TOWER HEIST TRAILER IS OFFICIALLY A TRAILER

Isn't Brett Ratner directing Beverly Hills Cop IV.

The trailer isn't very funny but it's actually nice to see Eddie Murphy in a comedy ensemble. When was the last time? Bowfinger?

That was a weird trailer because it seems like all the choice moments lingered way longer than they needed to be.

But I ain't even gonna front: I enjoyed that trailer more than all three Oceans combined. Here's why:

• Like you said, Alan Alda plays Bernie Madeoff. I love to hate that guy.

• Eddie Murphy is playing just one character. Which, granted, seems like the result of what would happen if you put his characters from Trading Places and 48 Hours into Seth Brundle's telepods. It's still a breath of fresh air for the actor, and as someone said, he should focus on ensamble movies. Kind of a shame he didn't play Motherfucker Jones, actually.

• Bears repeating: Eddie Murphy is playing one -JUST ONE- character.

Oh, it's not awful. I'll rent it, maybe. Better than Battleship.

The Precious chick has the comic timing of Sophie's Choice. Even in that one line, it was like she was trying not to giggle through the line.

Thing is, if anyone BUT Brett Ratner was directing this, and even kept the same cast, I'd say this looked great. But since he is, I can only say it looks OK.

I'm an easy target. I like ensemble comedies and heist movies. Eddie is playing a disreputable character. There's potential there.

Ratner doesn't instill the deepest confidence (heck, I like RUSH HOUR 1 and AFTER THE SUNSET was pretty), but I could rent that.

If only just to tell Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller they're on the right track, I'm in. Trailer's good enough on its own to warrant a matinee viewing, though.

I don't know if the trailer's "We need someone who knows how to rob people!" cutting to Stiller bailing out a black guy he knows, is genius or just oblivious. It may play differently in the movie but in the trailer it's fucking special.

It's Brett Ratner. It's oblivious.

That guy's race issues are just... wow. This trailer did not to dispel his complete lack of awareness on that front. Nevermind the fact that this idea originated as a black "Ocean's Eleven" with Ratner at the helm, and he allowed it to become a movie where Ben Stiller and Matthew Broderick bail Eddie Murphy out of prison.
