New in town.

Just moved to the Johns Creek area.  Looking for some good restaurant recommendations in the Duluth, Johns Creek, and Alpharetta areas.  I'm especially hungry for some Italian or Indian.

There seems to be a lot to do here, but I don't know where to start.  I've made it down to the Landmark Midtown once so far (to see Beginners, of course) -- what's up with Atlanta having so few (or just the one?) independent cinemas?  We need a Landmark on the north side of the city.

OK, you know I live here right? First of all, Sugo. Best restaurant in Atlanta. They also have a joint called The Iberian Pig in Decatur. Amazing.

For breakfast, Egg Harbor in John's Creek is good but you HAVE to eat at the Flying Biscuit.

Steak? Pampas Argentinian in John's Creek.

Pizza? Allessio's here, in the city either Double Zero or Antica.

Since you're local why not join us for Don't Be Afraid next Wed and drinks after?

Yeah, I knew you were close by -- and I thought about dropping you a PM or something, but then I thought maybe it would seem presumptuous.  I'm here by me lonesome more or less - I have a friend in Marietta, but she's husbanded and babied and works 10 hour days.  I teach in higher ed so I avoid the 8 to 5 thing.

I noticed both Egg Harbor and The Flying Biscuit and was intrigued by both.  Thank you for the steak and pizza recs -- I would've been shooting in the dark otherwise.  I'm trying to compile a list of places to try once I actually have visitors.

Chewers are going to see Don't Be Afraid of the Dark nearby?  Like an "anyone can show up and we'll talk to you" thing?

By the way, I'm windoverthelea on twitter.  I think we spoke over there once.

Atlanta's got a number of art cinemas, though Landmark is actually one of the corporate ones. There is also The Tara in Buckhead, which is a 4-screen joint that will often nab the really esoteric stuff, and more foreign films. The only true independent theater is the non-profit The Plaza theater, which is where you'll catch your 80s gore screenings, art shows, Friday Rocky Horror, and cooler indie films. Georgia State also has Cinefest, which is a dinky little theater that will occasionally pick up something cool. These are all obviously downtown.

Anyone who REALLY knows me knows that I tend to open my doors and invites to a lot of readers because usually this site attracts great real-world people. I would love for you to come see DBAOTD next Weds. Email me and remind me and I'll put a pass aside.

I figured there HAD to be more.  Sucks that they're all 30+ minutes from me.  Granted, that's better than 4 hours and 200 miles, but it's hard to head off down to one by myself, yanno?

Well, I guess that's the thing....I didn't want to presume that I REALLY know you even though I know well your open invitations.  It's probably a projection of my own shyness more than anything.

You're at least pretty close to the Studio Movie Grill on Holcomb Bridge Road.  They will have a cool event screening now and then.  RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK this Thursday night (for $1!), for example.  They're also showing FORBIDDEN PLANET that night.  At the SAME TIME, frustratingly.

I live a couple of blocks from The Plaza, so that's my usual movie hangout.  Give a shout if you're considering something down here, and I might be around.  I'm el_gray on the Twitters.

Indian?!

Heh depends on how your bowels can handle it.

Duluth area? Check out Zyka and order the Chicken 65.

If you can hit up Perimeter Mall area, check out Bombay Grill (it's not the same exit though). While the atmosphere is terrible, their food is decent. I guess it depends how ethnic you want to go.

Oh and welcome to Georgia.

PS: I can vouch that Nick is a pretty welcoming guy.
