The KLF

Just re-discovered KLF via YouTube. Was there ever a band that rocked so hard while being so so over the top and pretentious? (and yes I am aware that those titles have many claimants. )

But I submit this video , celebrating the Viking discovery of North America for your consideration:

Long, over-wrought and pretentious spoken word prologue: Check

Great music, suitable for jogging: Check!

A pause in the song about 2/3s along so they can do a weird over-wrought "AMEEERRRRICAA!" sung by three guys in yellow robes standing on a rock in the middle of the Atlantic (during a storm): Check Check

A Viking Long Boat populated by a) guys in what looks like Teutonic Knight's armor rocking out on electric guitars b) a 80's Big Hair guys screaming "wanna see you sweat" c) a Rapper (KLF natch), d) what seem to be Vikings rowing the long boat in a violent thunderstorm c) what could be a chick or Steven Tyler rocking out: Check check and check!

And if you need further proof, there's the classic "3AM Eternal" and Justified and Ancient!

Good times

"Justified & Ancient" is a fucking amazing 90's time capsule song.

So bizarre you bring this up now.  We were at a mate's place only a few weeks back and had MAX (a "retro" music video channel) on in the background.  When Soul 2 Soul's "Back To Life" came on, we all started talking about the hip-hop/dance/etc scene from that era and how it just seemed so much more inventive and interesting than the current stuff.  First ame to pop up was KLF, which everyone agreed was just plain awesome.  For the following week, everyone's FB pages were being inundated with "LAST TRAIN TO TRANSCENTRAL, BITCH!".

All our younger friends didn't understand.  It made us feel old.  But also, fuck those punk kids.

Oh shit, KLF is retro now? The world seems to be screaming "YOU'RE OLD!" at an alarming rate.

Justified and Ancient still rules though.

One of my favourite things ever is the version of What Time Is Love which starts with some guy singing a really soulful version of Justified and Ancient and then just sort of explodes into the main version about a minute in. I think it's the version that kicks off the White Room.
