Damages Season 4 (F*** Yeah!)

Is there a thread for this yet?   I didn't see one.   Anyway, solid first episode if a bit slow.   For the most part the transition to DirecTV hasn't changed the show much except for one thing: the F Bomb.   And boy do the writers like that word.   Anyway, I thought people might like to talk about it so have at it.

No DirecTV for me, so I won't be watching until it hits DVD. But a question: Are they still utilizing the time-shift/flash-forward structure?

They are.   Also people are going to love Dylan Baker in this.

Cool, thanks. I'm a little torn up I can't watch this week-to-week right now. Season three was fantastic.

Didn't the s4 preview already spoil who is under the hood?

Anyway, good stuff. Dylan Baker is incredible

I don't think it does. The hooded figure appears to the shell-shocked dude, Chris Sanchez, but it could be a total red-herring which the show has done before, so who knows.

Yes, Dylan Baker as the "apparent" villian in this, is going to be great.  I am a little incredulous about the writers using Haliburton as premise for this season. Nevertheless, Glenn Close and Rose Byrne are both awesome, so that's more than enough to get me to tune in each week.

So, I don't how many are watching, but this season has been terrific. John Goodman and Dylan Baker are welcome additions, as are the occasional boob and F-bomb.

The guy playing Sanchez has been great as well. His story cannot end well, I just hope he gets to stick it to the man before the end. I like to think the actor playing him is the more talented son of Steve Guttenberg. Or clone.

They even managed to make Patty's son interesting!

I think the fact that this show is on DirecTV has something to do with the scant comments on here.   I'm loving this season so far and count me as surprised the see boobs on this show.   Is the Audience Channel a premium cable channel like HBO or Showtime or are there commercials here?   This show is getting away with ALOT if it's the latter.   Also, how awesome was the manipulation that went on in the 2nd episode?   I loved that.   My theory is the black guy is going to turn and be the star witness or is that too obvious?

Wish more people were making comments cause this show is great. Real good stuff, lots of twists and turns and WTF moments. The cast is top notch and if you/re a fan of Dylan Baker he's probably the best character on the show with what appears to be a pretty fucked up past. I'm even enjoying Patty's relationship with her granddaughter and really interested see what became of her son.

People will discover this season as time goes on and wonder, "How the fuck did I miss something this good?!?" I have no doubt about that.

The twists during the bombing storyline were well done. I actually thought he was going to try to bomb a midtown bus for a minute there. It was within the realm of possibility for Baker's character. The last bit was telegraphed, but still set things up solidly for a, "How the hell are they going to win now?" conclusion.

I had to catch a later airing, so got stuck with the "pop-up video" version. At least it wasn't too obnoxious or spoilery. Just little notes like the naked blonde worked for the French version of the CIA, and they gave Baker's character the flu because half the crew had caught a nasty bug at the time, and that we'll find out who the nude girl Baker has been drawing is later in the season (not the naked blonde, apparently). Only the last pop-up over the final scene, "It doesn't look like he'll be making his deposition" really made me cringe.

I presume Patty's granddaughter will need marrow or something from her son, to give the search for him more priority.

And I still have no idea who's getting beheaded. Sanchez seems waaay too obvious.

Yea, it's been one of the best shows on all of television.  This season has been flat out incredible.

It's easily the greatest cast on television at the moment.  John Goodman, Dylan Baker, and Glenn Close?  What an incredible ensemble.  And Dylan Baker has been a favorite actor of mine for a long time, so this has really been a treat for me.  He is just knocking it out the park.

Its funny how having an extra ten minutes, profanity, and boobs can really make a huge difference, not to say that's the reason this season has been so awesome, but this subtle difference really makes a huge difference.  The part where Ellen tells her boss, he's "chickenshit" rather than just calling him a coward, was so much more powerful and surprising.

Other than Breaking Bad, I don't think there is a better show on at the moment.  I'm so glad DirectTV picked this up, kudos to them.

And no, that last twist was not that surprising.  It was pretty obvious, Dylan Baker was just setting somebody up to be framed.  Still, it was cool.

The guy getting beheaded appears to be Sanchez but I agree, its waaaaay to obvious.

Interesting you mention bone-marrow, I hadn't even thought about that. That actually makes perfect sense.  And how did Patty's son go from being homeless to being driven around in a limo?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the guy in the chair is Dylan Baker's character and he's going to flip sometime in the season.   The torturer might be Sanchez or it could even be AC.   With this show, you just never know.   In regards to the cast on this show, it's been pretty damned stellar from day 1.   I don't know what this show's greatest coup has been.   Making Ted Danson a slimy asshole , making Marcia Gay Harden sexy, or making Martin Short a convincing dramatic actor.

In regards to this season, I'm really appreciating how High Star resorts to non violent solutions first.   The way they got Sanchez over to Afghanistan and how they framed the Afghani was just brilliant.

I think Sanchez is somehow going to make it back to the states. Ellen finds someone's body in the flashfowards and if it Sanchez its got be somewhere here in the U.S., don't think Ellen flew all the way to Afghanistan.

John Goodman is quickly becoming one of the biggest assholes I've seen on tv in quite sometime.

Yeah, making me hate John Goodman is quite a feat.

The writers did an incredible job taking John Goodman from a big, loveable teddy bear to a right-wing, psychotic, sociopath, with the ability to push buttons at the highest level at of the US govt.

Speaking of which, I did think they went a little overboard giving Goodman the power to deploy a group of soliders to Iraq by making a simple phone call. Not quite sure I bought that one.

Between him and his CIA buddy (and his DoD buddy), it seemed plausible to me that he could get one unit's orders swapped with another's.

I was thinking Goodman would be the one beheaded, but the man's arm they showed looked too slender for him. Dylan Baker's my pick - he's got plenty of muslim enemies, and he's basically the only white guy left!

As far as we know, Ellen hasn't confirmed who it is except via the medal, right?

Yes, the medal she finds is a big clue; which we know belongs to Chris. Yet, it could be a complete red-herring, the writers have done that in past seasons so who the hell knows. If it is Dylan Baker, he's totally getting what he deserves. There's no telling how many people he's killed and families destroyed.

So Patty's grandaughter doesn't have cancer, but now Michael wants custody could he possibly beat Patty? I doubt it.

Patty's kid is insane. He'd have a better shot at running her over again than successfully suing her.

I kept wondering why they were being so cagey about who Baker's captive was. I guess I had a mental block that they would kidnap... well, a kid. My prediction of Baker being the beheaded man is looking better!

I presume we're going to get one hell of a showdown scene between Goodman and Baker before the season ends.

I can't wait for the showdown between Paty and Goodman. Here's hoping that takes place even if it is in the form of a deposition.

The deposition was in the preview for next week... so wish granted!

Wow, that was a terrific season. I don't think it's hyperbole to say that this season of Damages was on par with the very best shows on TV.

Agreed.   Easily up there with season 1.   I do think it's funny that alot of the scenes in the teaser for this season NEVER HAPPENED.    For instance, where was the Sanchez/Parsons hook up and wasn't Erikson tied up as well?   Way to throw viewers off.

The hook-up was in Ellen's dream. The other scene might have just been clever editing.

Yeah I remember seeing the start of it but it cut off.   Maybe it's in the enhanced version on Fridays?   Anyway, fantastic season although I really wanted John Goodman's character to get a bit more of a comeupance than what was shown on screen.    I did love Erikson's "Holy Shit" moment when he realized that Sanchez got away.   He looked scared shitless so I guess that was something.   As for Boorman?   No complaints at all.   He got a proper send off and how about that headshot from the trunk while the tarp was covering him?   Mad skills.   I'll miss that bastard.

If I had one complaint, it would be that the producers have gone to the well one too many times with Patty and Ellen breaking up at the body of water?    Can we have a season ender where they're still pals and still work together?

Absolutely loved this season. I'm not much of a dramatic tv watcher but Damages is certainly a show that I look forward too and I'm glad some feel its one of the best things on right now.

So all the speculation about who was beheaded was a giant misdirect and it was Gerry that was the corpse Ellen sees. I honestly thought it was going to be the kid that was killed as a way for Erickson to get back at Borman knowing he was going down. And I really didn't think Sanchez was going to make it out alive guess now he can hook with Ellen for real.

So I think we'll be treated to another season of Damages next summer and I can't wait to see what stellar cast they put together this time.

Dynamotv, I agree about the the proverbial final scene between Ellen and Patty breaking up lakeside then eventually getting back together. Don't think it will happen again simply because Patty's son is calling Ellen as his sole witness against his mom and Ellen will have to some clean about the dirt she's got on Patty.
