HISS. SCRATCH. IT’S CATWOMAN - Page 2

So, I'm crazy for thinking the photo manip is better than the original?

Nope. The stunt double is hotter than the original too.

I gotta agree with Elisabeth's "That's ... Catwoman?" and Stelios's "There's nothing going on."

So far, so blah.

That's exactly why I don't like it. There's that scene in TDK where he drives up the wall to turn round that I kept reading about fanboys jizzing over but it just looked goofy as fuck to me. Same with the scene where he's speeding through town - I think just before the wall trick. The bike is ridiculous, and not in a good way.

I can't believe after a teaser trailer and photos revealing the two new villains I am still totally disinterested in this film... what the hell is going on here?

You guys have seen the other two Nolan Bat-flicks right? You do know he tends to go for a real world aesthetic?

Honestly what else were you expecting?

That comment doesn't fit when the picture shows her on that ludicrously unreal world Bat Pod Ken.

I mean, if The Bat wears a face mask, why not The Cat?

I have to agree. I don't think it fits with what we've seen of Bane, either.   We're talking a very heightened, not-quite-our-world aesthetic when you incorporate previous villains like the Joker or Two-Face.  I see no reason Catwoman (in a pared down, Batmanesque suit) can't fit in that world with ears or claws on her suit.

OK granted that was a little bit over the top.  But one of things I like about Both films is that both the Tumbler and the Batpod were built with practicality in mind. There is an episode of Top Gear where they had the Tumbler on the show and proved it can do most of what it is supposed to in the film.  That is what i meant by "real world".

And I suspect what we are getting here (in part) in an origin story for Catwoman - hence why she is called Selina, so I can buy that she doesn't go full on hero straight away.

Why do you assume she won't wear a cowl/mask at some point? This is one photo, from one scene, in a 150 minute film.

Why do I suspect that Nolan will be using Catwoman in this version as a Robin stand-in?   I mean, it's been done in the comics before, Catwoman as a Batman ally.....I guess I'm just curious how the Nolan Bros. pull this off.

Looks to be the final costume. Does Nolan have a real world answer as to how this 120 lb girl is gonna "kick ass"? This is an elaborate joke right?

Is she going to "kick ass"? Isn't she just going to burgle and sneak around a lot? I'm sure Michelle Pfeiffer wasn't built like a cagefighter when she did Returns.

The costume is fine. It doesn't have ears. Big whoop.

If anything, the design looks like an over-reactive effort to avoid repeating this:

I can't NOT think about this as some goofy promotion for 3D glasses.

The authenticity of that picture has been challenged. There are several things different from what we've seen in the official release and the spy photos.

By being increasingly embarrassed of its own comic book origins, the costumes in this movie keep looking even more ridiculous that I could have imagined. Bane looks like some type of Metal Gear Solid boss, and "Catwoman" here looks beyond generic. All of this in a universe where the main guy dresses up like a bat, and masks his voice with an unintentionally funny growl.

Good thing this is the last movie.

It's fine really, it's Nolan's movie, he can do what he wants. Just a shame they didn't go for something a little more kinky, and a little less Black Widow 2.0.

I was initially critical of the costume, but seeing the "sky is falling" reactions (particularly criticisms of the way Bane looks, what with the lame ass design found in the funny books), puts me firmly on Nolan's side. Also, just to hammer home a point...

Nothing about this film looks exciting or special. I understand that living up to the franchise in a post-Joker world is difficult but it doesn't even seem like it's trying. The teaser says exactly what one would expect it to say as a sequel to TDK. The Bane costume looks adequate and the Catwoman costume looks adequate (at best). When we were skeptical of Heath Ledger's Joker they hit us right in the face with a pretty fun internet campaign and a teaser that made us believe the film and the Joker were going to be far more special than we were expecting.

Has there been anything released in connection this film that is anything but shrug-worthy? I'm not saying this movie blows because the costumes are underwhelming, I'm wondering why they're "teasing" us with a steady stream of "blah" this time.

Jesus Christ, the internet. I'll give people the whole Catwoman thing, simply b/c it's perhaps a little more off-model and thin on personality than any of the costumes for these films thusfar, but honestly, it seems as if nothing will satisfy some  people other than Nolan making exactly the film they see in their heads, releasing exactly the teaser material they want to see, and delivering a final product that not only meets their exact specifications, but also comes with (free of charge) a supplementary Anne Hathaway blowjob machine.

Sooooo.... you think we're asking for too much?

The costume is what I thought it would be; a function one piece black suit. Since the Nolan Batman movies are somewhat realistic, I assumed Seline Kyle's outfit would be something that a professional burglar would wear. She won't be called Catwoman, but she'll be compared to a cat. I know someone wrote the same thing a few posts back.

Is that so much to ask?

Seriously though, apparently her backstory includes

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

her as a stripper and a thief. Being a stripper might be how she gets the name Catwoman.

Has there really been "sexuality" in any of Nolan's films?

For what it's worth, Catwoman not being such an intimately linked totem character might assist in strengthening her own identity instead of being chiefly defined by her relationship w/ Batman, which is what her solo series was all about for a quite a few years.

You actually believe that Nolan is going to have Selina Kyle be a stripper?

She'll probably be a nun that cat-burgles on the side.

I don't get it Johnny. Hammer some more.

I was sure that the whole masked vigilante sub-plot in The Dark Knight was at least in part to set-up Catwoman in the sequel.  I mean, if you had copy-cats dressing up as Batman, why not have one take it a step further and create their own persona, especially after Batman's fall from grace.  Seemed like a perfectly good excuse to have someone running around dressed like a cat.

But even if they're going to eschew the Catwoman persona altogether, I still wish they'd have gone for an outfit with a bit more character to it.  I understand that they're going for something functional, but all that distinguishes it from Black Widow/Trinity/Kate Beckinsale in Underworld are the goggles and those look goofy as hell.

My only expectations were to be pleasantly surprised by or excited about something by now. I don't think it's too much to ask for a teaser to garner some anticipation for the film since that's their purpose.

I'm not sitting here angry that Catwoman doesn't have ears, I'm sitting here wondering why everything they are showing us is to this point is so underwhelming. After a trailer and two character reveals the best I'm hearing is: "Looks fine to me...". Nary a "wow" or "whoa" anywhere. This is interesting to me in comparison to the buzz during this stage of TDK's marketing.

It's promotional materials for a movie that doesn't come out in a year. Does it really matter what quality they are? Are we going to see something and say, "Wow, that Chris Nolan, director of Memento, Inception and The Dark Knight, has REALLY LOST IT this time"?

Ultimately, who gives a shit? It's a picture of a girl on a bike. What is this SUPPOSED to look like? Sometimes promotional material is meant to serve no purpose other than, "THIS MOVIE IS COMING OUT NEXT YEAR." Not "OH WOW THAT GIRL ON A BIKE LOOKS LIKE SHE'S UP TO NOOOO GOOD!"

We're all wasting bandwidth. We're not ooohing and aaaahing because there's practically nothing to ooooh and aaaah about yet.

Oh crap, guess we should all go get lives, right?

*In response to Timothy Q*

If that's the best you're hearing, then that's the only thing you're listening for*. I think you might be misremembering a little of the buzz on TDK. Not only were people in serious doubt about Ledger, but that very first viral photo of him in full Joker makeup had people up in arms about his (sight unseen) characterization being humorless and grim; shit, I was one of those guys initially put off by how grotesque and dark it looked. I'm fine with people not liking the look of something, but doomsaying over fragments has always been a bunch of nonsense to me and you'd think that people would have learned to kick back and relax and wait to see if the story (which has an extraordinary uphill battle ahead of it) delivers.

*Also, I'm of the mind that this picture would not have been released if it hadn't been for all of the spy photos/videos making the rounds. It's not so much damage control (as most of the reactions to the spy spuff has been positive) as it is marketing control.

I like the suit.

I said at "this stage of the marketing"... post-teaser (and with the help of a great viral campaign) the buzz was overwhelmingly positive from what I remember. Am I wrong on this one? I'm feeling no buzz regarding Rises... where is the buzz? I see no buzz...

I'm going to jump over to the Rises thread though. I've been a bit of a derailer here.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the second photo we got was of The Joker sitting in the holding cell at the police station.  I believe it was on the cover of Empire.

Exactly.  Batman, Scarecrow, Ra's Al Ghul, Joker, and Two-Face have all be referred to by their "comic book" names in the films.............usually more than once.  Catwoman will be no different.
