BBC News is reporting it too: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14262237

She joins the 27 club.

I think we all knew  this would not have a happy ending.

It's a huge waste....she could have been one of the great vocalists of our time.

I honestly can't summon up any snark or cynicism. Just seemed obvious this was coming.

And let the 'she was a druggie so f--- her' round of criticism begin. This sucks because she was a great talent.

We all knew it was coming but she was only 27

I had no idea she was 27 -- the same age as me. I always assumed she was much older.

I may toss Back to Black in; it's a fantastic album, and now a sad display of what could have been.

No more like "She was a druggie who stated in interviews she intended to die young and did". Really a waste. I reserve my "FUCK YOUs" to the people who enabled her over the years.

wait a minute... she was alive (as in, a few days ago)?  Some reason i thought she had already kicked it.  Sad to see she couldn't get the help she needed.

Her Obituary:  They tried to make her go to rehab.  She said no, no, no.  So she died.  The end.

Radio 2 did a very classy tribute to her and played a good chunck of the in session stuff she did for them. Some great songs there and a reminder of why this is a colossal waste more than anything else.

She received 5 Grammys for that album. Kind of encourages one, dunnit?

She was a fantastic talent and its very sad her life ended like this.

And those people would be pretty much everyone around save for her parents, who loudly sounded the alarm against her habit for years.  I felt bad reading some of her mother's statement, which said that Amy's death was only a matter of time.  She'd even asked Amy where she wanted to be buried.  That has to be awful as a parent, having to emotionally detach from your child in order ot prep for her impending death.  I know addiction is a disease and whatnot, but it really fucking pisses me off for her family and for all families who are thrown into total chaos because of this shit.

From reading it seemed her parents did try to help.  But there are just some people beyond help or don't want it.  I don't see this as a LiLo situation where her parents are enabling her.

She chose drugs over everything.  There are countless people like that, just not with her voice.

Yeah but she was surrounded by "friends" who were all too willing to keep her living the "life" and benefiting from her fame too.

Amy's parents were very vocal about getting her help. Unfortunately, she shut them out of her life.

Here's a really great reflection by Russel Brand, of all people: http://www.russellbrand.tv/2011/07/for-amy/

And, my favorite Winehouse song just because...

God that Blog post by Russell Brand is the most self-involved, shallow and arrogant piece of self-promotion barely disguised as a eulogy I've ever read. I now know everything I need to about this twit.

The middle part is narcissistic, but I think he has some good insight on addiction and how it affects lives - not just the addicts but people around them.

Yeah, I'd be only less surprised if it were Lohan.

It's not. The tone is entirely and deeply self-deprecating, insightful, and sympathetic.

Yeah, I'm baffled that anyone could have a negative reaction to that blog. Brand's an astonishingly intellligent man.

And as someone who has been through it himself, he knows what he is talking about.

There's no doubt that Brand can be a (self-confessed) self-involved man, but that article is not shallow, nor does it display arrogance. It displays both a deep understanding of addiction and a humility regarding Winehouse's talent.

The notion that Brand would want or need to use her death for self-promotion is absurd.

I'm sure Winehouse smells better now than she did during the last five years of her life.

Can someone ban this unfunny semen-obsessed lunatic?

The whole focus of his blog post is him! "I didn't know who this Amy person was until she attended one of my shows and told me how great I was and me me me ME!" It's 9/10s telling us how cool and awesome he is and 1/10 and (admittedly) fine praising and appraisal of Amy Winehouse.

Meh...as I read it, he's not eulogizing her, he's just talking about his first hand experiences with her from obscurity to stardom. The fact that he mentions his own show seems less like a declaration of celebrity than it is just him setting up a timeline from his own experiences with Winehouse. This blog post was written, what, the day after Winehouse's death? If he had written this as an editorial for a quarterly publication or if it was written by some celebrity who didn't actually know her, then the complaints of narcissism would have validlty. As it is, this is just a guy talking about a friend/acquaintence who's rise to fame & struggles with addiction mirrored his own. Why wouldn't he talk about himself?

Let's give the guy a break & move on, already.

See I made one post that got several responses, so I made a 2nd post to clarify. I don't propose that Brand is making some kind of Advert campaign out of this sad event. I'm saying he's such a narcissist that he's not capable of writing an entire blogpost about Amy Winehouse and her music without reference to himself. Sheesh who new their were Brand Fanboys lurking...

It's not a big fanboy deal-- You've completely misread the point of the post, the entire perspective of regret for that narcissism.
