Cobb walking away from the spinning top, it having become meaningless to him, is a perfect capper to Inception and the character.

John Doe certainly goes out in style - how many villains exit a film having won for chrissake?

Well, if we're gonna go to different media here: Red Dead Redemption. The Last Enemy Shall Be Destroyed.

If we're going other media, [spoilage]Charlie's[/spoilage] exit is a brilliant selection.  To the great exit's of television, I will add:

She Saved The World.  A Lot.

Two from the same movie, great for different reasons:

One is an application of supreme strength and rage.

One is an acceptance of fate and peace.

The "how" is everything with that show, so I'm gonna let this slide. But as someone who still only on Season 2, I'm making an impassioned plea to the lot of you to keep the Lost spoilers vague.

No picture, but I've always admired how Rosie Perez leaves Woody Harrelson and the movie itself in 'White Man Can't Jump'.  It's a great character moment.

Given that the thread is "Great Exits" and there were about 15 spoilers before mine, I'd assume spoilers were involved.  But I apologize.

One of the most sudden and surprising exits in any film that I've ever seen.

edit:  This one too, for the same reasons:

Lowell Bergman walking out of CBS News in The Insider.  Slow-mo.  Off to Frontline.  Badass journalist who continues to fight the good fight.

There's no gloating, no 'fuck you, Chazz!'. He just cooly, calmly walks away, shaking off his supposed 'limp', lights up a cigarette, gets in a car, knowingly glances towards Pete Postelthwaite (because who knows what that character's real name is at this point) and drives away. It's like the whole interrogation was nothing at all to him, just another act, because in the end, it was. Motherfucker is playing an entirely different game than everyone else in the film.

ETA: in some ways, this could also count as both an exit and an entrance for the character.

"Great" in the sense of amazing.  Simultaneously a bit depressing and liberating.

Leo Dicaprio's character in The Departed.  I'd never seen Infernal Affairs, so I don't know if that scene and the abruptness is even in it, but it took me completely by surprise.

ETA: Oh!  And in the same vein, Brad Pitt's character in Burn after Reading!  That one was both jarring and comical, especially his goofy ass look.
