Screen Daily is reporting that the visual FX of World War Z will be handled by Cinesite. They’re currently on a roll, having just worked on X-Men: First Class, Battle: Los Angeles and the upcoming John Carter of Mars adaptation. “We’re very excited to have been awarded such a significant portion of visual effects for … Continue reading

I still can't help but feel a little reserved about all this. It's great the book is getting adapted for the screen but I just think the scope and story won't be done justice by one film. I think with the material itself, while flawed in some regards, there was an opportunity with it to be the defining moment of the genre in a format like we've seen with Game of Thrones on HBO or even a mini series like Band of Brothers.  I just have a feeling we'll be seeing "okay here's a ten minute flashback to the Battle of Yonkers..looks cool..now moving on.."-style vignettes taped together in support of Brad Pitt.

From the rumors I've heard about this, mostly shooting locatins, it's going to be more about the military side of the war, with a bit of Israel thrown in.

I figured that's what the focus would be (and the book does delve into that aspect quite a bit) and that's what is going to put butts in the seats.  It's easier to sell something like the Battle of Yonkers than the re-education of Hollywood Super Agents as janitors by their former housekeepers..which is some of the stuff I found most fascinating about the world Brook's was showing.  How society broke down, endured and evolved around a total commitment to war against an enemy that had the face of your friends and family but was entirely inhuman.

Just don't think you can explore that kind of depth and story in a one shot film.

It's like nobody's gotten the memo that TV is the best way to tell big stories these days. God dammit, Hollywood. I do hope they keep the zombie tracking dogs story in there. Always enjoyed that one. Mostly because, puppies!

My expectations for the film dropped when I read they had cast a female love-interest for Pitt's character. Of course the details could have changed since then, but it makes me nervous...

I definitely agree with the opinion that a miniseries would have best for the material based on the amount of different stories in the book, but, regardless, it'll probably put my ass in a theater seat.
