ANOTHER RAMBO FILM MIGHT BE KILLING ITS WAY TO US

In this one, Rambo's enemy would be Social Security

Rambo can get by without a good screenplay. I would actually be fine with that Conan writer working on it and fine with it being "Stallone's Unforgiven", as long as the movie also has scenes of Rambo fighting Mexican drug cartels and/or (preferably AND) monstrous DNA experiments.

"After finally returning home to America at the end of Rambo, we see the titular character in his new position as a small town sheriff who comes into violent conflict with a drifting Iraq war vet. Hilarity ensues."

I'll bet you anything that Stallone ends up doing it as his Expendables II follow-up.  If I were Sly, I'd agree to do it on the condition that they finance Poe.

Does it strike anyone as a little... ominous that Stallone and Schwarzenegger are both doing movies called The Last Stand?

I really hated the idea of Stallone doing Rambo as a sci-fi film and the idea of him fighting the cartel, but if they really do want to try and go the Unforgiven route, I'd be all for this. The thing I really liked about the last film is that it kind of felt like the character from First Blood mixed with the action of First Blood Part II. That last shot of Rambo walking the long road home, paralleling his opening walk in First Blood was great, and felt like an ending, however I could definitely see a film about Rambo readjusting to life in the states and coming to terms with his age and the violence being pretty good. As long as they treat Rambo as a character as seriously as they did in First Blood, this could have potential.

Or maybe it should all be left alone and this is just me being thankful as shit that Rambo won't be fighting some kind of sci-fi monster. What a terrible idea that was.

Yeah, that "monster" idea was going to be based off the novel Hunter by James Byron Huggins...............which Stallone has owned the rights to for years.  I'm glad he changed his mind and just went back to wanting to do Hunter as its own film at some point.  I believe the Mexican Cartel plot involved sex trafficking, which Sly abandoned after Taken pretty much tackled the same thing.

I'm open to another entry, so long as they can actually get Sly to come back.  If not, they either need to go the prequel route (which Stallone himself has suggested) about Rambo's time in Vietnam..................or just leave it be.  There is no way that recasting Stallone for a sequel would go over well.  I think Stallone will do if it the story excites him enough and I suspect it does considering it seems that he's the one that apparently suggested it.  That said, if Rambo is to be the film entry in the franchise, then it is a fitting one.

If we get another one, I'd like it to be a marriage of the first and fourth films.  The character of First Blood and the "ugliness" of Rambo.  Hell, the above suggested type of tale that finds John in almost an inverse situation of the original film wouldn't be a bad idea.  I wouldn't want him as a sheriff, but I could see him standing up against some type of menace (whatever it may be) to save the community around him...............possibly losing his life in the process.  A US-based tale is the best route to go though.  We don't need another man-on-a-mission film.

Again, I won't be surprised if Sly does this.  He only has a handful of projects in the works.....................Poe, Hunter, a Death Wish remake, a potential third Expendables flick..................none of which seem extremely close to getting made.

I must be the only one who wants to see Rambo fighting some mutant creature. Although, all I really want to see is Stallone as Rambo again. As long as Sly is back up on the screen bringing the carnage, I'll be there.

Part of my brain wouldn't mind watching John J. Rambo best some genetically altered beastie, but the rest of it disagrees.  As fun as it might be, I'd rather Sly just do a straight adaptation of Hunter if he still has the longing to bring that tale to the screen.

I always sort of hoped he'd do a Godfather: Part II where the film would represent two parallel storylines with the "rise" of Rambo and the "fall" of Rambo. Show a young Rambo going off to Vietnam and mirror it with Rambo now on his last mission.

I enjoyed the idea of old Rambo battling some werewolf-beast. However, that may be more because I doubt another quality movie could be mined from the franchise than the caliber of the idea itself. After all I'm one of those people that don't hate Jason X...
