MOVIE OF THE DAY: THE ACCIDENTAL TOURIST

Just saw this not too long ago & it has NOT aged well. It's 2 hrs of miserable, well off white people in sweaters navigating the minefields of basic human empathy. Yeah, Geena Davis is great but Hurt is not the relateable guy the film seems to want & need him him to be. His bizarre emotional detachment borders on socioapathy at times & Davis' character's involvement comes off as patent desperation & it's just depressing.

Lawrence Kasdan should make more films.

I watch this movie every now and then.  I'd count it as one of my favourites.  I think it does show the traps people dig for themselves and I disagree with the idea that the movie is reduced because the characters are mostly well off (financially).  I know people like this and it is like seeing a new movie every few years.  Even though I seem to connect over and over with the mopey Macon and not the transformed man we imagine at the end of his arc.  Lawrence Kasdan has made some excellent movies.  I only wish Dreamcatcher had left the military and the monster out of it and stayed with the guys at Hole in the Wall.  When it was intense and gross I think it was too much for people.  I'm delighted to see that Kasdan will get back into his character movies and his long absence is about to end. 

The proto-Wes Anderson film, I like that reading. It's been over a decade, but I recall it being very funny, too. And I really like William Hurt' in it. Now I'm torn on whether to revisit. (I love the follow up I LOVE YOU TO DEATH even more. If you haven't seen it, check it out. It's my second favorite after BODY HEAT)
