DRAGON TATTOO MARKETING RAMPING UP, AND THE MUPPETS ARE HELPING

The feel bad movie of Christmas gets some weird, felt cross-promotion.

Can't wait to see the Irreversible Parody!

Though Animal going to town with a fire extinguisher on someone would be pretty sweet.

Man, how I would love to be on the marketing team for this movie...

Considering how distasteful I find marketing culture, that's saying something.

Yeah, my sense is that marketing is kicking ass on this. I bet it goes over 200 million, more if it's good.

Yeah, it's going to be a monster.  It will be THE family film for the holidays.

For the record, re: Dragon Tattoo

Shit looks JUST LIKE the original movie.

I find that really, genuinely, hard to believe given that the original had all the aesthetic of a made for TV movie.

Even films by Fincher that I hate tend to look absolutely stupendous.

Love this trailer by the way, I genuinely can't wait for The Muppets to come out. I'm there opening day.

I should amend that - it looks like Fincher reshot the original stuff. But the locations look the same, the story, beat-by-beat feels familiar, even certain shots seem similar. I feel like Fincher doing a fetishistic serial killer Nazi drama seems like backtracking, so I'm very much against the idea on principle, but I was surprised how little of it diverted from the source. It's got the Fincher edge, the Fincher sheen - and the score sounds abrasive and industrial, which is cool - but otherwise, it feels more like part four of the Dragon Tattoo series.

Wait, so you've seen it?

Because I thought it was still in Post. It's not out for like three months.

No, I was referring to the eight minute trailer that I've seen, which pretty much set up the first two acts of Fincher's film.

I have heard they've changed the ending, that's the only thing that makes me interested in seeing this.

I don't know, I thought the original film was very weak, perhaps mainly for the reason that Blomkvist is played by a plank of wood (as a somewhat fan of the book, I found this the most disappointing, as he is genuinely charismatic and charming in the book, while Nyqvist acts as if he's suffering from a severe case of insomnia). Anyway, I'll stop derailing the thread and say that I have faith Fincher can tweak the source material to make it worthwhile.
