Necessary Roughness on USA

Anybody catch this one?  It was okay.  I really hate seeing the whole "I gotta fight for my kids!" subplots because I usually don't care about the characters kids and they just seem to waste the viewers time while writers shove more melodrama into the show.  Like seriously, I don't care about her daughter skipping class and dressing like a slut.

The main character was okay, but the whole "tough therapist" thing has been done before, so its not much of a hook.  I do like the "inside sports" plots we get, and the mysterious handler guy was pretty cool.  I almost wish the show was about him, lol.

Overall, seems like another vanilla, predictable USA show.

Does anybody actually like these USA programs? The shows are so fucking bright and sunny. I think the network uses the same cinematographer for every single series they produce. His name is Joey and he loves bright blue skies. It's absurd. These shows, they all look at the same, they all sound the same, there are no stakes and nothing ever changes. I'm just wondering if there are actually people who would really get invested into "Necessary Roughness" on the USA network? What kind of discussion would a show like this even generate? Not trying to be a hater. Just really don't understand what the USA network wants from me here.

If it don't have Scott Bakula and Sinbad, forget about it.

Hey, White Collar is great!

But this wasn't.  They didn't take it far enough with the football player, who is so obviously modeled after Terrell Owens that a lawsuit could be pending.  The teen daughter was a little cunt who I don't want to watch for an entire series.

I like a lot of shows on USA.  Yes, they all have similar looks, but that doesn't mean they're bad.  Psych, Suits, Burn Notice, and White Collar are all really good, and to a lesser extent shows like Covert Affairs, In Plain Sight, and a few others are enjoyable to watch.  This isn't a bad show, its just not really that engaging yet.

That is why I had to stop watching Burn Notice. It was a fun show with a cast of likeable people but holy shit NOTHING ever changed. Not to mention the whole thing was just a little too light hearted at a certain point. It became very A-Team to the point where you would have these huge gun fights and no one would get killed. The lengths this guy would go to not not shoot anyone while at the same time putting all of his family friends in danger was astounding.

The second episode wasn't as grating as the first one, probably because there was a lot less ex husband and child drama.  The newscaster thing was interesting, and the football player getting in trouble over twitter was pretty entertaining too.

Though I don't really see her being "rough" with anyone, except maybe her daughter - who seems to really like to date douchebags, lol.

Her constant dreams about hooking up with the sports trainer guy was amusing though.  Oh, and the team's handler is an ex-navy seal?  Nice!  He's probably the most interesting character in the show.  I'd like to see more of him.

Callie Thorne is so hot but it's so weird seeing her play another character other than Sheila on Rescue Me.

I always think of her as McNulty's ex-wife, although I bailed on Rescue Me midway through the 3rd season.

Ha ha, yeah, she is totally McNulty's wife.

The last two episodes have been okay.  There is nothing really fun or exciting about this show, though.  It's not a bad show, but its very "meh."  I can't stand her kids, her quasi-romance with the trainer guy is boring, the Football Star who she's treating is really annoying too.  The new clients she gets are interesting, though, but they're just one and done as far as the series is concerned.  I really like the "handler" guy on the show, though.  I almost wish he was the main character and we'd have to see him put out all these fires that flare up because of bad behavior from the team.

It seems like most of the actors from Rescue Me are making their way to the USA Network next. Denis Leary signed on to write and produce a new show called Sirens. It's supposed to be a comedy about a group of paramedics. Jack McGee who played Chief Reilly on Rescue Me the first 3 1/2 seasons is going to be in a new show and I read a while back that the actor who plays Sean signed on for a new show on USA.
