audio recording

What would you guys suggest as a low priced audio recording option. Most of what we have done is record into the camera which is not the best quality sound and we want to get something better. And, I do mean low priced cause I am poor right now. I have heard something mentioned about the Zoom but there are many different variations and I have no idea what to look for. We have a shotgun mic, boom stick and lapel mics but want something better to record into separately from the camera.

EDIT: Never mind, thought you were talking about recording music, my bad!

free audio editing software.  You can use it to record with on a laptop or something.  Get a mixer and run your mics into it, then out of the mixer into the line input of the computer.  It's a sort of cheap and dirty way of doing it, but it should help with what you need.
