Technically it's not the last scene in the film (or his character's) but Sefton's exit from the barracks to grab Dunbar and escape is a personal favorite; telling everybody off that beat him thinking he was the traitor, climbing down the hole and then popping back up to give a brief, pithy salute with a wry smile on his face.  "If I ever run into any of you bums on a street corner, just let's pretend we've never met before"

BIG BURN AFTER READING SPOILERS

Kind of off topic but you could write tomes on the meaning of that ending.  I re-watched it recently and I've almost convinced myself that the scene signifies the power of belief in the face of overwhelming ignorance and being clueless.

Sorry for the size, but with Lean you can't go small:

Schwartz, that just reminds me that Burn After Reading deserves way more love than it seems to get.  Well done.

How about the opening sequence to the new Star Trek?  I still choke up every time when Mama Kirk and Papa Kirk are saying their goodbyes, and talking about names...sniff.

I got the Brad Pitt one on page 1, but it was an edit, so it coulda been missed.

I think we all may have to agree that almost the entirety of the Coen canon is loaded with great entrances and exits really...

Trav McGee is killing everybody in this thread. Well done, good sir.

I'll add Slim Pickens DR. STRANGELOVE

Oh, in the spirit of director's who do a great job of exits, Tarantino comes to mind also.  Marvin, Bridget Fonda in Jackie Brown, Shosanna in Inglorious Basterds just to get you started...not to mention Kill Bill...

That hurts, I started reading this I immediately grabbed the same image and was going to post it. Agreed, Coen bros. has an impressive resume on "exits".

Two pages and no mention of Spock sacrificing himself in Wrath of Khan? For shame. I don't even have much affection for the character or movie and I think that's a great scene

Great exits usually mean something new is born, or something is earned.

-Agent Smith - The Matrix (lesser extent Revolutions)

-Almost everything in Die Hard, but the nick of time death for Hans Gruber

-Trend, but Harry Potter 7.2 when Lilly bites it, Snape and baby Harry in tears.

-Whoa, "I've been shot" Galaxy Quest.

-Blade 1, 2 villain deaths, blade through a crotch in Blade 2.

Frank (Henry Fonda) and Cheyenne (Jason Robards) in ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST

Levene (Jack Lemmon) in GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS ... Moss (Ed Harris)'s hilarious, obscenity-laden farewell is also great, but has less emotional power

Ray Liotta's villain, like Belmondo in LE DOULOS, checking his hair before he stumbles off to expire (SOMETHING WILD)

Crossing media again, the last season of Angel is chock god damn full of them.

"Oh, and you're welcome."

"Good night, folks."

"Would you like me to lie to you?"

"Yes....thank you, yes."

"...do you think I could get a recommendation?"

"Yeah, okay."
"But if you don't live..."
"It's on the desk."
"Oh, you're the best!"

Going back to TV for a second: the shocking, beautifully executed demise of Derek Reese in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is worth mentioning. Without the slightest hint of warning or foreshadowing, it just happened. Boom! The end. A ballsy, brilliant moment from the short-lived, oft-inspired series.

Steven Seagal, in Executive Decision.

"We're not gonna make it!"

"You are!"

Less important than how boss Seagal was in that moment is the impact it has on the rest of the movie.  After spending the first act establishing that Seagal is the man for this job and Kurt Russell's intelligence puke is not, the audience is swerved and the stakes are raised.  What appeared to be an action flick with a pat, indestructible lead turns into David versus Goliath.
