So weird. I've never heard of vanity cards.

ETA: Thanks Google! Here's a site with all of the cards from various shows. Big Bang Theory is in there. http://www.chucklorre.com/index-bbt.php?p=367

Maybe I'm just seeing things, but during the Jeff/Shirley flashback I noticed a reaction shot of one kid that seemed a little conspicuous.

Is this supposed to be young Abed?

You know, that shot stood out to me as well.  But unless the show is going to make some revelation about Abed's 'real' age, I highly doubt it.

Following his blow up, I was asked to do a Bale impression in an improv show. I did the Welch accent. After the game, people asked if I knew who Christian Bale was.

It might have just been because I instantly realized that Shirley's opponent was Jeff and so I was looking in the background for other younger members of the study group.

See, I wasn't thinking that at all.  But the fact that the kid got a medium shot to himself just made me take notice of it.

I've seen posts around the internet placing pretty much everyone in that flashback.  Abed, Chang, Annie, Troy, etc.  I'm fine with Jeff and Shirley knowing each other, since they're basically the same age.  It was one of my favorite things about the episode.  Beyond that, though...  All I have to say is, "NO! Stop it!"

Seriously.  This is quickly becoming the Star Wars prequels if that's the case.

More like the Final Fantasy 8, eh? Am I right folks? Anybody get that reference?

And we really needed an adult Pierce just hanging out with these kids for no reason.

The show does have a history of wiping the characters' memories after certain undead events!

So good. There have, in fact, been good Shirley episodes and moments, but she's the least geek-friendly character on the show, so she tends to get overshadowed. This kind of episode is exactly why shows should push at things that seem like they're not working.

Something that I missed that was pointed out in the AV Club's comments: when Troy leaves his sheet fort, humming his little song...and locks the sheet behind him.

It was nice to see how great a comic actress Yvette Nicole Brown can be when given the material. She would have made a killing in the golden age of multi-cam sitcoms.

I was looking through old Community photos I have posted on my Facebook page and came across the drunk Shirley photo posted in the bar they went to on Troy's birthday. Clearly her dark period extended past adolescence.

I can see Shirley having a dark past and that leading her to be a borderline zelot. Having all that anger and needing a healthier way to channel it

The cat should have been wearing a monocle.  Serious missed opportunity.

How is this NOT everyone's avatar by now?

Well, speaking for myself, until now I didn't have the screengrab. But now situation has been rectified.

First off, I laughed my head off from start to finish. I'd like to say FUCK YOU!!! to WPXI in Pittsburgh. They ran an episode of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire instead of Community. They did it because two WPXI news anchors where contestants.

Shirley is two years older than Jeff. At the time of the Foos Ball game she said she was 12, and Jeff said he was 10.

"I had a lot of Mountain Dew that day!"

Sweet dear and fluffy lord that was awesome!

Another great episode.  I like how it seems like Annie planned the closet thing with the neighbor. Another sign of how far Annie will go to carry a deception (ethering someone, then pretending to be ethered, then willing to ether everyone.).  I, too, miss Shirley and Jeff pairings. Great stuff.

Let's take a moment to acknowledge this is a frame from a prime time sitcom on NBC. How lucky are we that we get this joke on a primetime sitcom on NBC?

You got that out of that? I thought she was as creeped out as I was. Troy and Abed not quite getting it.

Not to interrupt the love-in, but hasn't this been done before? The moment where things get so preposterous that, for a brief few minutes, things morph into an anime?

Not saying it wasn't well done, but I feel like I've seen it before. Anyone?

I know it was done in the Clerks animated show, but the gag in the show was "budget restraints" and they had to farm the animationt out to Japan. Everything just went anime the last couple of minutes.

It was done much better here.

Futurama went anime in its recent season, but now it's on Comedy Central instead of Fox.

Is it quite the same thing when an animated show goes anime?

I'm racking my brains for a time that a network TV show has ever even acknowledged that anime exists before, and am coming up short. Although some lolicon-loving nerdfreak has probably been the perp on at least one NCSIL&O show.

I'm sure The Big Bang Theory has mentioned anime.

Nobody counts the Big Bang Theory for anything!!!!!

Heheheh.  Just kidding.

I think he meant planting the broken DVD somewhere in the landlord's apt.

Isn't she clearly seen pulling a piece of the DVD out of her blouse while no one is looking?

Yes she is.

Well, I was looking. But I am traditionally looking at her blouse.

Now I must question my own manhood. I was not looking at her blouse at all and thought she pulled the dvd piece from the stack of shoes...

Right, Annie planned to frame the landlord once Abed blamed him and used the opportunity to put the pieces in the closet. It shows forethought since she was carrying the DVD pieces with her.

I don't remember see anyone mentioning this, so maybe no one's notices yet, but Community is on Hulu Plus finally. I find it a little disconcerting though that it finally happens right before they go on hiatus.

Here's a link to Hulu's announcement.

I don't know if I'd find it disconcerting.  If anything, it seems like the hiatus announcement is what finally prompted them to make the deal as a show of support.  Who knows what Sony was asking for those rights.  Between this, the TV Guide cover, and pretty much nothing but negative press regarding the whole situation, NBC has some serious egg on its face.

Well, if Dan Harmon's cryptic tweets are any indication I don't feel good about this hiatus at all.  Then again, Dan Harmon is also terminally negative about anything that happens to Community.

BullSHIT it was done better.  This was awesome.  Clerks Animated's moment is AMAZING.

He's very optimistic (for him) about in on his personal blog. I'll try to find the link when I get a moment.

Heh. Granted it's been years since I've seen the Clerks one, and I remember laughing (especially with the Tom Cruise bit), but the Community one had me rolling over.

Watching Animated Clerks now is a real seesaw between oh-god-that's-embarrassingly-shitty and wow-I-can't-believe-how-hard-they-nailed-that-joke. Transformers gag is one of the latter.

Harmon is pissed because NB has dumped a bunch of clips from tomorrow's episode on the website. But this is gold:

I wonder how it's even possible that I simultaneously do and don't regret watching that early and out of context. Simply amazing.

There's just so much to like in that 99 seconds. My favorite detail that won't spoil any thing? The sheet backdrop.

No one else noticed that Leonard says in his video that it's November 29th but the video was "uploaded" on November 26th?

SUBTEXT!! Clearly this means the show is canceled! (sarcasm)

So great to see Troy get his Gambino on.  I guess they originally put up a bunch of other clips that have since been pulled, so it sounds like NBC fucked up, and Harmon had every right to be pissed.

Also, from College Humor and the cast; simultaneously awesome and depressing.
