MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL TRAILER ACCOMPLISHES ITS MISSION - Page 2

OK, thanks for the briefing. Anyway, was that Tom Wilkinson I saw talking to Cruise at the beginning? He's not listed on the film's IMDB page, but that definitely looks and sounds like him.

It's totally Tom Wilkinson.

Well, I thought so, but wanted to make sure as, again, he's not listed on the IMDB page yet. Maybe he's pulling a Hopkins and appearing uncredited?

I severely doubt it.  As far as I know, no one involved with the production has ever even suggested that Cruise plans on handing over the franchise to another actor.  Those rumors started when Jeremy Renner was in talks for the movie.  Simon Pegg has even said that the movie isn't done in a way to suggest that Cruise is leaving anytime soon.  Either the news outlets just assumed Renner was taking over after this one because of his newfound stardom.............

.............or the production started the rumors because Jeremy Renner's character is (in my opinion) the film's secret villain.

See above.  That said, at this point I think we can just accept rogue IMF agents as a franchise staple.

I'll wait to see how this turns out, but the trailer did nothing for me. It looks like the pilot episode of some Fox television show, albeit with the budget to film in Dubai. I personally thought the trailer for M:I3 was far superior. Hopefully I'm wrong and this will turn out to be great but, for now, it's not making my list of anticipated 2011 movies.

I hate to admit it, but I have a soft spot for all three M:I movies.  The first one for it's semi-complex/intelligent plot, the second for it's brash, over-stylized action, and the third for it's score, it's smoothness, and my biased admiration for J.J.

Brad Bird is honestly the only reason I'm psyched for this movie.  Without Bird, I would shrug this off like it's any other spy movie, a la  SALT or KNIGHT AND DAY.

I remember nothing from the first one save for the ceiling drop.

The second one was a monkey's inflamed, bleeding hemmorhoid with doves flying out from the open wound in slo-mo.

The third one was meh.

And yet, this trailer makes me want to see this film.  Good job, editor person!

Nice. Probably the shittiest thing I've seen someone write on this board in a while, especially in response to a pretty clearly facetious piece of mock outrage from myself.

That was a pretty great trailer, and I thought the musical choice worked perfectly. With Bird directing and Bad Robot producing, I'll remain a bit hopeful the actual film is good.

And I'm still mystified by all the hard-ons Renner conjures in these parts. I've seen him in a few flicks, including The Hurt Locker, but I just don't get why people go so nuts for him. He does brooding/borderline crazy well, but so do a lot of other guys.

Yea, Renner's cool, I like the dude, but I'm really surprised by how he has become this huge deal with all the franchises being thrown his way.  And I agree with you Michael, I haven't really seen him do anything other than his quite brooding act, which a lot of actors do well.

I just think Holloway is better at charismatic and witty, and that he'd be far cooler as a mysterious IMF agent sparring with Cruise.  It's not like I think Holloway is automatically the better choice for any potential role, but this is one that I'd prefer him in.  Hopefully, he gets some solid screen time in this new MI flick.  I read the early word on this new one is huge.

And Andrew, sorry for the barb, but I'm not the one that's seemingly pissed off all the time for no reason.  I guess you have a lot of mock outrage in you.  And you cannot call it mock outrage when the sentiment behind it is genuine, which it obviously was.

I must've missed me spitting anger and shouty messages all over this forum. Oh well - better to be known as a pissed-off guy than someone who launches unpleasant personal attacks for no reason, I guess.

That would've been very promising, R.D., but sadly all I got from him was a pretty routine bumbling British nerd vibe; the neo-Q. So more of the same from what we saw last time, basically. Not that it's a bad thing when it's someone as good as Pegg, just a shame it looks so generic.

That goes for the rest of the trailer, too. Nice-looking, certainly, but without anything to really make it stand out to me. Any excitement I have for this comes from the people involved and the first and third outings, not the trailer. And that Eminem song was not only poor but also totally out of place. Kinda hated the whole "this ain't your father's Mission: Impossible!" mood it was trying to establish, actually.

Tom Cruise has got to get back to being popular with the younger generation somehow.

I liked the trailer, but I agree with this.  That song is the worst song on his new album, hands down.

Alright, im in.

It's worth a chuckle that a franchise that put Limp Bizkit front and center is getting shit for some Eminem in the trailer.

I don't care who does the music as long as it's good. That Eminem song is terrible and horribly at odds with the trailer; that's the only reason I even felt the need to comment on it. There are far worse soundtrack offenders than Durst and chums' contribution to the second film.

I can understand the need to keep it fresh, shame they got rid of Rhy Meyers and Maggie Q.

In the trailer, Paula Patton does the exact same thing Maggie Q does in III, sexy exit from a sports car. So I hope they are interesting characters at least.

Josh Holloway with a new haircut is strange; but loved him just running of a buliding, awesome moment.

So I take Tom Wilkinson is the "name" boss this time round?

Did Maggie Q not survive part 3? Can't remember. Bummer. Maybe I should watch that one again.

This looks like it has potential to spare.

Ethan's team made it through MI3 intact.  Pegg and Rhames are back for the new one, but Rhys-Meyers and Maggie Q are not.
