Rescue Me final season

The 7th and final season of Rescue Me premieres tomorrow. I've been a huge fan since the beginning and will be sad to see this go. I know there are a lot of people on this forum and imdb who say the show has been downhill since season 3 but I'd still take seasons 4, 5 and 6 over most of the shit they air on TV. I can't wait for the premiere tomorrow.

The first half was a little slow but it picked up towards the end. I was so happy to see Tommy spit out his drink. I was thinking the whole time not again... they've had him drink/quit drinking so many times on this show and I really thought last season was finally it and he would get sober. I enjoyed seeing the "ghosts". I was also really happy to see Tommy get some revenge on Teddy and Mick at the end of the episodes. It looks like from now until the final episode they focus on the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

Edit: Also "Black Sean" has turned into one of my favorite characters on the show. During season 4 I couldn't stand him but he's the only one on the crew that is "normal".

The hard thing for me to get past is the funny stuff just isn't funny anymore. And that just leaves overdone melodrama.

Yeah, that was a problem in later seasons when they stopped showing the guys interacting so much and goofing around with each other. That's what made the first few seasons so funny even with all the drama going on. They don't have that as much in later seasons.

I was looking at clips on youtube and found my absolute favorite scene from the series. Takes place in season 3.

Great scene. I remember it almost verbatim.

The show has just gone on too long. There's too many characters that have done too much awful shit to make the wacky humor scenes work. Maybe I'm a judgmental prick, but I don't hang around people who try to murder me. Shiela has a rape, and attempted murder and a kidnapping on her rap sheet. I can't take any scene she's in seriously at this point. Tommy and his wife having another kid after nearly murdering the last one is just foul.

I'm invested in seeing how the train wreck ends, but for me Rescue Me is neck-and-neck with Nip/Tuck for the record of a once-good show jumping the rails and careening through its audience. All it needs is a flash-forward to Tommy in bad old-man makeup with all his kids grown into pathetic losers to really cap things off!

More or less how I feel. I dropped off somewhere in season 3. I know the show is about wacky fucked up people but holy shit did they take things too far. It officially got too odd and some of the characters have become comic characters like what they did with JD in Scrubs. I hope I check this thread again during the season finale and find out they all die in a massive fire in the end.

That's the first time I've laughed at an entire episode of Rescue Me since season 3. I thought the comedy was hilarious tonight. Even if you just skip over the parts with Tommy and Sheila/Janet/Colleen/Katy, watch the scenes with the guys at the firehouse and everyone taking turns for Lou's physical. It was fucking hilarious.

Next weeks show looks good.

Another great scene I found...

If the show had stuck with being an angry comedy/drama, I'd have probably loved it. This last episode was pretty much what that show could've been. Quite funny, with a few poignant dramatic beats, and NO MELODRAMA (or violent felonies).

If they didn't love the actresses so much, the show would've benefited from jettisoning Sheila and Janet ages ago as well. They are likely the worst female characters I have ever seen on TV.

This is one of my favorite scenes from the history of the show (and hell I forgot Lou used to rock a 'stache).

Was there any doubt Sean was gonna accept Colleens proposal no matter what Tommy said? And that Tommy wasn't going to give his blessing.

If they cut this show down to 30 minutes and concentrated on what the show does best (regular and dark humor). It would be so much better. The stuff with the crew has always been the best stuff. And it's been getting more and more of a shrift in screen time. The crew taking Lou's physical for him was brilliant.

The past 4 episodes have been great. This is definitely the best season since season 3. They're tying everything together and have really gone back to what they did in the first 3 seasons with everyone in the crew and focusing more on the crew at the fire house. They've done a fantastic job with the comedy and drama this season.

Didn't even realize this was back on until seeing Leary on Conan the other night.

Loved the last 10-15 minutes with Tommy laying down the law and Sheila ending the threats. Although I would expect the reporter to pop back up in some fashion.

And why the decision to turn Franco into a total Douche?

If anyone asks me why I love this show so much all I have to point to is last nights episode "Vows". The first half of the show had me laughing my ass off and then the last 10 minutes had me on the edge of my seat with that really fucking crazy fire.

The series finale is next week. Going by what happened last night I'm not sure who survives. The thing that stood out to me was Tommy and Lou's conversation as it became clear that they weren't going to make it out, Tommy starts taking off his gear and says "What should we do, Lou?" and Lou says to Tommy "Go Tommy go. We'll be fine".

If any of you used to watch this show I really suggest you find last nights show online and watch it or one of the replays or on FX OnDemand and watch and then watch the series finale next week.

The promo alone almost has me in tears. I love this show.

I agree. I felt that the writers were going to pull off an Armageddon style ending with Tommy

The fuck did I just watch.  I'm sure somebody cocked it, just not who.

I really wonder what direction they'll go in. I don't think they're going to say the whole series was a dream. But I don't think everything is what it seems with the show. Tommy sees ghosts and has messed up dreams/visions all the time.

I know a lot of people gave up after seasons 4 (even though I really liked that season) and 6 but I think this season has been incredible. The comedy and the drama were right up there with the best episodes of the show. I watched this season wondering why they didn't do as great of a job with season 6 that they did this season.

This isn't really that off topic but at a recent press conference, Peter Tolan and Denis Leary announced that they're working on a half hour sitcom for Denis Leary to star in. I really hope they bring in Lenny Clarke and Adam Ferrara for what ever they do. Those 3 are hilarious together.

I've watched them all.  Tapered off during S4 though.  I just truly hope there's something more than hey it's the anniversary of 9/11 and we were dead the whole time gotcha bullshit.  If they all just died at the end of this episode it's the same thing as far as I'm concerned.  What's another week, eh?  No judgments 'til then.

Yeah, whatever missteps the show took in the past few years they really pulled it together this season.

Exactly, after taking a few years off they really have brought the A game for the last round up.

My prediction for the finale...the entire crew dies EXCEPT for Tommy who is just perminently disabled. Not in a Damien way, but to the point that he has to retire or take a desk job. Maybe he loses an arm or a leg or something.

I'm gonna go ahead and pretend that the episode ended after the eulogy at the beginning.

So fucking disappointed.

Hahaha, Lou's ashes, Hah-- serious 9/11 moment, Hahaha, Lou's ghost.  They're all laughing at us.  Oh, and what horrible fucking burn makeup they all had.  Needed more stinky ass girl.

Oh man, I loved it. I thought it was a brilliant way to go out. Everything I loved about Rescue Me was in that show last night with the drama and the comedy. I'm so happy they didn't do the whole "It was just a dream" storyline. I thought it was a fantastic finale to a great show.

Well, I was always a big fan of the mixture of comedy and drama, but I didn't feel that Lou's death was treated with enough dramatic weight.  I didn't feel like anyone was really upset about it.  That and it's unforgivable that we didn't at least see several of Tommy's ghosts....especially Jimmy.  Seeing Lou in the car at the end with Tommy was a nice way to end it, since for once he was seeing a dead person who wasn't tormenting him.  In that sense, there's closure I suppose.  But I was just so unsatisfied....

It was good but far from perfect. So glad they didn't go with the dream sequence or something stupid like Tommy killing himself.

I was expecting more ghosts showing up too. At least have Jimmy show up normal like Lou did instead of dirty and beat up. It felt rushed, like they were trying to cram too much stuff into it. Probably could have used one more episode before the finale. Maybe start a week earlier so they can still end it before 9/11.

I like that in the end they kept the crew together but I was expecting the twist of Tommy being the Lieutenant instead of Franco. The ending scene with Tommy and Lou was indeed pretty great and a nice capper. Loved the playground scene. And when Lou's ashes blew up in the car with the "Foom" sound I was rolling.

So glad I baile don this during season 3.

When the ashes ended up all over them and the truck at first I was like I don't know if they can make this funny but by the time that Garrity pulled his pants down at the end of the scene I was laughing my ass off. I thought it fit in Rescue Me. Lou would have been laughing his ass off as well. That's what I love about this show, it's the only show that you can be almost in tears in one scene and laughing out loud the next. I thought they had a great mix of comedy and drama over Lou. Even after that scene I was laughing at Teddy's porn star comment and some of Lou's letter and then almost in tears by the end of the letter and then laughing my ass off again when Tommy and Mick spread the ashes and Mick knew right away those weren't really Lou's ashes.

I think Tommy not seeing any of the other ghosts was a sign that he had finally moved on. He didn't drink at all this season and finally grew up a little bit. Of course he's going to see Lou since that just happened. But I think when he saw Jimmy and his father and brother and Connor he was drinking or it was right after their deaths.

I thought it was a fine finale and a very good season. Killing Tommy off would've been the easy way out. Making him a leiutenant would've been ridiculous - with his history, his application would've been returned with residue from being used as toilet paper. Tommy's family abruptly  reversing their opinion on his retirement was one last amusing instance of the writers showing their belief in total female insanity. Other than that, I thought the balance of humor and drama was spot on, with a surprisingly upbeat ending.

It can't make up for the disastrous last few seasons, but it's nice to at least have some fond memories of a good show to end on. I just wish they'd had the good taste and sense to have done this season three years ago.

I do agree with what Mikey said, I'll miss them busting each others balls the most. For as shitty as this show got, the comedy never suffered.
