13 Ghosts dvd

I just watched some of the special features on the dvd. This is a fun disc. The section with the make up effects is cool. I also really liked the Ghost Files. I still think that the Girl with the black eyes and all the cuts is the creepiest. It's not the best horror film in the world, but it's fun. I'd say that it definitely has its moments.

WB should have done what they did with the House On Haunted Hill disc, which was make the interface a virtual representation of the film's house, itself.
It would have been fun going down into the basement and exploring the individual compartments and everything, but I still like the disc.
A nice bit of extras.

OK, call me petty, but the only reason I didn't buy this on Tuesday (I found a copy of 'Bride of Frankenstein' and snatched it up.) was that is was in a snap case. I'm not saying I won't buy it soon. I will. But that was the reason I put it down while I was browsing...

When are they gonna learn?

I have been modifying those snap case DVDs I do have (not many right now), like 'The Matrix', into keepsake cases.

I guess I'm just anal...

But, please tell me they did a good job with the ghost vignettes. That is one of the main reasons I want to buy this DVD eventually.

I thought that they did a good job with them. They are not real long, but it's cool to hear the back stories. The "making of" section is also cool, if you are into the make up end of things like I am. I thought that most of the ghost designs were really great and it was neat to see more on them. I personally think that it is some of KNB's best work.

Instead of forking over the cash for thir13en ghost I decided to head to the video store and pick up a copy of it on dvd for the night. After viewing the special features ( ghost stories, f/x makeup ) I decided I was sold and half way through watching the trailer decided to just go ahead and watch the movie. At the beginning I was kinda thinking, okay here comes a bad movie with bad acting, but somehow things turned around. I found the ghost in the movie incredibly PHAT! I can't find another word to describe them except that! They all were so awesome it blew me away. Although the story line was somewhat recycled it still kept me interested. The gore was plenty I really loved the lawyer getting sliced in half ( i could watch that 24hrs a day. ) The movie was overall a really good view, you know one of those movies you could watch on a friday or saturday night with a girl and a big tub of popcorn and walk away going wow maybe i'll get lucky tonight...okay maybe not that lucky but still you know what I mean...or do you?

On a personal note I loved the ghost with the box cage on her head I believe they called her the jackal??? Hammer was also neat. Anyway this movie was different, it delivered where some didn't. Can't really think of anything else to say except I skipped downloading Jason X on Kaza and went for Resident Evil...living in the 56k modem days It took me 6 hours ( 2days ) to downlaod just a 46minute clip of the movie. I found it also pretty good even though the color blured. I was really diggin the music to bad it went off at the part where the Licker?, broke out of the thing. I'm not sure if it was a good choice but I liked it from what I saw. Well I got to go, tomarrow I'm going to FrightVision, yippie skippy!...I guess...

I was extremely disappointed by this movie. The story was dull. The ghosts didn't really do anything except snarl and look pissed off. And that line Rah Digga had about being trapped in a house "with a buncha crazy white people!" was the most painful attempt at comic relief I've ever seen. What a waste. The makeup effects were incredible, but a decent story would have worked wonders for this piece o' garbage.

"The Jackal" is a guy. Why don't you people see that?
I think a lot of the film is pretty effective. I remember watching it in the theatres (right after K-PAX) and digging it.
The opening sequence grabbed me. When that tanker truck started spewing blood left and right and Rafkin said "Bait? We never needed bait before!", I just loved that moment.
It was a fun horror flick, and I like the "one set" motif Dark Castle adapted from Bill Castle. It's cozy.

The Jackal?! Juggernaut a.k.a. The Breaker was the friggin' MAN.

It's interesting to see how much work went into the making of the disc (now, some WB home video guy is reading this sayin, "Ha! It was NOTHING to make this!"). I mean, each ghost profile is pretty intricate.

Good stuff.

No question there.

I'm sticking with The Angry Princess, even though The Jackal was one mean ass mofo
If that's the butt nekkid one, I agree. She was really creepiest to me by far.

Actually, the hammer became my favorite after seeing his story. Poor guy. Keep in mind that I was very sympathetic to the Candyman, too.

13 Ghosts has a place of honor as one of my favorite films. I just wish more people had died.

I was a bit disappointed in the fact that I never jumped or felt "scared" at any point during the movie. The only scene where I felt a little tense was when Jackal attacked Kathy (Shannon Elizabeth's character). I thought the special effects were incredible for the ghosts, and the house itself was really amazing. But as far as the overall movie, I guess I was expecting more "chills" like House on Haunted Hill gave me. There were some creepy moments in that film...but this one to me almost seemed like a trumped up "X-Files" or "Freakylinks" episode.

I really enjoyed the back stories on the ghosts, and wish I had gotten to watch more of the "Making of" vignette (I had to get some sleep and it was due back at the DVD place the next day). All in all, I liked the overall DVD, but the movie itself was an "eh". Now that I kind of know what to expect out of the story, I'd probably enjoy it more if I saw it again.

Oh, and I was kind of disappointed as well that only the "bad guys" got killed in the movie (even though Lillard's character redeemed himself), and no one else did. And the lawyer's death was the coolest death I've seen in a while.

My critical self feels that this is one of the worst movies ever.

But the non-critical part agrees that this is simply a fun film.

What made me enjoy the film is basically the ghosts. They were all pretty cool and the Angry Princess is, by far, my all-time favorite. She's seductively creepy and beautiful at the same time. Maybe that's just me.

As much as I totally loved the backstory of the ghosts, I wish it was also fully explored in the film. I wished that more characterization was focused on the ghosts.

The film just portrayed the ghosts as "pets." I wish their human aspects were touched upon. Okay, so they are ghosts with their own set of rules. But, dammit, they were also humans! If they react and communicate like humans, then we should have explored more about their humanity. Ah, but I digress.

The film itself is "blah" but the DVD is a definite keeper. I love it. Especially the documentary and the Ghosts' backstory. Snap case is "bleh" but it's the quality DVD that counts to me!
