5, Lazy Journalism

6. Thinner

7. Mallet

8. Balls

9. Here It Is

13. Mean Food

A welcome return to form, and a great (re) introduction to those who may have overlooked the 'Sticks. Thinner is already a special thing.

Goblin Shark is cool by the way, some of my favourite drumming from John, Steve alongside laying the dirty groove and sweet textures jabbing, scything, swinging and weaving from the gats and keys. Nice action high. Feels like an evasion or foot chase through city streets, up stairs, over rooftops.

No offense to your vocals, but I'm digging the odd, mostly instrumental vibe of this new material.

None taken but there are some great songs with vocals coming.

Thrill Me (3:06) MP3 FILE

Drums - John

Keys, Vocals, Guitar Solo - Nick

Guitar, Bass, Guitar Solo, Backing Vocals - Steve

Hello ambassador it's I

This lonely bastard

Misunderstood and flaccid

Just pull the damn thing out

You Can't Thrill Me

You Can't Thrill Me

You Can't Thrill Me

You Can't Thrill Me

The sound of a psionic passing

The body alive the eyes gone glassy

Hello ambassador it's I

This lonely bastard

Misunderstood and flaccid

Just pull the damn thing out

Mallet (3:20) MP3 FILE

Drums, Backing - Steve

Bass, Vocals - Nick

Guitars - John

I set my failure
I set my future
I brought my mallet
I bust my sutures

I ride the riptide from behind
Slide to the left to save my hide
This is the who and this is the why and the truth about I

This is the sound of the candle snuffing
This is the death of the cruise control

I live to disrupt your waypoint life
The mallet will swing on the line that's true

I stop the fire
I stop the structure
I brought my mallet
I bust my sutures

This is the sound of the candle snuffing
This is the death of the cruise control

I live to disrupt your waypoint life
The mallet will swing on the line that's true

I set my failure
I set my future
I brought my mallet
I bust my sutures

I ride the riptide from behind
Slide to the left to save my hide
This is the who and this is the why and the truth about I

This is the sound of the candle snuffing

I live to disrupt your waypoint life

Fuck yes, Mallet is right up my alley. I love when you guys take a tried and true rock'n'roll rhythmic idea and twist it up and inject it with yourselves and then punch it out hard like this. This one is sex.

Love the almost jaunty beats and all of the riffs rock individually, but it feels like it's missing connective tissue between the opening riff and the rest of the song. That bit aside...me likey.

Sustain (3:28) MP3 FILE

Drums - John

Guitars, Vocals - Nick

Bass, Backing - Steve

Fade In:

We made it
Insane where we lay

In my catatonia you are my utopia
Sustain my entropy

Piece of me, Be something

Piece of me

Signs on the black
"Follow black typhoon"

"On my mark, terraform"

In my catatonia you are my utopia
Sustain my entropy

Piece of me, Be something

Piece of me

Dissolve:

We made it
Building from instinct

In my catatonia you are my utopia
Sustain my entropy

Piece of me, Be something

Piece of me

Pink Ass (3:00) MP3 FILE

Drums - John

Keys, Vocals - Nick

Guitar, Backing - Steve

I'm the kind of man
Carries bags of chains

Never lose this weight

Swing this iron wheel

Stockpiled cold tornado

Never know my fate

Pink Ass!

Pink Ass!

Pink Ass!

Air comes down in halves
Misting birds that fly
Rush the glass to sand

Shattering razor blade

Shimmering anvil glaive
Falls right through my hands

Pink Ass!

Pink Ass!

Pink Ass!

I'm the kind of man
Rapscallion fireplug
Blows the sun away

The secret word
I've never heard
Just stand before my blade

Hands tied, eyes forward, my life

Stillborn and sweet fire

Jumper cables and brimstone

This is mine

My legacy in flight

And a much, MUCH better mix of Sustain uploaded to replace that file.

This song rocks. The breakdowns between stanzas are solid and the lyrics make for great conversation with loved ones. I'll be blasting Here It Is at our next blood-drive, guaranteed.

Don't know how popular the sentiment may be, but this is really reminiscent of The Doors (I like The Doors, so it's not the slap many associate that kind of comparison with). The calliope sounds, almost a carnival atmosphere to the themes. I'm really digging this. Mash that old school Moog sound with some modern tech, throw in the heavy blues inspired guitar and some almost hip-hop drums and you get quite a nice balance of crazy. Vocals are all over the place, but that's not a bad thing in this collection.

Holy balls, I missed everything in this thead as far back as May. I'm not the most up-to-date mofo around but that's weird even for me. You need to fix the link for Lazy Journalism though Nick, it goes to Thinner for some reason. Black magic probably.

On the plus side I'm going to rock the bahoogas out of these tunes at work tomorrow.

Fixed the Lazy Journalism link, Bucho.

Hah....take everything I said about the last tune and double it. The fun, freewheeling vibe of these last couple of tunes is just infectious.
