Another franchise gets its unlikely 5th theatrical release.

I could pretty much watch Jovovich all day.  She is one beautiful woman.

Do people really anticipate this franchise? Like the Underworld franchise, every film seems like the exact same as the one before it.

It really is a war between Underworld and Resident Evil for "most mediocre franchise."

And hottest babes for mediocre francises.  Who both sleep with their husband/directors...hmm.

Love the games.

The movies have ranged from good (the first) to ridiculous but fun (second), to bland (third), and finally incomprehensible (fourth). The Anderson directed entries have a unique music video style that keeps the series at least looking pretty, but these movies are bottom of the barrel at this point.

How can Jovovich have such a quietly successful franchise without ever having broken out as an actress? I'll always love her for The Fifth Element, but the Alice character is an empty Mary Sue. Almost eight hours of film have been devoted to her as a main character, and I can't define any of her personality traits outside of the obligatory "badass".

Good for Anderson cranking out action-porn starring his wife, but is there any sand left in this box to play in? Post-Apocalyptic world, and yet Umbrella seems to have limitless resources.

Well, maybe Leon will show up this time.

Apparently he will.

FACT: I saw part 4 in the theater in 3D.

FACT #2: I don't remember shit from that experience.

FACT #3: I will watch UNDERWORLD and RES EVIL flicks before I watch another HALLOWEEN or NOES remake.

Who cares to everything to do with this franchise?

These films are made for one reason and one reason alone. They are cheap.

While not a great series by any stretch, the Underworld films are leagues better than the RE ones in my opinion.  At the very least, you get to watch Bill Nighy, Tony Curran, and Michael Sheen chew scenery likes there is no tomorrow.  Am I looking forward to Underworld IV?  Not really, but I'll certainly see it when given the opportunity.

As for Resident Evil 5?  Fuck no.  I thought the first was mildly entertaining and had a fun little cast (Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Colin Salmon, James Purefoy, etc.).  The second entry (and the closest one to the games) was a piece of shit.  The third is actually the only one that I legitimately enjoy and I think that has more to do with the regulars being comfortable in their roles and the occasionally (though not lately) reliable Russell Mulcahy directing.  It isn't a great film by any stretch, but it is a hell of a lot more fun than the rest of them.  I missed the fourth one in theaters, mostly because I thought it looked terrible.  Apparently the 3D was beautifully done, but from what I could tell when I watched it on BR.................that must have been the ONLY thing it had going for it.  I had to force myself to pay attention to the television while it was playing since I was watching it with a friend.  Afterlife was not only a horrible film...but a boring one as well.

I have absolutely no interest in seeing any more entries in this franchise and I'm done with Anderson as well.  I dug Event Horizon and have always had soft spots for Mortal Kombat and Soldier, but everything else he has directed since has been mediocre to terrible.  The best thing that his name has been attached to recently was something he only produced (Death Race 2).

Saw the 4th one opening weekend in 3D and loved it. It had no plot advancement whatsoever, but what action I saw in it I loved, and there was a lot of it.

I'm hoping part 5 takes a cue from the 4h Resident Evil game. That one is ripe for being turned into a movie.

Rene (Mr.Eko), I saw...Resident Evil, RE 3, and RE 4.  I did not like the first Resident Evil film.  Ali Larter interested me enough as...Claire Redfield, that I saw part 3.  Milla wasn't the action heroine in the first Resident Evil, that she eventually became.  I thought RE 4 was quite cool.  I am definitely on board with watching...Resident Evil: Retribution 3D September 2012 in theaters.

S.D. Bob Plissken, I just hated...Underworld.  I will definitely take the tales of...EEEEEEEEEEvil Residents of Racoon City, over that.  RE 4 is the...Best of the series, but Retribution might top it.
