Elisabeth wants Bud White to show up and save her Christmas

Mmm... kiddie-raper-beef.

I love the sinister glare & grin Bud gives the husband when he grabs the guy's head, tilts it up, and asks, "You know what they do to kiddie-rapers in Quentin?"

You know, even The City of Angels gets a fine introduction in this film.

EDIT:  I should stop skimming so fast.

LA Confidential is easily in my top ten films of all time. But I've never been particularly fond of Crowe's Bud White. Then again I'm not a fan of the character as written so I doubt even zombie Laurence Olivier could have done much with it. I like his introduction, but I don't think it tells us as much about the character as Rappe does. My take is that despite being vaguely intelligent, and having a particular moral code, he's far more bullheaded and reactive than the opening portrays him. That chivalrous streak is shown to be pretty overdeveloped in a few key sequences, and I think that defines White better than his opening. But that's just my interpretation.

I'd say that each of the intros tell us a lot about each character only to flip some of those traits on their head as the film goes on.

Bud is chivalrous to the point where he is just as capable of inflicting violence upon a woman.

Exley is the straight arrow who isn't beyond selling out to get ahead.

Vincennes is the jaded veteran who still has some conscience left.

Yeah, you're right. LA Confidential is a movie full of great 'second or third introductory scenes' (Bud White harrassing Patchett in his car because of a presumed beating, Exley offering to testify against White, Vincenze settling down into his new position and looking into Fleur de Lise). We actually did a Chud watchalong of this before LA Noire came out and everytime Bud noticed a woman in peril we all did the Ironside music from Kill Bill. Now I can't help but think of that whenever I think of the film.

Hahahahahaha.

Whenever you talk about these watch-alongs, I feel like the loner outside the window looking in.

You should arrange something using the Chud chatroom or PSN or something, they're really fun. We're doing Best of the Best 1 and 2, Kickboxer and Bloodsport tonight.

Hahahah.  Trying to organize something with the chatroom rarely seems to work out well.  It's particularly difficult with the time zones.

I have no idea how to do it with the PSN.
