I am most certainly digging. The colors are more muted than Singer's, but the look still works.

Why so serious?

As a big fan of the character, I think it looks pretty good. I'm glad they went big with the shield and the cape. Color pallet is darker than I'd like, but that's par for the course for WB's thinking on these movies.

It probably won't happen, but I'd like to see a movie take the character back to his Socialist roots. Now's the perfect time!

Scaly. Cavill looks more like the Reeves of the '40s than the Reeve of the '70s, which is very reassuring. But its palette is very "A Zack Snyder Film", which is disconcerting. Jury's out, I guess.

He's got dad-hair.

For a first look, I think it's a pretty good shot.  Looks a bit different than the Superman I am used to (Reeves), but DUH to that.  Even Brandon Routh, I felt, fit the Reeves mold pretty well.  But, in this case, perhaps something different is what we need.  I like Snyder's style, though admittedly, it does work better sometimes than others, but in the end the idea of him doing Superman certainly piques my interest.  DC needs another  winner, so hopefully (for their sake) Snyder delivers.

looks good. Shield sticks out abit and cant tell if he has the red trunks..

Am i the only one that thinks he looks like Superman a porn parody?

No. You're not.

He looks like the Dark Superman in Superman III.  Maybe that's why he's breaking into vaults.

It's just a picture, but I'm not digging the vibe, he's wearing his rapeface.

I like the face, he's almost smirking. He's happy to be there, something Routh's Kal-El lacked. Also digging on the brighter colors.

Now he just needs to fight giants robots and/or lizards from Planet X.

Where did his eyebrows go? Not bad, I can live with that.
Yeah, not digging the muted colors. Hope it's just that photo. And he looks like he's about to rape you.

I think the costume is a definite upgrade from the Singer version. The Singer version was basically underarmor with the small Superman “S”. I like that the cape is brighter than the Singer version. You can tell its brighter, even in this darkly lit picture. I am not so sure about the cape length, though…he’s not Spawn. The cape shouldn’t be that long. How is it functional? I could see it impairing flight…that’s a lot of cape.

I am not a fan of the slicked back hair. In my mind, Superman should always have the “curly q” on his forehead, or at least some hair hanging down.

I agree with Shunderson, his demeanor in this picture is a little too serious/dark. I mean, with the hair slicked back and the scowl, he looks more like a villain.

This. It actually looks like SuperMAN. Remember the first look at Routh in costume? Yikes. And good on them for putting Superman in action and not just some stilted pose.

There's no doubt they are trying to give Superman some edge. His popularity is not what it used to be so I'm sure this will be a re-invention in his personality a little.

Routh looked fine in his shots.

This has the most replies, so I'll comment here.

I concur entirely with Merriweather's "Scaly". Cavill also looks closer to the iron-jawed Supes from the comics which is probably a good sign for those who wanted more ass-kicking out of this character.

This is the least interesting part, though. Whatever teaser they put together, and the tone Snyder/Nolan choose to strike, will tell the full tale.

Keeping in mind, no matter what, they're gonna have to work their asses off to beat the perfection of this.

Brandon Routh disapproves.

Egads!  3 different threads...  At first I thought my post had been lost in the ether, but I found it.  Here it is (from the poll thread):

Looks like he took a page from the Derek Zoolander Book a' Looks to become the Man of BLUE Steel.

Yep. That's what I figured a Zack Snyder Superman would look like. I can already see the slow-motion pounding that vault is going to take.

He appears to have made a better Bizarro than Supes.

If you completely divorce yourself from any kind of Christopher Reeve comparison, it's not bad.  It's a 'safe' first look.

He looks like a Superman who's about to kick some ass. Right or wrong, isn't that what everyone has been clamoring for?

How is a cape ever functional?

You think Superman is going to be impaired by a cape?

The pose is a little awkward. It looks like he's passing some super-gas and that's what's destroying the safe behind him.

I like it a lot. Not that in love with the texture of the suit, but it looks really good.

Maybe its me, but it also looks like the costume has....cargo pants?  Maybe that's where Superman keeps his hair gel and brush for that wind tunnel '80's look that he's sporting.

Yeah, we don't see superheroes fart that much in movies.

I like it. As I said in the other thread I'm not too hot on the texture but the design is great. I also like that they chose a more dynamic pose for the first reveal, rather than the usual.

I like how one of the first comments was that the colours are more muted than on Singer's Superman. The colours on Routh's costume being too muted was one of the few things that bothered me about it. If anything, I thought they'd go brighter this time. It's not that bad, though. It's hard to tell from photos. I thought Routh's costume looked horrible when the first photo of him as Superman was released, but it looked fine in the movie. The weirdest thing in this picture is the hair. So does anyone think Snyder and co. are just doing away with the curl altogether because they think it's too goofy and forced for modern times?

Reminds me a lot of this:

41.jpg

Which is to say, I love it, it's like Supes is saying, 'Oh, I'm sorry, did I break your concentration?' It's Superman gearing up for a fight; what looks to be an actual fight between him and not some giant piece of earth he has to lift. Awesome.

I admit it's only this one picture, but this new Super-Do isn't looking any more modern than Reeves'.   It seems they're now going for a 1988-guido look.  Only things missing here are the Keds, Cavarichies and teal Iroc Z with T-tops.

Don't forget the fast-slow-fast-slow Snyder speed ramping.  I'll bet that there'll be a ton of that with this movie.

Yeah, this. I'm not really loving the texture of the suit or the raised S, but I like the "in action" element of the shot and the fact that he's not just Mr Super Serene Man. He's coming to tear someone a new asshole, and he's really OK with that.

I remain skeptical about Snyder's ability to give the story a solid emotional core, but at least we know it's going to look really fantastic.

That doesn't bother me.  Hell, speed ramping could work GREAT in the context of a Superman movie.

I like to think of this thread as the good Superman thread, and that other one as the drunken, evil, Richard Pryor-tinged Superman thread.

Not bad. Makes me think of those old Max Fleischer cartoons.

"SAY JIM! That's a bad outfit! WOO!"

I like it. I upped the saturation in PS, and hopefully it'll look more vibrant in the movie.  I even kinda liked the Returns suit, but after looking at it compared to this, the Returns suit looks even sillier (small s-shield, high collar, awkward length boots...). Like most people, I think I'd prefer a more traditional haircut for Supes, but I'll adjust.

Supes and Thor shop at the same fabric shop.

Joking aside, it looks good to me.  Love the pose.  That vault door surely had it coming.

Using this space here to say that I truly think Tommy Wiseau should play Bizarro.

Man. I didn't even like Returns but that just made me lament the fact that we're aren't getting a straight sequel.

I really liked Routh and I think Singer could have made a really fine follow up once he got all the overly sentimental stuff out of his system.

I like Snyder but I'm so tired of reboots. Is this really necessary? (I'm aware this question is about ten months old but this is as good a place as any to ask)

Whether the picture is good or bad is, really, beside the point, since Snyder's going to make this whole thing feel like an empty shell. I have a feeling people will be begging for a speed-ramp for themselves mid-way through the movie.

Eh, it's Superman alright. I'm just glad they put this off until 2013, next year is going to be so crowded geek movie wise.

MERGED! It was inevitable...

Texture looks a little pronounced on the shield, but I dig overall. Hate how goddamn artificial everything is in the shot except for Superman.
