizes to Bachmann so quickly after calling her a "flake." The fat FNC paycheck he's getting probably makes up for the hypocrisy, but I wonder if he really believes the shit he has to peddle on Sundays.
Just read the transcript of this. Is Chris Wallace really the most respectable guy Fox has? Because if so, wow. That he was actually happy to admit that Fo sees itself as being the rightwing balance of the media is astonishing, his equation of Fox News to Comedy Central even moreso. Seriously, guys: half your country is fucked.
What is so headache inducing about this is how false the premise of Wallace's argument is, and his lack of self awareness that he doesn't see the irony in comparing a News Network to a Comedy Channel!
I mean, when he plays the clip from a roast, what is his point?!? And, in full smugness mode he tries to say Comedy Central is not funny. You know, I'm not a fan of South Park, but why in the world is Chris Wallace even giving us his opinion on whether he thinks that show is funny or not?
I would love to see an interview with somebody asking his dad what he thinks about his son's career. I can't really imagine any other than embarrassment and disappointment from his part.
Just catching up on this. Absolutely brilliant.
Sorry make that 4 trillion http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/much-wars-cost-report-says-4-trillion-130934180.html
What I love about Stewart going on Fox for an interview is how they craft these interviews to try to discredit what he does, and yet they seem to forget every time that he is such an intelligent man that he is able to refute every claim they make against them, forcing whoever it is on fox that Stewart is talking to to start talking over him and move on to the next question as fast as they can so Stewart is hardly ever able to finish a point. The sad thing is that most people who watch Fox an see this probably find that Wallace or O'Reilly or whoever it may be really gave it to Stewart when that's just not the case at all.

What is so headache inducing about this is how false the premise of Wallace's argument is, and his lack of self awareness that he doesn't see the irony in comparing a News Network to a Comedy Channel!

It's actually reaching a point that it has to be a company policy of "enforced belligerent ignorance". If you can count on your viewer base to not give a shit about objective reality, why not just go the blowhard route. Sooner or later, even Wallace, who is arguably one of the last somewhat mature faces left on FOX, will be reduced to closing his eyes, sticking his fingers in his ears and blowing raspberries.
I was a bit disappointed watching Stewart's silly voice compilation thing the other day. Just looked weak, like he feels he actually has to defend himself against that "Amos n Andy" bullshit. He shouldn't even dignify it with a response.
And holy shit, I never knew Mike Wallace was related to Chris Wallace.
I'm inclined to agree with the 72nd Disciple in that it's disappointing that Fox News appears to have succeeded in putting Stewart on the defense. But I think he generally wanted to own the issue (regarding his 'offensive' impressions ) rather than shying away from it or excusing it. It is what it is. There's that quote from James Carville, something about how when you wrestle with a pig both sides get covered in shit and the pig ultimately enjoys it. There's something equally amusing and repulsive about the way the entire Fox News apparatus turned on Stewart after his appearance on Wallace's show. It seems to be both sides are having a bit too much fun here.
Wallace is a real slimy figure. That. Fucking. Smirk. It drives me crazy. But on the other hand I think from a conservative perspective Jon's cutesy "aw-shucks" demeanor is probably equally galling, especially when his words are so biting. So I don't know. Points of view and such.
