Pretty weak "grilling" overall. Started off nice and uncomfortable, but in the end they got off easy with razor sharp James doing all the heavy lifting and Murdoch himself coming out of it looking like a frail old man who knew nothing about anything, the innocent victim of pie throwing anarchists.

How gross.

I always had a soft spot for The Times both for their history and for being one of the publications that helped me learn English, but I guess Murdoch's taint is just too powerful.

On a tone more fitting to the internet, how about that Louise Mensch that was trolling Piers Morgan on CNN last night? She puts the Meeeeow in MP.

The Times has always been a paper specifically for cunts. It's the articulate man's The Sun.

That's a tad strong, Spike...I DON'T read the Times myself, but...

...alot of my black friends do...

When I was training to be a journalist we had someone from The Times come in to do a Q and A session and he was almost a parody of all the worst journalist stereotypes. Talking about how he lied to get information, revelling in his power to turn public opinion, talking about smiting the enemies of the Times. He was essentially a fucking nutjob, but it really skewed my opinion of the paper, and the profession itself.

Does he STILL work there?

This would have been back in 2003. His name was Mr. Henderson and he was an odious piece of work.

Yeah, caught that the other day. Classic. Not a fan of hers, but anyone who can make the twat lose his composure live on air must be commended:

I've only watched a couple of Piers Morgan interviews, but from what I've seen he is the worse kind of sick making, sycophantic interviewer. His foksy arse-licking of celebrities sticks in my craw.

Some may have found my dad blunt, but at least you knew what you were in for.

Now this guy is crooked as fuck, but it would be fantastic if it helps bring Morgan down.

Add Heather Mills to the list...

Sickening.  I really hope the worm turns on Murdoch's snakepit.

Murdoch didn't pussy out and cry at Ground Zero, for one thing.

This is really gearing up again right now, with the Murdochs testifying and dragging the current Tory administration down into Hell with them. I have tingles!

I liked his line about clearing up a few myths. I mean it's not like he owns several major newspapers and TV stations that could have gotten that message out in the last 30 years is it?

Oh, sweet!

What do you thing UK chewers? Will there be any follow-through or they will just stop at angry words?

It's getting kind of embarrassing now, like watching your too-drunk and too-rich aunt and uncle hurling sexual slurs at each other over Christmas dinner.

Of course, that goes without saying. Unfortunately they're holding the January sales budget and while they're arguing we can't sort out buying a new sofa and shit this metaphor is just getting way too complex.

News Corp Confirms Plan to Split Company

The only reason that this is being done is to protect certain assets from any lawsuits due to the spying scandal. It's a pretty sneaky business move.

The other thing that I couldn't help but find amusing is that even though it's not a 'publishing' business, the Fox News channel is being lumped into the 'entertainment' division.

Quote:

News Corp. (NWS, NWSA) said it will separate its publishing business from its film and television divisions in a move that splits some of the world's biggest media brands into two distinct public companies.

One company will house entertainment businesses including 20th Century Fox, Fox broadcast network and Fox News Channel, while the other will contain publishing assets, which include The Wall Street Journal and the Times of London along with HarperCollins book publishing and News Corp.'s education business.

It's always nice to have a confirmation straight from the horse's mouth.

Fox's U.S. TV station licenses challenge

Joe Flint | Los Angeles Times

A public policy watchdog group has asked the Federal Communications Commission to strip News Corp.'s Fox Broadcasting of licenses it has to operate television stations.

Citing the phone-hacking scandal that has engulfed News Corp.-owned newspapers in Britain, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed a petition to deny Fox's applications to renew licenses for three of its TV stations - WTTG-TV and WDCA-TV in Washington, D.C., and WUTB-TV in Baltimore.

"It is well-established that News Corp. has been involved in one of the biggest media scandals of all time," said CREW executive director Melanie Sloan. "Its reporters hacked voice mails and bribed public officials while top executives - including (News Corp. CEO) Rupert Murdoch - either approved the conduct or turned a blind eye."

News Corp. and Murdoch have apologized about the ethics scandal, which led to the closing of its tabloid News of the World and the departure of several senior executives. The company has been investigated by lawmakers there and blasted for the lack of ethics at some of its newspapers. Murdoch's son, James Murdoch, has been singled out for criticism because he had oversight of the British newspapers for several years.

While U.S. lawmakers are also investigating News Corp. to determine if any of the bad behavior overseas happened here as well, the FCC has shown little public interest in getting involved in the matter.

Noting that being of good character is a requirement for holding a broadcast license, CREW's Sloan said, "If the Murdochs don't meet British standards of character, they can't meet American standards. The Atlantic Ocean has no character-cleansing properties."

A Fox spokesperson declined to comment.
