Somehow missed the "giant robots" things up until now. I'm kinda disappointed by that facet, honestly.

As a MASSIVE kaiju fan, I'm super-excited about this project.

That said, the Charlie Day rumor has been around since before Idris Elba (who took the role that Tom Cruise had been circling) attached to the film, so it isn't really new.  Hell, Day has already confirmed that he has met with GDT about the film, though nothing is official just yet.

At this point, I'm taking the Superman/Batman/Spielberg approach with Guillermo. I'll believe this shit is happening when there's a trailer.

I think Robots Vs. Monsters is fun and all, but it's still primarily two sets of FX smashing the shit out of each other. I like Del Toro's humanity, and this pitch seems curiously devoid of it. I know he's earned the benefit of the doubt, but I can't deny I'm a little bemused.

Yes, but you are operating under the assumption that no aspects of the robots and monsters will be practical.  Remember who we are talking about here.  The man LOVES practical FX............and Godzilla movies.  I suspect we'll end up with some sort of combination of physical and digital effects for the robots/creatures and cities.

If you think he won't find a way to put Doug Jones, Brian Steele, etc. into monster/mech suits and give us actual performances, you're crazy.

Del Toro, giant robots, monsters.

This is what the movies were MADE for.

If GDT includes an ode to what I've posted below, I'll declare it the greatest film of all-time....
