Mike Myers signs for Austin Powers 4, and Verne Troyer will get to work again

Michael, you and I are very different people. I loved the first one, tolerated the second, abhorred the third. There is a trend there.

I'll see it. I found stuff to enjoy in all 3, but the first is definitely the best.

It's sad that the only watchable thing from the third movie (other than Beyonce) is the parody at the beginning- Devito as Mini-Me was fucking brilliant.

I like the Goldmember, but it repeated a lot of the same jokes. I guess its kinda like Airplane 2; its enjoyable, but no where near as good as what came before it. There doesn't need to be anymore Austin Powers movies.

I never saw the appeal of these films.  Fuck this franchise with no rubber.

Wow you've grown so mean..............I like it.

She scares me.

I can't believe it's taken this fucking long for Myers to go back to the Austin Powers well.

Loved the first one

Hated the second one

Was OK with the third one

Is there any place left to take these characters? I really enjoyed the first two, but the third felt tired and a mite desperate. The Spielberg cameo was aces, though. That said, this franchise has already grown insufferably meta. Not sure I trust Myers - as much as I like him... in theory - to reinvent the wheel.

Betcha anything he riffs on the 'Casino Royale' rebootification of Bond and starts over with the character.

Oh yes. Three words for ya. Austin Powers Junior. Any guesses on who will play his son?

Judging from the shameless star-whoring in part 3, I'm gonna say Justin Beiber or Taylor Lautner.

I'd guess Myers.

Over the years, this is the one thing I've consistently loved about the film. Well, that and the time machine is a pimpmobile.

Same here. I would have figured right after The Love Guru massively flopped, he would have immediately jumped into Austin Powers 4, BUT instead, he went and did Inglorious Basterds, and that makes him ok in my book.

Are you reall calling for a darker take of Austin Powers? I hope you were joking.

The first is genuis, the second crap and the third, aside from the begining is forgettable.

That and Michael Caine.  Other than those to aspects, the third film is a piece of shit.  I absolutely love the first one and genuinely enjoy the second.  Goldmember was awful though, which doesn't bode well for the fourth entry.  Here's hoping that they have a fun take and some new material...............but I doubt it.

Agreed.

And just to echo...love the original, hate #2 and Goldmember has some really great moments (love the spy school flashback) but over all is just OK.

Sad I hoped The Love Guru had stopped Mike Myers once and for all.

The world does not need more Austin Powers. Not even 30 seconds of Austin Powers.

I am shocked and horrified anyone would want anymore Mike Myers anything.

Myers had his day in the 90s, it's over for him. I think he's better off starring in ensemble films like his appearance in Inglourious Basterds.

The only thing I think he'd do with an Austin Powers 4 is play himself frozen in 1997 then unthawed in 2012 realizing how pointless an Austin Powers sequel is by that time.

I've always thought Myers was funny.  More Austin Powers isn't the most necessary thing in the world but you could do a lot worse.  And I'm not calling for a darker take- just the fact that a new director could inject a little more originality into the situation.

OSS 117.

*Drops mic.*

I'm curious why anyone would think the second is the worst? Graham is the only Powers-Girl Powers has any chemistry with. Hurley is just boobs and Beyonce is obviously trying hard to "act". 3 has many great scenes and the Goldmember character is so much better than Fat Bastard, but it's just too much at times. Britney Spears and Spielberg should not have been in there.

Yeah, and he absolutely has to parody the Craig Bonds. Make fun of the grittiness.

They could get parody mileage out of Casino Royale.

-The bathroom fight from the opening sequence

-The parkour stuff

-The ball torture

-The card game for the Aston Martin (Austin thinks he's going to win a beautiful car, turns out to be a piece of shit)

The ball torture, of course, they'll do that. And from Quantum:

- dead girl covered in .. fluid
- bad guy forced to swallow said fluid
- Quantum becomes... Cuntum
- he'll dump someone in a dumpster (probably Mini-Me)

Quantum of Swallows

...

I got nothing.

Licence To Shag.

For Your Thighs Only, Baby.

Shagraker

Yeah, I'm out of ideas.

I wouldn't doubt if they go with "Cuntum". Seems like something they could get away with. I mean there's the FOCKERS, why not Cuntum?

Try as I might, I can't see this as a movie as much as the dawn of the Second Dark Age of Shitty Austin Powers Impersonations.

On her Majesty.....

Never Say Never again Baby!

Wombraker

Dr Oh Behave

Live and Let Shag

I'm going to stop now before someone actually uses these.

So did he spend all his Shrek money?

I want him as Pennywise the Clown.

Myers was great in Inglorious Basterds. He should be looking for supporting character roles. Maybe it seems better to be the star, but he could end up being in better movies.

Did 54 burn him that much?

I think it did, and it's a shame. Everyone was trashing the movie, but it seemed like it was more less agreed that he gave the "oh thank GOD he's back" performance.

The first Wayne's World and Austin Powers were great comedies. Myers certainly knows how to create memorable characters but with The Love Guru he really only made him an Indian Austin Powers. I honestly think he's scared to get burned again by creating a NEW character which is why he's going back to something safe that he knows works. Still, I would've preferred to finally see a Sprockets movie but I guess that character is mostly forgotten.

This is the time in the thread in which we dance.

Christ, it was one funny movie - one!

I haven't seen these movies in a good 8 years or so. Was thinking maybe I should watch them after finally seeing all the Bonds, but I don't really want to.

Yeah... CAT & THE HAT 2: The Cat Came Back

I'll bet the farm that in this new movie, Austin travels back in time to the 1980's.   Oh, the hilarity of Austin in a world of AIDS-scare abstinence and glasnost and rap.  Madonna can indeed cameo as herself.

I'm gonna have to say no.  No, it doesn't.

Actually this causes shrinkage. So much in fact, if you kiss me, I get a blow job as well. Wait, that's good!

No not happy.

I think he's going to lampoon stuff like Bourne movies. Which would have gotten me excited if only this never happened.

I'm not a fan of Get Smart (2008), although it did have a great cast, so I think there is still plenty to be mined when it comes to parodying the Bourne and Bond reboot films...............................though I'm not very confident that this will be the film to do it either.

Even more meta:  cast Lady GaGa as Madonna.

The first Austin Powers was funny, I guess. But after that first movie, the shtick was over-done and painful to watch.

Absolutely goddamn right. The OSS 117 films are the only Bond spoofs I need. They're amazing, and amazingly funny all while feeling like a 60s era Connery Bond film.
