For all I know I'm the only person looking forward to this on these forums, but we're finally getting out first real bits of information (and a trailer) for Planetside 2 and I'm excited. To those of you who never played Planetside when it debuted on SOE, you missed out. That launch and the subsequent year (before some horrible expansion ideas) delivered something absolutely amazing. The only true MMOFPS that I've ever seen, a lot of players never even tried it because it was an FPS with a monthly fee. Those of us who did try it were quickly hooked though. Literally hundreds of players on either side of any particular battlefield in it's prime. Infantry, air and ground vehicles all being utilized in an effort to capture bases and the sight of a dozen players "hot dropping" out of a Galaxy Dropship onto the top of a base in a last second bid to recapture a control panel never got old.
The first bits of gameplay in the trailer only give hints at how many units will be battling at any one time. The information floating out of the SOE Fan Fest make it sound like the developers learned from the mistakes they made the first time around. They claim to have a 3 year plan for the game, at which point subsequent planning will be (somehow) done by weighing the will of the players. Just keeping a high population up to 3 years would be an amazing accomplishment, but I can't wait to see if they pull this off.
