Actually this is not a surprise. These have been expected for a long time. They're supposedly part of a big bunch of photos of about 50 hollywood actresses that were being shopped around for a few months now.

If all these sorts of photos really are being "hacked" out of the phones of celebrities, why are any of them still taking private photos using a device where the data can be remotely accessed by persons unknown? Surely they have stand alone digital cameras, right? If phone hacking is a known threat for media figures, why would anyone take the risk? It makes no sense to me

But why would she need to do this for publicity? Isn't she pretty much an A lister now? I mean she sin't quite Julia Roberts territory but she isn't exactly some little indie darling. I get it when a lower level actress does it, and of course I understand someone who is only in the spot light from a reality show but someone like her? If the rumors are true then we might just see some Jessica Alba ones soon and I might actually believe this whole leaked story because why would Alba doing it? Shes in every 3rd movie. Wouldn't a girl of this status make way more money and get more publicity by taking it off in some movie?

And she seems like she's been dying to take it off in a movie.  She wanted to go topless for that sex scene in The Island because no woman is gonna leave her bra on while fucking, but Michael Bay vetoed it.

I wouldn't say she looks drunk, although that is kind of likely if she was sending someone pics on a whim and didn't want to take the time to upload, email, etc from a normal camera. I really doubt she'd leak them though. I don't really see her having anything to gain from it.

I honestly believe that this is only so much a problem as ScarJo makes it....if it was even an honest slip that she didn't want these out there to begin with. As leaked photos go, they are not of the embarrassing sort and pretty much verify what we all suspected/knew all along: This is one ridiculously gorgeous woman, in or out of clothing.

The "hacking" excuse often used in these sorts of situations is bullsheeeet. The only realistic way for photos like these to be made public is for someone in physical possession of her phone to send them.

 

Since there's no sane reason to keep around naked pictures of yourself for only personal viewing, let's all thank Scarlett for sharing!

 

Oh, and to state the obvious to girls everywhere: if you send naked pictures of yourself to a man, somewhere between 10 and 10 million men will see them.

I think it's possible that sometimes the hacking excuse could be legit, given what we learned with NEWS CORP (I agree that more often than not it's most likely a smoke screen though). Additionally, if one had an interest in photography it seems plausible they could take such photos without an intention to share them. It would hardly require an act of insanity

The hacking rumors have been going around for months. And considering that the initial names mentioned as being hacked have almost all turned up with stuff, they are pretty legit. There will definitely be more stuff coming. As I said earlier, the pack that was rumored as being shopped around had photos of about 50 actresses.

Wake up and smell the 21st century, folks.  Phones can get hacked.  It seems pretty clear to me that Johansson simply has a healthy sense of sexual play in her private life and those pix were meant for one lucky fella.

I'd be curious as to the actual %. I can't think of anywhere near 50 famous women who have nude photos show up online lately. And I'd like to think that's something I'd be aware of!

Voice of reason! There are some completely baffling responses in this thread and on the Internet writ large. Publicity stunt / She's hammered / she's a moron for doing this / Hope she's eighteen / etc. Strangeness! But I guess Scar Jo Ass will do that to people. She's young and sexually active. There are pictures of her naked, of course. If the paparazzi devoted the resources to hacking my phone (or most of anyone here, I'd imagine) they did to hers, we'd all have nude photos on the Internet. And be in prison.

I have no idea bout specifics, but apparently hackers are more focused an smartphones now than actual PCs. They're essentially mini computers. The "next big thing" for hackers.

 

If it's the same group linked above, then they probably have every photo on everyone's(who is famous) camera already.

The thing is, if you just blindly assume these actresses are maladjusted people with mass-attention seeking issues or short-sighted (and obviously unnecessary) career agendas to forward via a conspiratorial publicity stunt involving the release of (by Hollywood standards) unflattering nude pictures, then you're armed with implicit permission to look and jerk off! It makes doing a thing that's ultimately kind of fucked up into something you not only have the right to do, but by god have some level of duty to do.
