IRON LADY WILL CLEARLY LEAD TO GOLD STATUES

Meryl Streep-starring Thatcher biopic gets an effective little teaser.

Such a weird movie to have a teaser for.

The soundtrack, by the way, is from MOON, not SUNSHINE.

That silhouette shot makes it look like "Margaret Thatcher as Evita".

"The King's Speech" win was controversial?  I thought it was more a foregone conclusion for months.

I hope they've rewritten history like QT did. EXACTLY like QT did, in fact.

A foregone conclusion, but there was a huge, decided divide between the critical community and the academy itself. Awards commenters were grumpy and shitty about it for months.

I think you made a mistake. This is for The Human Centipede 2, surely?

INGLOURIOUS FALKLANDS!

I have to say, Streep has nailed the voice.

Not a huge fan of this teaser though.

Jesus, seeing Thatcher smile just made my entire fucking body tremble with disdain.

Nice contrast with the Captain America story earlier, this is going to be hated at home AND abroad!

Jesus, that "cute" little smile she does. I'm resigned to the fact that this won't be the portrait of a monster that it deserves to be.

Having said that, looks like Streep could provide some unintentional laughs. I kept waiting for Roger Allam to offer her a wire hanger.

It's interesting to see what tone they strike with this. There's no denying that Streep is going to nail the role, but is it revisionist, rose colored glasses, oh she was so strong willed! kind of pap, or will it deal with her, to not mince words, rather massive, massive tendency to act in a manner that can only be described as a real-life Bond villain.

ESPECIALLY interested to see if they try to spin her handling of the miner's strike as anything other than the act of a downright bastard.

Damn Streep nailed her stone cold.  I'm very interested to see how they handle this, I mean how can you potray this woman in a good light?

Yeah, made that creepy 50s throwback drive-in snack commercial on Vimeo from yesterday seem like a fluffy Disney short.

Good God -Thatcher with a cutesy smile and Meryl's voice attempt - I though this was a parody.

The film is a biopic, isn't it?

There will be some SERIOUS "historical revisionism " in this.

Oh I can imagine the taglines:...

Mother to her children. Mother to a nation.

When a country was on its knees, she brought them to their feet.

While nations where threatening to destroy, she rebuilt her own.      *VOMIT*

When people had the gall to form unions and stand up against horrible work conditions and poor pay, she gave the cops new riot control gear.

Yup. Inspiring!

Is there honestly anyone here that believes for one second this won't be a massive whitewashing of history?

Seriously, fuck this film and all who ride in her.

quite.  Bitch stole my milk!

I remember watching Brian Walden totally own her in an interview towards the end of her tenure and it was a glorious thing to behold.

Is anyone playing Rupert Murdoch in this film as the sinsiter King Maker that he is?

Wait if Thatcher was such a monster how did she win election after election?

As for the trailer, I was with until she did that dumb smile and showed us that she's not all Iron after all. Bleh.

She's not the first monstrous asshole voted into office more than once...

As Devin mentioned this is an SNL parody.

That point sounds catchy, but it's based on absolutely goddamn nothing.

Thatcher got back in because she made the country strong and won a war.  It was only when she tried to introduce the Poll Tax that the whole country turned against her, before that it was just the unions.

Lets not forget as well that we were recovering from the disaster that previous Labour government had left us in, and nobody took Kinnock seriously as Leadership material.

The biggest mistake we made during that period was not electing Paddy Ashdown. Best Prime Minstrer we never had.

I love Meryl, and this is bound to be statue material, but I gotta agree. The tone of the teaser is so wrong.

The comment was based on the lead actress' award history and general acclaim, the melodramatic cut of the trailer itself, and the fact that TWC is distributing it- a company led not only by guys known for their hardcore Oscar hunting, but by guys that just pushed a historical drama about a British figure with great success. You know, precedent and stuff.
