Aaw, Fuck You Summer: The Chewer Heat Wave Thread

So it's hot out. And it's not a dry heat, at least not up in here. Bitch about it here if you so choose!

I've heard Nelly's Hot in Here like 5 times this week. Someone on radio thinks they are a genius.

Came home from work yesterday to find my living room's window AC unit had died at some point. Never was more happy to have sprung for the bedroom unit last spring, which was still roaring happily along and kept the apartment kind of livable, and sleep possible. But the front half of my place was a roast this morning. Left a maintenance ticket on the way out, and man I hope the crew lives up to their crackerjack record so far. Oddly not eager to go home after work on a Friday.

Well, there's movies to see.

Hit 101 in Syracuse. We had 174 inches of snow this winter and hit 101 this summer. It's 93 degrees today and feels refreshing and springlike.

It's been consistently 98 or higher here in Austin since late April. We've gotten a total of maybe five hours of rain in that whole time. In fact, I'm fairly sure it's been at least a year since we had some sort of nice, heavy, day long soaking rain.

Needless to say, the pools are at capacity, and going outside for anything sounds like a miserable idea.

It's been 100+ here for many days and I couldn't be happier. It even passed 104 for a couple of days. I stopped even bothering with what the temperature is if you account for humidity after it passed 110. I love heat.

Even though Asheville is in the mountains, we're still hitting temps of 93+ with a gazillion percent humidity. Fuck this I need my AC.

Raleigh's been hitting 100 every single day.  I've been inside as much as possible.

I work in a factory.  We make mufflers for cars.  I'm old.  48.  It's hot as holy fuck in the plant.  I run a spot welder.  Last Monday they moved me to a new line and I was trying to learn a new job.  The line was loading up on me.  Pissing me off.  But with a heat index *outside* of 108 and a bit warmer in the plant, I fell out with heat stroke.

This summer sucks.

Some time last Thursday evening I realized that the house felt stuffy.  Then I realized that the central air hadn't turned off in a while. Then I went out and got a hot fudge sundae for dinner because my central air decided to crap out on the second hottest day of year and I was not turning my stove on for anything.  The next day, as most of you who live in the Boston area know, was the hottest day of the year and my thermostat read 91 degrees in the kitchen (it was hotter in my bedroom).  It's cool and rainy right now and I'm just happy that I can actually sleep with some covers on tonight.  I have never been so aware of how spoiled I am by air conditioning.

Luckily, I didn't have to be anywhere other than my apartment Thursday through Sunday.  And I have a functioning, powerful air-conditioner.  So, I turned off all the lights and just about everything else but my laptop and hid.  Manhattan absorbs heat like a brick pizza oven.  Brutal.  On Thursday night, I assumed most folks would be home, passed out in their sticky underwear.  So, I walked crosstown to a not very mass-transit friendly multiplex to see a midnight show of Captain America, with the idea that I could avoid most of the texting/talking crowds.  Smart move.  Plenty of excited fans there, but none of them sitting near me or in any of the rows in front of me.  But walking to and from there turned the inside of my shirt into a Progresso Soup factory.  Bleech.

So, compared to a lot of you, I feel damn lucky.  The only downside was that I got stir-crazy like you wouldn't believe.  I saw no friends, nobody, like I was the Gollum of Air-Conditioning.  Friedrich is My Precioussss.

Not looking forward to my electric bill.

Midnight, 86 degrees and 82% humidity here, according to Yahoo! Weather.  Luckily, I have the noseeums and tiger mosquitoes to keep me company.

It's been rainy and cool here in BC for the most part. A lot of people are bitching about the lack of beach time but I'm just happy to not live in a pool of sweat!
