The Secret In Their Eyes (2009)

Why did noone tell me how good this film is?! Juan Jose Campanella crafted an old-fashioned, consistently intelligent mystery that tackles the Argentinian justice system. The film, headlined by Ricardo Darin, whose name I've come to associate with pure class (he also starred in the underrated 'El Aura'), took the 2010 Best Foreign Language Film Oscar over 2 big-boys - The White Ribbon and Un Prophete - and I can honestly say I'm no longer surprised. It might not be far and away the best film of the three but it's tense, haunting and contains some remarkably audacious filmmaking.

Anyone else seen it?

It's been a while but I remember watching this movie some months back and being quite amazed. It's always a good sign when you forget that you're watching a subtitled movie and that's exactly what happened to me by the half way point. Beautifully acted, wonderfully written and directed (the shot where the camera makes its way into the soccer stadium is a particular high point), it's a modern classic. The final scenes just blew me away.
