Are there still people here? - Page 2

I'm still around. I'm in the blu-ray thread the most. For what it's worth, I love Chud, but I'm approching 40, and movies just aren't a big priority anymore. I watch movies here and there, but my days of staying up all night with a stack of DVDs are long gone. I haven't touched a game controller all year.

I do love the weekly video though, and I miss List of Dumb. I wonder what ever happened to DSV?

Still here, still adding to discussions about things I enjoy, even though numerous intriguing posters have left or begun posting less. BAD is okay, but it feels more like Devin Faraci's blog (no matter how well-written) than an engaging community. I could give a shit about Guy.com, so I guess once this site's done, I'll be forced to go outside. Until then, I'm in for the long (or short) haul.

Keep in mind that the site redesign was almost immediately afterwards.  There are definitely people who didn't take the change well (for whatever reason) and decided that was as good a time as any to split.  Unfortunately it seems that the financial issues the the site has been having are causing more front page folk to leave which will likely have an impact on us shmucks who hang out back here as fans of those folks become less common.

First of all, that's not really true.  Nick has always recognized the issue there but has gone back and forth between "trying to fix it" and "I don't have the time and energy to help these assholes who are stuck in this perpetual cycle".  I do think there's significantly less abuse than I'm used to seeing, but that's a matter of personal opinion.  Nick is in one of his hands off phases right now but I don't think the inmates are burning down the asylum.

Nick's focus and energy is elsewhere right now, and based on CHUD history that's probably in his best interest.  I get the feeling he's phasing Renn in more and more so we'll see what comes of that.

You're right and I agree with you.  However, now that folks are wondering where everyone went, I would point to the negativity as the cause of many departures.  It's more subtle than jugular-ripping, but it's still there.  The beginning of this thread is an example.

You are right that that were too many changes, too fast.  Foremost of which, in my mind, was not Devin's departure, but the redesign.  Even Princess Kate's banning took a toll.

And yeah, a lot of us are older now, and maybe this doesn't work for us anymore.  Speaking as a student of organizational psychology, though, this is all fascinating to watch.  I think Renn has his work cut out for him, but also that he's up to the task.  Time will tell.

Anderson - go fuck yourself, whoever the fuck YOU are. Maggot. This site is dying and you pull some Cool Kid's Club shit like this?

How about this? List the members you WANT a head-count from and that way everyone else doesn't have to watch you wave your tiny diseased dick around.

This site is fucked. What a fucking circle-jerk.

Chill the fuck out. There will be no personal attacks against Anderson on my watch. Climb back into the shithole you came from.

Dude, you're a mod. Act like one.

1. Anderson can be a weird duck sometimes.  His humor is not always humorous.  Irony!

2. This is CHUD and while I think it's standards are pretty high, it is still the interwebs.  You have to have been demeaned by some random asshole you never met before.  If not, then welcome to the interwebs!

3. I'm still here, even if nobody knows who I am.

Why do all these people that I definitely recognize think nobody knows who they are?  Or is that just a defensive response to disarm Anderson before he can yell at you?

I forgot about this already, but I had a few people bring it up today.

80% of the forum members can leave, but you can always count on what remains to shit themselves over nothing.

Cool to see Dylan, Bark, Wayward and the others are still here.

Not a big guitar person, but I liked the Tumblr site.

Some people did, sure, but I wonder how many left when they had nothing left to complain about. It would be interesting to see those numbers.
And if post count increases, but customer count decreases, is that good? I honestly don't know the answer to that.

But, seriously. Did that one douche leave because of a comment about animated gifs?

REALLY?!?

No.

I feel more people have been posting in the past few months. Back to normal actually. Especially after the downturn during the redesign.

Love the "Well Met" and "Franchise" articles. And i don't miss Princess Kate one bit.

She's over at Guy. I saw her over there when I tip-toed into that other pond. People love to shit on her, but at least she tries.

I've been warned that you're here or as some last vestige of hierarchical power? If this is a Russian Empire in the Fall of 1917 sort of thing going down, I'd like to know.

Anderson, if you make me, I will love you up. I will love you up in the most filthy of ways. You have two options: one of them is to sit back and enjoy the lovin'. Guess the other.

In short, a lot of us are still here.  It's no secret that we're in a bit of a...haze right now.  We've lost some good, fun, familiar faces on both sides of the site, but we're still here.  And we plan on staying that way.  And we're glad you're here too.  We're trying to come up with ways to boost everything traffic and discussion-wise, but it's a process.  In the interim keep posting, keep trying to bring new people in, keep Liking or Digging or whatever your preferred method of sharing the articles is.  I realize there are a lot of longtimers with thoughts and theories and opinions on the various struggles we've had and there's nothing inherently wrong or objectionable about sharing them, but I would ask that we try to focus on looking forward.  The fact of the matter is we've HAD all of those discussions multiple, multiple times and at this point there's nothing to say on the past that hasn't been said.  So - onward and upward.  What we don't want is negativity, or attacks, or grumpy assholes who just want to stir up shit.  If you hate CHUD then go away, if you love CHUD but are frustrated with the current State of the Union, so to speak, then we understand.  We are too, and we want to fix it.  To that end, let us know what you like, what you don't like and what you'd like to see more of.  You can always feel free to get a hold of Eileen, myself, Renn and Nick if you have anything you'd like us to look at or address.  But again, we ask that you keep it positive and constructive.  We're all a bit too busy to deal with the same attacks that have been lobbed at us for quite awhile now.

At the end of the day all (well, most) of us are here because despite everything else we love CHUD.  Right now I think that'll be as good a platform as any to start making this the site and community you want and deserve.  I look forward to seeing ALL of you (new and old alike) around the site.

Well said, but how is this different than any other time?

Yeah I've been busy with stuff/life. It's just people change, and move on.

Not that CHUD is something to leave, it's more just priorities change. I don't get to visit as much as possible any more.

We gotta pick up the energy though. I understand that jobs, kids, drug dealing now take up time in lives, but I think we gotta muster some spare juice. Also get new juice as well...

...then our fruit punch will conquer all!

Because at this point there's nowhere to go but up.

I like movies. Let's talk about movies.

I feel there are more THE STATE OF CHUD posts than there are actual threads about MOVIES.

I mean, why else are we here?

("Daisy Lowe" would be an acceptable response, I suppose)

Apparently she's an acquired taste, but I never acquired it.  She's the only person I've ever ignored on the forums and apparently she'd been gone for weeks by the time I noticed because of that.  I couldn't stand reading her stuff, but I figured that's why there was an ignore feature anyhow.

That's it! I'm proposing to Jeremy.

Well said dear buddy and you are absolutely correct in that the only thing now is to go forward.

That's one way of putting it, another way of putting it is that he made a good point.  I choose the latter!  Also, I'm glad to see you back here!

So, in the spirit of constructive criticism, is this a good place to ask why the site isn't doing tag team reviews for Breaking Bad?  If it isn't worth the treatment, I don't know what is, and Nick's been vocal about his love.  What's holding it back?

Helluva question, actually.  Though I dunno how tag-teamy it would be, if nothing else though I'm sure Nick and Renn could knock it out.

Only speaking for myself, it's coming from a place of comparing myself to the likes of Phil, Brad Millette, stelios, Bartelby, et al - folks who definitely know their shit re: film, who post thoughtful, informed and insightful things, and who are consistently funny. (That list of posters ain't exhaustive, either - just blanking out for a moment.)

I dunno. I guess I feel sort of boring compared to CHUD's Hall of Fame posters, and thus figure no one really "knows" me here like they know those guys.

And all of that sounds waaay more needy and insecure than it's meant to be. I'm fine just being one of the many.

If this is to suggest that you and Josh and Eileen aren't watching, OMFGGETONTHATSHITBREAKINGBADISTEHBESTEVAH!  But you could also tap Morse or one of the thread regulars (Prankster is pretty consistently on point, if he's available).

And my WWF knowledge may be a bit outdated, but isn't a tag team just 2 dudes anyway?

I really wanna watch it but I never jumped on board at the beginning so I've been waiting for an opportunity to do that (hopefully it hits Instant soon since they snagged Mad Men).

I'm trying, but frankly I'm aware of the huge gaping holes in my knowledge, film and otherwise. Don't want to go the PK route, ya know?

I'd love to do what Bartelby's been doing - starting threads with some really well-thought out questions and observations about film or groups of films, but I honestly am just not very good at that kind of analysis. I appreciate the hell out of it, but am not terribly good at informed, worthwhile analysis.

And like I said - I'm not trying to whinge. I've never expected to be one of CHUD's superstars. Just trying to be a good citizen.

The fact that you're at all curious about movies you haven't seen automatically sets you far ahead of some of the kids I have to deal with every day. Nothing enrages me quite as much as someone who (for example) refuses to watch anything in black-and-white and doesn't even bother to articulate why.

As for the "old-school Chewer" question, I've been coming here pretty much continuously for eight years and I still feel like a newbie most of the time.
