The Rats crawl in, the Rats crawl out

All this talk about a Willard remake has me wondering... what ever happened to the Fox movie of the week about rats in NYC? They showed ads for it last fall, but it was postponed due to the events of 9/11. I thought they would have aired it by now. Anyone know anything about it? I think the title was RATS. (Catchy and original, isn't it?)

Dunno.

I do wish someone would do an adaptation of 'Domain' by James Herbert. It was part of a 'Rat Trilogy' he wrote. I suppose the entire thing would make a great miniseries for HBO or something.

Things go from bad to so much worse throughout the course of this trilogy...

The Rats, Lair and Domain are awesome books. I remember always wanting to see the movie of The Rats, but I never thought it could do it justice. I was ten years old when I first read it, and it was my first real introduction to the world of graphic horror and sex by authors like Herbert, King et al that sucked me in. A film now would be great.

You all may remember me posting about a rat movie that I worked on last year. It was called "Tara". I still don't know what happened to that one. Smiling Jack says that he thinks that it is called "Hood Rats" now and that it was going direct to video, but I have no clue about its release. We made several rat eaten people on that one, as well as several body parts, a head that a rat would come out of the mouth, and a burnt head. I never went on set for this one, so there's not much more to tell than it stars Isaiah Washington and Guy Torry.

Well, I'm amazed that Fox finally got around to showing Rats.

Although no official announcement was ever made, I believe it was originally bumped due to the events of Sept. 11th.

Almost anything that had to do with violence or horror on any level - even if it had nothing to do with terrorism - got pulled off TV around then and that included Rats.

Well, in defense of Fox, I think the movie takes place in NYC. And who wants to think about New York's rat problem when there's a bigger tragedy going on?

Plus, there was a few weeks there where every channel had news news news instead of regular shows.

"Adult situations"?! Shit, can't watch this one now...

I'm still collecting opinions on 'Rats: A Night of Terror' - which hit DVD a little while back - before I actually shell out 3 bucks to rent it. Any good?

Hey, I just watched The Rats and I have to say - this is for the vermin lover in you! Oh my God what a gem of rat-tacular mayhem!

This is a film so great that at one point they unleash literal geysers of rats! Let me repeat that - Gesyers...Of...Rats!

Yep, it features all the usual shortcomings of a TV movie - it won't win any awards for acting or cinematography, for example.

But it does pull out all the stops when it comes to depicting swarms of disease-carrying vermin.

And isn't that what really counts?

Plus, it's always good to see the ever-fetching Madchen Amick who manages to stay pretty even after falling into a pool of rats.

And for a TV movie, there were a couple of surprisingly bloody moments - we see an ear ripped off as well as the exposed rib cage of an unfortunate rat victim.

All in all, this might be my guilty pleasure of the year.

I agree on all counts. This thing had B-movie written all over it, but there was some great mahem and surprising effects and violence. Usually I'm less than impressed by CG effects, but the use here made sense. How else are you going to get geysers of rats, or a subway car covered with the little buggers?

This rates right up there with The Killer Shrews. No, I'm serious -- I liked that one too.

There were some rather obvious glass panels separating the rats from the victims who they were supposed to be crawling all over. Cheap.
