Johnny Blaze is the only one that can save Danny...Ketch?
The first movie was pretty horrible, as Wes Bentley was maybe the worst villain I've ever seen in a major motion picture. The first thing this new movie needs to define is exactly the scope of Ghost Rider's powers. Is he invincible, or does he need stitches after being stabbed in the shoulder? Exactly what is happening when he swirls that chain around that ends any fight no matter how the odds are stacked against him? Nic Cage brought well-needed energy, but came across as hokey at times.
The pennance stare was just about the only well-realized aspect of that movie.
I don't get it, how can Marvel get any old piece of crap made and with sequels but DC can't get a Flash or Wonder Woman movie off the ground?

What's sad is that they really don't have much of anything in development beyond Nolan projects (TDKR, Man of Steel). Flash has been in the scripting stage for years. Green Lantern was rushed and just chucked out into theaters. Beyond Hawkman supposedly being in the works, what the hell are they doing? They are sitting on a supposedly good Green Arrow script (Green Arrow: Escape From Supermax) that they haven't done jack shit with. Nicholas Winding Refn is running around Hollywood proclaiming in practically every other interview he does that he would love a shot at Wonder Woman..............................and yet NOTHING is being done with the character beyond the apparently godawful TV pilot that was made this year.
If I were DC, I'd be pissed. Marvel Studios hit the ground running in 2008 and after four years will not only have put out five solo films (only one of which is a sequel)............but a big superhero team-up movie! That's six films in five years and in another five years time they will likely have more than doubled that amount. Considering the fact that Warner Brothers owns the rights to the ENTIRE DC catalogue, it's pretty sad that they were beaten to the punch on this. I think they've been content to let the Potter franchise and Nolan's Batman trilogy keep them going.................and only now that BOTH will be finished within a years time are they getting worried. Green Lantern was half-assed and they thought they could skate by with it. They were wrong. Superman being postponed to Summer 2013 smacks of them realizing that they can't get by with rushing these things out due to the competition. I honestly won't be surprised if we do get a Green Lantern 2, but you can guarantee it will be retooled and probably focus on a different Lantern (Kyle Rayner or John Stewart, likely). The Flash will likely get an extra push and I won't be surprised if they start assigning writers to other DC properties.
They need to take their time with each property and not worry about catching up with Marvel, which is virtually impossible for them to do at this point. As it stands, they've been eating Marvel's dust and there is no reason for that to be the case. I'm not saying that all of Marvel's films are perfect (particularly IM2 and Thor), but they still strike a cord with the public.................which is something that Green Lantern failed to do. I just hope they realize that it has nothing to do with the nature of the character (sci-fi, cosmic, etc.) and everything to do with the execution.
Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Green Arrow, Lobo, Hawkman, Swamp Thing, Martian Manhunter, etc. There is no reason that these characters can't be brought to the silver screen in quality, moneymaking films.

The first GHOST RIDER was almost BATTLEFIELD EARTH bad. I haven't revisted it - and wouldn't, without alcohol and some friends to mock it - but Cage was mesmerizing in it. He appeared to be in an entirely different film from the rest of the cast, and it almost helped assuage the pain of the shitty script and direction to watch him meander through each scene with complete disregard for tone and, well, sanity. I'm kinda hoping he does the same thing for the sequel.

The first Ghost rider is one of the few flicks I have never actually finished. The only thing that appeals about this sequal is Idris Elba on a motocycle.

DC should get that SUPERMAX movie made, that sounds rather cool and not too expensive...
The first GR film is amoung the worst mainstream films of the last decade...

I believe the plan at WB was to get Justice League out by 2013 (now likely 2014). I assume they would use that to relaunch their characters, despite also spotlighting a non-Bale Batman and non-Cavill Superman. Not the brightest plan, but their failures have to do with their collaborators. Greg Berlanti was the chief architect of Green Lantern and the planned Flash movie, and everyone in the industry knows he kinda sucks. Martin Campbell isn't nearly the type of craftsman that Marvel has hired, whereas Zack Snyder, on the other end of the spectrum, probably brings TOO much personality (which I wouldn't say was a problem, except that Snyder's films are garbage).
The ideal guy the WB should have gone to was Gil Kenan, who was involved with Green Lantern early on. Young, has vision and talent, cheap, and is willing to play ball. Somehow, once City Of Ember tanked, the WB considered him toxic. Oops.

On the subject of "Danny"...
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
in the script I read, the kid's name isn't revealed until the end, but yes, it is Danny Ketch. And he's used mostly as a conduit for some GR powers/special effects in the final scene, but I don't necessarily think they're going with "Kiddie Ghost Rider" nor are they assuming Ketch will ride alongside Blaze. Does give them a reboot option, though.

They're completely ignoring the first one, Elba's in it and the Crank guys were made for stuff like this.
I'm looking forward to it.

Really? If that's true it's a good thing. At the end of the last one the devil told Johnny that he would take the power away and he could go back to having a normal life. Johnny says that he is going to keep the power and use it to defeat him..........So he could be rid of this horrible, miserable curse but turns it down because he wants to kill the devil....................THE DEVIL. Im pretty sure you can't do that because he is ya know the devil. Also it seems odd that the devil can't just take the powers away. I would have a hard time watching the second one if every minute I was thinking "well he could just give the powers back".

Don't forget that Johnny also, in this universe, is a famous celebrity and in love with Eva Mendes. I can't help thinking that he could do more good just donating a large portion of his paychecks to charity then riding around and Penance-Staring bad guys one at a time.

Weirdly enough, the Devil is the main antagonist in this one, but instead of Peter Fonda, it's Ciaran Hinds. And, randomly, he is referred to as "Roarke." No, I don't get it either.

Thereby confirming Mr Roarke of Fantasy Island was indeed Lucifer in disguise*, using people's darkest desires to tempt them into eternally falling.
*I'm pretending the episodes featuring Roddy McDowell as the Horned One never happened.

If Man of Steel is a hit, the best thing WB could do at this point to get their other characters going is follow it up with a Cavill-lead Justice League film.
