Comic Book Appraisal

I believe I posted on here last summer when my Uncle John passed away after an illness. As it happens, my uncle left behind a vast comic book collection, and I was wondering if anyone had advice on how to sell it. (Don't want to, but times are tough, etc.)

He has thousands of items, so I'm not sure the best way to sell. I guess there's eBay, and I also found a site called www.comicspriceguide.com that seemed pretty decent. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd be much obliged.

Are any of the books worth sending off to CGC?

Definitely, he had comics, hardcovers and memorabilia spanning across decades, including original X-Men, Fantastic Four and more. Frankly, it's a bit overwhelming, so any help is welcome. I'm guessing CGC or PGX is my best bet?

I would go to milehighcomics.com and look for what the white prices ($xxx.xx) are as well as the colored sale prices, usually blue or red I believe.

From that point I would begin deciding what I would feel is gradable to NM or M standards and then contact my local shop for a quick sale with the pricing info in your brain so you don't get ripped off.

Whatever is left over after that consider sending the top books for grading.  These books need to be worth in my opinion $125+ for slab consideration.  Once you have things slabbed then Ebay the hell out of them.

Mile High also keeps a list of books on their website that they are looking for because they need to fill in stock.  Check that list and see what they are offering for what you got.

Got a detailed list of what he had?  Might find Chewers interested.

The comics are on the other side of the state from me. It would probably take a week to inventory everything, but I can post that once I create it. (Mom is handling estate and hasn't touched the stuff.) Uncle John went to the comic shop every week for around 30 years, so there are definitely some gems in there. Thanks a ton for your help.

No problem.  I just checked the one book I have that I know is worth a bunch of money and the white price on it is $423.  I have seen it as high $800 on their site and regularly on Ebay for $1000.  One copy of it was graded at 10.0 and supposedly sold at auction in Feb '10 for $3000.  I believe I spent around $230-360 for the book many moons ago.  So maybe that will give you an idea of what to expect swingwise on prices.

I believe the speculator market has gone straight to shit unfortunately in the past year.  But I haven't been active in buying for over four years.
