Trust me on this, just keep scrolling down. And keep a clean pair of underwear nearby.

I tried doing google translate but that didn't work so I post again when I can find a translation.

I'm pretty sure, translated, it's an ad for Korean heart medication.

At least it's daylight.

Jesus Christ, guy.  Thanks for linking that, I think.  :)

There has never, ever been a more apt title for a thread.

2011 Mystery Sketch Bong-Cheon-Dong Ghost

The story is based on true personal accounts.

It was probably around 11:20 at night. I was heading home after long, tiring night-study sessions. But I didn't see anybody around that day, which was weird, since the apartment complex is pretty big and I usually see a lot of people even at night.

Anyways, I was a little scared so I was just walking while looking down on the ground,

when I saw a shadow stretching towards me. Even though there had been no one around just a moment ago.

When I looked up..

I saw a woman walking in front of me. But it just didn't look right.

I could say she looked slightly indisposed.. She was limping pretty hard.

She was walking very slow, and I soon caught up with her. I was able to see her even better up close.

She was wearing dirty pink pajamas.. and it looked like every joint in her body was twisted. Her hair was a mess and sticking out in every direction.

It seemed really weird, so I stopped walking.

I felt like I shouldn't get any closer to her, and I didn't have the guts to pass by her.

[The ghost turns around.]

They say when you're really surprised, you can't even scream. I couldn't move, and just froze there.

"Where's my baby?"

Her question made my thoughts race..

I don't even know why I did it then.. And it still scares me.

I pointed as far as I could and answered.. "O, over there."

I just wanted her to get away from me.

She limped towards the direction I pointed to..

And I couldn't see her anymore.

I didn't want to risk running into her again, so I tried to turn around quickly and leave the apartment complex.

I couldn't think of anything but to get to some place where there'd be people around.

Then

"She is not there!" [The ghost runs towards you.]

I don't remember anything afterwards. I heard that my neighbor found me passed out on the ground and took me home.

In 2007, at an apartment in Boncheon-Dong, Gwna-Ak-Gu, Seoul, a 33-year-old woman jumped off the apartment and died on the spot. Jo, who was divorced due to her affair, had lost the custody of her daughter and decided to kill herself.

She was seen walking around the apartment complex many times after her suicide. She was barefoot and wore the pajamas she was wearing when she died; every join in her body was twisted, and she was an awful sight.

You weren't there man!

Maybe it was because I was still half-asleep, but all it did was startle me a bit.  I had no idea what was coming either.

It made my skeleton literally leap out of my skin. McNooj, I think you should be in The Expendables 2.

It was a pretty cool comic, and a creepy effect. But being that it was Asian, I was bracing myself for some kind of horrific tentacle-involved sex crime.

Hey buddy, that's Japanese weirdness. This is Korean, GET IT RIGHT!

You assholes! I haven't been that scared since the damn bed scene from the Don't Be Afraid of the Dark trailer!

That fucking noise is what really did it.

I didn't even have my headphones on and it still creeped me.

I just drank 3 cups of very caffeinated tea before seeing that. HOLY shit I can't believe my heart didn't explode.

I jumped with my heart in my throat. Like a mofo.

I'm with mcnooj on this one. I thought it was pretty cool, but according to the internet this is the most worstest scariest thing EVAR!

The first one made me jump because I was worried about my computer.

I was thinking about putting together a Halloween article about the creepiest webcomics, metafiction, or movies on the internet, and I've got about ten good examples (like The Enigma of Amigara Fault). This one wouldn't make the cut, so if it's scaring the shit out of people, I might be in good shape.

I'd never heard of the Amigara Fault thing until today.  I wish I had gotten to read it with no idea that it was creepy.  I kept expecting some jump scare punchline, but it's really just a cool creepy short story.  Dammit!

But thanks for pointing me in its direction, Trevor.

Yeah, just read Amigara Fault. The last two pages of that are infinitely creepier than that flash cartoon.

More, please.

Just read it as well. Awesome, kind of reminded me of Uzumaki manga series.

If you liked that one, you'll hopefully like my other favorites.

Loved that Amigara Fault story. Trev, can you give us a little taste of what's to come? Slow day at work.

Yeah that's an old classic. These things are SO cheap and easy, but I still love them, just like I love a well set up movie jump scare. Remember when people first started making these on the internet, great days.

All time faves include that old Cabin Fever teaser that I liked better than the actual movie (can't find on youtube but you can download here: http://movies.ign.com/articles/432/432008p1.html ), and "Kikia":

Nice work Trevor. The only one I'd really taken a look into before was Marble Hornets and to be honest after a solid start I lost interest pretty quick after about episode 3. WIth those found horror things I have to be able to forget they're contrived and almost all of them insist on reminding me.

Bedfellows and Creep from Fewdio were pretty nifty though.

Great article. I had totally forgotten about that caving thing, and look forward to revisiting it.

As for the rest of the stuff, I now know what I'm going to be doing in my spare time for the next few days.

Jump scares suck, you guys.

Hey Trevor - forwarded your article to the web design guys at my university's art department. When it comes to stuff like Ted's Caving Page, Dionaea House, Face All Red, and Marble Hornets - I tihnk it's a pretty neat use of the internet, sort of an epistolary novel, even and what makes them all effective (YMMV) and stand out from the rest is some pretty inventive designing that lures teh reader in to get at them in a more emotional place.

Finally got through most of the stuff you posted, though I will still have to look through the Marble Hornets. I already knew about it before the article, but gave up on it as most of the entries (I think I got up to #18) were too similar to really keep me going.

There's some great stuff in the article and I appreciate you pointing out the NoSleep podcast.

It is interesting that most of the written stuff out there (Ted's caving, Dionaea House, Correspondence, ect..) seems to have a more supernatural bent and along with it much more ambiguous endings. It is funny how ambiguity works with the supernatural a lot better than an explanation to what is going on. For example I read through The Alternate version of Ted's Caving Posted in the comments by Imtemp and it really did ruin the dread the site instilled in me even if this version of the story is questionable and possibly embellished upon by a fan of the site. Stange that a native american demon is much less frightening than an unseen and possibly imagined entity.

On the other hand, I find it interesting that if the story has a more realistic bent it still works. I took the time to read though the entire six episode saga of which Boxes was the third entry and found that the explanation of the events were a confirmation of the fears that I had while reading. Funny that I am much more disturbed by my fellow man than by a ghost or haunted house. Perhaps it's because I'm a skeptic and believe that there is nothing, however horrible or depraved it may be, that one person has not joyfully tried on another person against that person's will.

The supernatural can fuck off, it's the man on the street that scares me.

If you haven't already (though I'm 99.99% you already have) may I suggest you pick up the book House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. It has similarities to the Dionaea House story but with many more layers to uncover. Happy reading.

Also the NoSleep page is so big I don't know where to start. Could you recommend some more I could read?
My main problem with Marble Hornets is that it doesn't know when to end. Episodes 1-26 are a great run, I think, but they're clearly more concerned with stretching things out than telling a coherent story with a beginning, middle, and end. I love the format, though, and kinda wish some professional folks would take a crack at adapting it at some point.

Did you read the top no sleep entries for the year? That's a good place to start. The podcasts are good at picking effective stories, too.

As long as we're posting this sort of stuff...

The SCP Foundation is a collection of fiction about a global organization devoted to the containment of artifacts and creatures of varying levels of danger to the public or world at large. The conceit is most of the writing is done in the form of some elaborate formal reports and experiments regarding the variety of different things housed inside SCP facilities. Many are creepy. Some are silly. Some are downright horrific. My favorites are the eerie ones that involve some kind of exploration (like SCP-432: Cabinet Maze or SCP-093: Red Sea Object). There are also a number of notorious stinkers. I find that the TV Tropes page is a good starter place to find descriptions of interesting SCPs.

I would watch an anthology TV show about these.
