DAN AYKROYD BELIEVES GHOSTBUSTERS 3 WILL SHOOT IN SPRING 2012 WITH OR WITHOUT BILL MURRAY

If Bill Murray isn't part of it, is it worth doing? Methinks not.

..and I might show up to work tomorrow with or without pants.

Hell, his best friend being dead didn't stop him from pissing on the guys grave with John Goodman in tow - why should Murrays lack of interest stop Ackroyd from further whoring out his legacy?

Making a bad movie isn't the same thing as pissing on Belushi's grave. I think for the most part Aykroyd's always been respectful. As for GHOSTBUSTERS 3, good for him if he really thinks he has a project worthy of the first film. Do we have to be cynical at just the anouncement of a script?

Have you seen that fuckin movie? Belushi may have preferred the urine option if given the choice.

...and I'm sorry, cashing in your once great legacy - especially one of the most beloved parts of it - to make a shitty remake/sequel/knockoff a decade after the man who was 50% of the originals success is dead and he can't object?

I'll take "pissing on your friends grave" for $100 thanks Alex.

Any cynicism present was well earned in 1989.

I am a pretty hardcore GB fan. Posters for both films adorn my walls. I have a model replica Ecto -1. I also have all the action figures as well as a replica PKE meter (if only I had that when i was 6, my young mind would have been blown). As for GB3...I would like to see them give it a go. GB is my all time favorite movie (clearly) and while GB2 certainly has its moments, it is nowhere near the classic of the first film. If Ray Stantz really thinks the script is good enough to at least be comparable to the second film...I say go for it. I'll see it either way. If it sucks, I can forget it even exists (much like Indy IV or Men in Black II).

Also, the idea of Egon being too fat to wear a proton pack is just too good.

I'm with 99. The first two films mean far too much to me in order to not see this film. Now I have till early 2012 to find a way to work on this film.

I'll believe when they're actually shooting the damn thing.

You know it my man. Can you imagine his bigass sliding down that pole? Boy I sure hope they get McLovin to be Egon Jr.

I love how in some people's minds the success or failure of this movie depends on Bill Murray's involvement. We have guys that haven't been funny in decades trying to cash in on a 27 year old success. Always a good start. Couple that with the fact that they ALREADY shit the bed trying to do this 22 years ago with Bill Murray while they were still reasonably young and relevant... please explain how it could possibly be anything other than a terrible sequel that ends up as unfunny as it's washed up writers/creators... It seems like everyone is hoping they accidentally make a good movie. It's sad.

It could work with a good enough script.

Anything can work with the right script and talented comedians.

Ghostbusters is dead. The original was a classic the sequel was a dud.

Aykroyd as has been clearly said in this thread already is desperate.

Whats next The Great Outdoors 2 with Kevin James instead of John Candy?

Hasn't stopped Hollywood from regurgitating other dead franchises. I'm just curious to see what they come up with. The least they would get out of me is a $9.00 movie ticket.

If it's good, then I will happily clump it together with the other two films to make it a decent trilogy.

If it's terrible, I will simply erase it from my memory along with the others I choose to forget: Indy IV, Men in Black II, Matrix 2 & 3, Batman and Robin, Blues Brothers 2000, Star Wars Eps 1 and 2, Caddyshack 2, The Next Karate Kid, Star Trek V, Dumb and Dumberer, Speed 2, etc.

Not sure who here has played the video game but it makes a very decent sequel to the first two films. It's a really well done game and it's amazing to hear all the actors return to their roles. What's even better is being able to catch ghosts with the original crew. A very worthy sequel.

Anyways, I have been hearing this same GB3 news for the past few years. Not going to believe it until my ass is in that theater and I can hear Ray Parker Jr.'s theme blast through the speakers. Also, here's hoping it's not a complete disaster.

Akroyd's has been promising that Ghostbusters 3 was right around the corner longer than Vin Diesel has been promising Riddick: The Underversening.  Just make it already.

Or don't.  The Saturday morning cartoon was a better sequel than Ghostbusters 2, and the syndicated weekday afternoon cartoon improved on that.  I saw enough Ghostbusters sequels in a five year period at the end of the 80's to feel like I've still got all bases covered vis-à-vis the continued adventures of Peter Venkman and Company.

It's a we're too old for this shit, let's hand it all over to a younger generation movie. Even if the original cast did show up, they would either disappear for the last third (lame), or show up and save the day at the very last second (corny).

I think Ernie Hudson has Aykroyd's soul in a briefcase, and the only way he gets it back is if GB:3 happens. Bill Murray knows this, and laughs his ass off every single day.

Adam i am also a hardcore GB fan and as such I really hope they never make this film. The time has long past.

Said it before, and I'm gonna keep pleading till they kill this: Make another game, where there's time to polish it, and where Murray's awake in the voice acting booth. You'd all be done in a week, nobody has to get their fat asses in a proton pack for real. The world will not think lesser of you for it. PLEASE.

I will never understand Hollywood's reluctance to cross streams. On paper, the idea of a Ghostbusters 3 just doesn't stand up on its own. So mix it with some other franchise. Have them meet the similarly-out-of-gas Men In Black. Maybe they can meet the Monster Squad. Freddy, Jason and Ash are still out there.

Obviously there are company rights to worry about, but the main reason people don't do this is because "Ohhhh, we're worried about our braaaaaand!" Which is such bullshit. Take a risk sometime. Ghostbusters will survive. Freddy will survive.

Just mash some shit together, who cares? It's a better idea than a predictable "we're too old, meet the new guys" Ghostbusters 3. Which EVERY SINGLE PERSON is expecting.

Gospel.  Anyone who really wants this to happen is a glutton for punishment.

What I see is... the director of Evolution, My Super Exgirlfriend and Six Days Seven Nights simply doesn't qualify for a Ghostbusters 3.

Even if 27 years ago, he did Ghostbusters.

If they're actually ready to start shooting in a few months with or without Murray, doesn't that sort of suggest that even if he's in it, his role will be negligible?

If they have a completed script, my ass is a banjo.

The story that's been going around for years is that a number of parties have to agree in order for another Ghostbusters movie to happen: Sony (then Columbia/Tri-Star), Reitman, Ramis, Aykroyd and Murray. And Murray's been the hold out. For years.

Don't know why after years and years of telling them, "No!" Murray would suddenly have a change of heart. He's made it very clear in various interviews he's not into the idea because of how Ghostbusters II, like it or lump it, turned out and Aykroyd has been regurgitating the same claims for the last decade.

A year from now, he'll say the exact same shit for the umpteenth time and everyone will pretend like its brand-new news like they've never heard it before.

It's obvious that Aykroyd really wants a big comeback, more than anyone else, as Ramis and Reitman are just in for the sake of it and Murray has a rather splendid career. I think what Murray despises more than anything is the fact that he'd have to do huge promo for the movie, be asked a lot of questions about a franchise he actually, in spite of the cult, never saw as that amazingly awesome as others do. Even in the first he already gave the impression he was not really giving a serious fuck about the flick. Just about banging all production assistants and maybe Sigourney Weaver. And the Gozer woman. I'm sure he's just extremely lazy and tired of all the Ghostbusters enthusiasm. The videogame showed that he's game as long as contribution doesn't take too long.

What I dislike the most is that everyone always underplays Ernie Hudson's role. He's almost never named, which is a shame. He was a full member in both movies and seems to be a funny, humble and down-to-earth guy all around, and he'd be ready in costume to play his role in two minutes. Hell, he'd be down to play Winston Zeddemore in your wedding video.

As the Internet's resident Ghostbusters aficionado, I can say without hesitation or exaggeration, that this never ever EVER needs to happen.

i REALLY wish aykroyd would hang up the idea for a third film and work with IDW to turn his original, wacko spec scripts for GB1, 2 and 3 into graphic novels.
