Yet another McCarthy books finds its way on Franco's impossibly-filled schedule.

I am rather cool on FRANCO: I've enjoyed him in a few films, but I don't think his talent warrants the level of interest he generates. I'm not going to hold non film stuff like the OSCARS against him, but I saw a movie called HOWL, and let's just say that by the end of that movie's 2 hour running time I felt as if I'd gotten enough of a Franco fix to last me years to come. It was so abysmal that it was one of those infamous 'the emperor has no clothes' moments. I also think he failed to sell YOUR HIGHNESS, and was a bit of a drag on the movie.. though the script didn't help

With that said, he's alright, and he certainly does seem to tackle odd jobs with giddy abandon, so in that respect he remains interesting. Soap operas? Kink.com? Art installations so terrible they could be mistaken for the work of Andy Kauffman?

Whatever is going on it's clear he's 'aving a laugh, so good for him I guess. I am still not certain how serious he is about 90% of this stuff, as he just still doesn't strike me as a terribly deep individual.. but if we get one or two good or otherwise interesting projects out of the madness, well, I won't complain

Blood Meridian and Child of God are, to me, both standout works. I can't imagine Franco being in either of them so hopefully it stays in some directing/producing capacity. That said I'm curious where they go, especially Child of God. I mean it's no worse than a lot of the stuff that comes out to a bigger audience but it's a pretty rough cut slice of mountain folk and a really sad, forgotten man.

Still waiting for a proper Outer Dark movie.

James Franco is not a presence that excites me in anything.  Never has been.  I don't hate or outright dislike the guy, but I certainly don't get the apparent mass appeal either.  Still, I don't mind him as an actor......................but I do try to avoid reading or watching interviews with him as it is becoming increasingly clear that the man has crawled up his own ass for the time being.
