This may be the Fast & Furious of the Limp Bizkit records. It's not a Fast Five as in "an honestly good rock album", but like Fast & Furious it's a surprisingly well done return to roots. If one ever enjoyed those, that is.
It's not even like Gold Cobra just sounds kinda like the old stuff, it sounds exactly like the old stuff. No St. Anger. The whole of the record could be actual left-over material from Significant Other or Chocolate Starfish, it's stunning. There's nearly nothing of the ways they went on Results May Vary or Unquestionable Truth (only Why Try has TUQ influences), and there's surprisingly not one cheap try to ape the abortion that was Behind Blue Eyes.
Oh, there actually is a difference. While it was kinda embarrassing to see Durst jump around in 1999, it could have been overly ridiculous to do this again at 40. But actually there's a note of self reference in there. It's the first time they seem to wink at you, being clear, that all of it is just an act. That it actually is ridiculous, immature and not to be taken seriously. Goofing around. And of course, you really notice Borland is back, so are the little interludes. Compared to Korn's try to ape their origins with their unsorted noise collection Korn III: Remember Who You Are, this one clearly wins (only given Nu Metal never made you feel like you're orally being assraped like it's Tuesday afternoon).
