Jonah Hill lost ALOT of weight

Now he needs to put some back on. Or grown some hair. His head looks miniscule.

Seriously, I give him props. It takes persistence and dedication to drop that much weight. But enough is enough.

That is indeed amazing.  I hope he accomplished it by healthy, long-term methods.  If you just showed me the AFTER photo, I wouldn't have any idea who he was.

Has he signed up for a Penn and Teller movie?

He looks unhealthy in both photos. Weird, huh?

He looks like present day Tom Sizemore.

It may just be the shitty runway photo, or what looks to be an ill-fitting suit, but I thought the same thing as you.

Funny how I never thought he had big ears before...

Good on him, though!  I'd read that he wanted to drop some weight, but that he was afraid it would effect his career.  I'm kinda glad he chose to do what he wanted to.

Yeah TMZ caught him jogging and he said "I don't want to be the Artie Lange of the Apatow group". That was lquite a while ago, glad he is thin now.

It probably WILL affect his career.  But yeah, who the fuck cares when your life is at stake. I remember Wayne Knight (Newman) did the same thing.

Man I wish I had a personal trainer to kick me all day and a high-paid nutrionist to deliver perfect meals. And Jonah's free time to be able to do workouts 8 hours a day. Do you guys think he did this on a steady, healthy routine or is it a hardcore crash program that'll only last until after Jump Street wraps?

I don't even know anymore. Seems to be the new Hollywood trend of fat funny guys turning into skinny guys; John Goodman, Drew Carey, Seth Rogen...

Can you blame them? I seriously doubt they want to follow the path set by John Candy and Chris Farley.

Being that overweight in your younger years is one thing, but beyond that...

It's defiantly natural, if you Google Jonah Hill weight loss you can see he is loosing weight steadily from 2006 onwards.  There is a set of pictures that date from 2006 to 2008 and then to now that show the stages pretty clearly,

With some of the comments about his career it's funny you mention Farley.  I remember reading something (maybe the SNL book?) where Farley was almost in a love/hate relationship with his weight. That it caused him to be depressed but he also felt that he was defined by it and it was the thing that made his comedy work.  No offense to Hill but you got to wonder how much of this weight loss will affect the roles he gets.  Good for him on getting healthy as that should be his priority but it's kind of fucked to think that a decision like that could hypothetically fuck up his working life.

I' wouldn't be surprised if Candy had a similar outlook.

The thing about Hill is that he isn't as boxed in career-wise as Farley was. Farley was defined solely as being the fat guy who does outrageous funny stuff. His movie roles reflected that. Hill, while hefty, isn't funny because of his size. He rarely if ever stoops to Kevin James shtick. His comedy comes from his personality and razor wit, not his ungainly physique. Has he ever been marketed as a plus-size star?

Considering that he's already branching into more serious fare with Cyrus and Moneyball, I have no doubt his career will be fine. I don't think he'll ever be a bankable comedy superstar - Was that ever really an option? - but rather a dependable supporting/character actor with killer comic timing.

*His slimming out does, however, kill my weird fan-wanking dream of one day seeing him play the Penguin in a Batman film. After Cyrus, I was convinced he could knock it out of the park.

He's not funny anymore.

But he looked funny. I remember seeing a preview for Night at the Museum 2 and the audience started laughing the moment he appeared. He was never attractive but his weight added some charm to him. He might've never done the "fat guy shtick" but his image on screen was still the funny fat guy.

Wow, I think he looks great.  Good for him!

He had the underdog persona thing going on. He may just have the small weasely/whiny thing going on now if he's not careful.

But at least he didn't go buff. Funny guys going buff is sure death.

And yeah, jogging will do that and it doesn't take 8 hours a day.

Hill, who said he was unsure of how much weight he has lost, revealed that he'd recently begun working out and changing his eating habits because he "thought it was important to be healthier."

"It's not fun," he said of his efforts. "I wouldn't say it's the most fun endeavor I've ever took on in my life -- but it's important. And I'm enjoying it. If I eat something unhealthy now, I kind of feel a little weird and my body hurts."

Oh god, he really does come across looking like Tom Sizemore!

Anyway, good for him.  It sounds like lost the weight the right way.

I just think he needs to grow his hair out and have a suit that fits, other than that he looks great.

As a current fat dude it's good to see what can be accomplished.

All it really takes is willpower, my friend. You don't need a Hollywood nutritionist and trainer -- just the motivation.

I went from 230 to 155 in about a year by dropping soda, sweets and fast food cold turkey, and never looked back. Then I bought an mp3 player, and went out and walked for the duration of one album, every single morning.

It seriously happened so quickly that one day someone said to me "You're really skinny now. How did you do that?" And I hadn't even paid attention because I was so into the goals I was setting. I looked in the mirror, and was completely taken aback. Then I went out and bought size small shirts and 32 waist pants for the first time in my life.

That saying that if you take care of your body, it'll take care of you is totally true. Give it the right fuel, and use that fuel the right way, and it doesn't have to be an uphill struggle. In fact, once you get into a groove, you'll feel fantastic, and skipping a day of exercise or eating junk food will actually make you feel weird. Give it a go, dude -- you can totally do it!

This is what I have been saying to people for a while now.  Last year I went from 330 to 180 pretty much doing the same thing you did.  I just cut the shit out and started walking a few days a week.  I couldn't be happier for Jonah after reading his interview in Rolling Stone last summer it really came off like he saw himself as more of a behind the scenes kind of guy than as an actor so I'm sure he's not too worried about future roles.  I just like seeing people get their shit together.

There's nothing funny about a physically fit man.

that's where you're wrong my friend:

1. Ryan Reynolds

2. Terry Crews

3. uhhh... Joe Piscopo during that phase of his in the 80s?

Jim Carrey

Steve Carell

Conan O'Brian

Dave Chappelle

Eddie Murphy (back in the day)

I just realized how absurd it is to list people. Pretty much all comedians are not 300 pound fatties. And as mentioned above, Hill's stchick has always been verbal, not physical. He'll do fine.

There was a time when he was? I liked him okay in Superbad, but he always plays unlikable obnoxiously loud assholes (Save for Cyrus, which showed some much needed growth as an actor)

Maybe I should have used the entire line, but this is just a quote (or very closely paraphrase) of a line Jonah Hill uses in Funny People that he tells Seth Rogen. It wasn't that good of a joke as retold by me, but someone had to say it.

I don't know if this is true, but a friend of mine told me that Will Ferrell used to be pretty 'fit' looking, but let himself go a little to remove that 'unfunny fit man stigma'.

But then, my friend is prone to inaccuracies and exaggerations...

Joe Piscopo is pretty much the poster boy for Buff = Not Funny. And it is a Buff thing, more than a lean/fit thing. Sandler was always lean/fit. You have to find your Underdog Type to be a comedian/comedic actor. It's hard to be an underdog when you're Buff. Ryan Reynolds plays the Buff Guy who's Over-Confident and puts his foot in his mouth type.

Terry Crews is the hyper-frustrated type mostly. Which works really well with his physique. He's like a guy who SHOULD have it all together, but doesn't and he doesn't know why.

Piscopo was just kind of a buff bore.

Good for him!

Someone needs to tell that camerman to pull back a bit.

I recall hearing that on one of those SNL 25 or 30 year retrospectives on NBC. In particular, it was Ferrell's idea to wear a shirt a size too small so his stomach hang out in the Cow Bell sketch.

And his stomach hanging out is definitely one of the highlights. Always makes me laugh.

I remember when Ferrell was pretty fit looking, stopped watching SNL every week, then went back to see it again and was perplexed at how much weight he'd gained. Then he pared it down to just being a bit stocky, and that was great. Especially in that one bit where he's trying to be patriotic while wearing an American Flag thong and low cut shirt. Seann William Scott was the host on that one. Pretty hilarious.

I wasn't being... entirely serious when I mentioned Piscopo. He was always a pretty bad comedian.

I think Ryan Reynolds would be even more funny if he was a fat guy though. A fat guy who jumps at every opportunity to sing All-4-One's "I Swear".

Holy crap! Would not have recognized him. He does still look kind of unhealthy but maybe he's just one of those fishy pale kind of people.

He looks healthier I guess but man, it's aged him like a motherfucker!
