Greatest close-up, ever (color). Well done, Joshua.

My favorite bit of Rear Window trivia: screenwriter John Michael Hayes based the character of Lisa on his fashion-model wife. Write what you know. If you can. Lucky bastard.

Among my top 15 all-time favorite movies, that I've loved and obsessed over for close to twenty years of my life, and you just made me fall in love with that moment all over again.

Thank you.

The Bride of Frankenstein?

Whilst my personal favourite Hitchcock introduction is the extended opening scene of the Birds I love Kelly's entance into Rear Window. Great write up about a magical moment.

It is Dietrich at the back of the train in Shanghai Express:

Jeremy's pick is great, and it's a perfect dissection of a key scene in one of my favourite films. I love how much information the setting and background detail gives us in that sequence, and it adds to the nightmarish quality of the thing.

The Pale Man is up there with the Xenomorph in terms of effectively designed monsters. He's also the best example of Del Toro's misplaced eyes fetish.

Links are groovy.  And in fairness, this one was Renn's idea, I just snatched it up and ran with it.  But I'm glad you guys dig it.

And yeah, I love how there's no attempt at on-the-surface exposition about this guy - he's just there and everything you need to know about him is in the details, which makes the possibilities of who he is and what he represents in the story and in Ofelia essentially limitless.

I'm loving the hell out of this series!  Just played catch up and should be weighing in from here on out.  Not much for me to say about what has already been discussed, but I do have two bits of input:

- I'm both pleased and saddened that Marvel has regained the rights to Blade.  On one hand it will be fun to see what exactly they do with the character once they ever get around to reintroducing him to cinema.  On the other, I had always quietly hoped that someone (Norrington perhaps?) would put together another Blade flick with Snipes to redeem the wasted opportunity of the third.  Maybe even the oft-rumored post-apocalyptic take that we never got?  Oh well....

- As I mentioned on the main site, two of Christopher Walken's greatest roles are Tarantino-scripted ones (Pulp Fiction, True Romance).  I really hope Quentin works with him again someday.

And both of them single scene performances.  It seems possible that Tarantino understands, as the article intimates, that there is a Walken Threshold for maximum impact before he begins devouring the entire film, Galactus-style.

Fifteen years before that, Woody Allen had that same instinct. "I'm telling you this because as an artist I think you'll understand..."

I could write about this movie forever.

While I enjoy the sequels for what they are (and between the two, I prefer the third), The Matrix is certainly a near-perfect film.  I never get tired of watching it.

Yup. The internet, overreacting as usual to the sequels' innability to follow up, seems to downplay just how fucking excellent The Matrix is. And Renn is right. This is the exact scene where you went from saying "Cool!" every once in a while, to "Fuck Me!"

My only complaint about this article is the lack of Hugo Weaving.  He's fucking excellent in this...............and pretty much everything else he is in.  I feel like he has never really gotten his due for his contribution to this film, the franchise as a whole, and his career in general.  At least not outside "geek" circles.

BLUE MOOOOOON.............

It's too bad that Landis never actually got to finish his Werewolf Trilogy and that the sequel that actually was made shit the bed so horribly.

This movie totally broke that song for me. I get creeped the fuck out now, whenever I listen to it. Nice choice, too. A very effective introduction, since with just those few minutes of familiarity their fate bothered me more similar fates of characters I spent multiple movies with.

Fantastic lists guys, anytime you can read about Duck Soup, Rear Window and AAWiL you know you're onto a winner...

And Quint is a tremendous choice. His speech is a tremendous 'you're outmatched, the villian's gonna beat your ass, hero boy" moment, keeping the tension in the film high, coming as it does just after the death of the boy.

Holy shit, Chuck Heston as Quint? Man, I would have loved to have seen that version - though I do think Shaw was just perfect. I recently watched Jaws, first time in literally decades. Couldn't believe how good - nay, great - it is. A nearly perfect film, really.

To me, that scene was more of an entrance for Tarantino than the characters. Like some guy coming up from nowhere and going "Hey fuckers, check this shit out!" and everyone's jaws collectively hitting the floor.

Definitely.  I mentioned that a bit at the end, but part of me thinks QT might have been better served as the main entry.

Also - in regards to Renn's today, good stuff.  That hard-on bit was inspired.  Though, am I gonna get yelled at if I say I haven't seen this one yet?
