WOULD YOU BE EXCITED TO WATCH AN EDDIE MURPY-HOSTED OSCARS?

Let me tell you something once and for all, Eddie Murphy was good, but compared to Billy Crystal, Eddie Murphy ain't shit!

Murphy's films have been dogshit for a while now, but I do find the idea of him doing something that's technically closer to stand up pretty appealing. Still, there is a good chance it'll be just as boring and sterile as his film roles.

What's great about this is that Crystal can't stand Murphy, which, from a lot of what I've read, would put him in line with approximately 84% of Hollywood. Really, I give about as much of a shit about this as Murphy does his career.

It's been a long time since I placed any credibility on the voting so the only things which interest me about the next Oscars are Kate Winslett's dress, the odd acceptance speech and the hosting and I tend to enjoy that whether it's good or whether it's a train wreck.

So I'm for it.

Bring back Crystal it seems to be the only thing the man has been good in for years.

Murphy is such a sad sad tale. Its like a blueprint for young comics to not follow.

Cocaine, bad managers, falling out with John Landis, terrible taste in scripts from Coming to America on.

The man perfected the vanilla recipe perfectly.

I liked Bowfinger but that was a fluke.

What, Ratner isn't getting his bud Chris Tucker another $20 Million dollar payday to host the Oscars? I'd actually watch the Oscar broadcast if Eddie Murphy played blue. Given some of his early standup, especially Raw, it'd be awesome to watch those Hollywood folk's eyes bug out of their heads during Eddie's standup!

We're still gonna be hearing Vilanch's jokes, so either way, we're screwed.

Only if you actually watch the thing. Me, I just see who won the next day, and if there are any standout moments, they are usually on YouTube.

Maybe if the year was 1983. It's hard to believe there was a time when he was one of the biggest stand up comedians around.

Delirious/Raw Eddie Murphy?  Fuck yes.

Norbit?  Fuck naw.

I'd rather see Charlie host it.

I think the Ricky Gervais fiasco proved that genuinely edgy humour has no place in the Tinseltown hosting business. Maybe Murphy's playing nice so he can finally get that long-awaited Pluto Nash sequel?

We're probably only going to get "I Meant You No Harm," but I'm still gonna hold out hope for "[Eddie]'s Got Soul". Bonus credit if Murphy drops his pants without permission.

Why?  R-rated Murphy wont be allowed anyway, which is the only version of him that was worth watching.

2 years ago this could have killed. Murphy could have been done up like his female character from Norbit and spent the entire telecast quoting lines from Precious Based on the Novel Push By Sapphire. KILLED.

Oprah would have had him executed.

I'm for it just for the sake of novelty. I'd like to see what he does with the gig.

Eddie Murphy is a strange beast. It's hard to believe - and maybe even impossible for anyone who wasn't around then - that he absolutely fucking owned the first half of the 80s. The only entertainer at the time bigger was Michael Jackson.

In a five-year period, this man became arguably the greatest cast member in SNL history, delivered one of the greatest stand-up specials of all time (if not the greatest, Delirious is certainly my favorite), and starred in three classic comedies.

I'm not sure if there's anyone in entertainment history who has fallen so hard and so far.

Despite two decades of unrelenting suck, I'm always willing to give Murphy the benefit of the doubt because of how truly great he once was.

Edit: Looks like it's official.

It can't possibly be any worse than this year's Oscars.  I've been watching the Oscars since the early 90s (mostly as background noise) and last year, as far as I can recall, was the absolute worst time I have had watching it.  They should have just paid Hugh Jackman whatever he wanted to do it again.

Maybe finally, it's comeback material for Murphy. The sloppy Tower Heist most likely won't be.
