Back to the Future: The Game

I just started on this because I wanted to wait until all the episodes were available and then play through it all.

I didn't know what to expect, but I am very pleasantly surprised by this which plays very much in the vein of those great LucasArts and Sierra PC adventure games from the 80s and 90s. (More LucasArts than Sierra, because of its emphasis on humor)

Also, it does a good enough job with its storytelling aspects. With a compelling plot and really good voice acting, it actually feels like an animated sequel to the films. They worked really hard at capturing the look and feel of the movies and pulled it off very well.

I've played through Episode 1 - "It's About Time"

It's a little too easy. Particularly if you're really experienced with these sorts of games. (I turned off the hint option, to give me more of a challenge and it was still a cakewalk) But, despite that, a very enjoyable experience so far.

What's the consensus?

(Keep in mind I haven't played beyond Episode 1 so I'll appreciate if you invisitext spoilers. Thanks.)

I've played through chapter one, also.  I pretty much agree with you, though I did get stuck on one puzzle pretty good, and had to use all the hints, or look it up on the web or something (the bootleg hooch/pipe thing).

In short, it's fun!  I have the next three on my PS3 already, and look forward to playing through them.

Yeah... The segment inside the Soup Kitchen is the most complicated part of the episode due to the fact that it's a series of complex, vague things that you have to do and it isn't clear off the bat. Particularly if you went in without Emmett and expected there to be a point.

I just finished Episode 2. It's better and has some unexpected twists. The puzzles have more ingenuity to them.

I really like how they tie it to the movies, stylistically. But I do have a quibble. It seems they have completely ignored the character of Clara Clayton as well as the ending of Part III and I wonder why. Unless things get somewhat clarified in future episodes. But there is no mention of her, or the kids or the train...

I can see how ignoring that simplifies things and brings it back to basics. (The fans really just care about the DeLorean) But it's the one detail that keeps it from truly feeling like an interactive sequel.

That aside, I'm really glad they made this series of games and am already hoping they make a new "season" of episodes down the line.

I still wish they'd do a Back to the Future game that wasn't a click around game.  This was fun I suppose, but I'm just not a big fan of the type of game TellTale does.

I have to say Episode III was kind of disappointing. Too short, really. And the "gameplay" essentially boiled down to wandering around Hill Valley and having conversations. I liked the premise of the episode, but was just a bunch of interactive cut scenes strung together to advance the story. Reminded me a bit of Part III in Snatcher.
