Supernatural (Season 7): Now With 100% More Jefferson Starships - Page 4

How did they not have Dean almost become Bobby's daddy? It was right there, Supernatural. Right there.

Still, I quite liked this episode, decent time travel story, Dean gets t be fun. Good times. Plus, having Ness and the lovely Sheriff Mills(watch your back, sister) around once again showed that having other characters is a good thing, which is a fact I think the show really wants to disprove.

Also like they finally explained the "god" situation. I swear it's like they read some complaint online because they have dealt with gods in the past and never felt the need to tell the audience about how they used to be invincible because they got their power from worship but now without they they are almost nothing. FINALLY! Always wondered why gods were often times glorified vampires. Also means that theoretically the Chrisstian god could suffer the same fate. Also means that Allah should be a pretty powerful guy right?

I don't know, Kali seemed kinda worried, and there are still a bunch of Hindus around.  And Ganesh got taken down pretty quick.

With the Hindu god thing, I just assumed it was a lot like the plot of American Gods. Each country or culture has their own set of gods, and their power and viability depends on how much that god is worshiped in that culture.

Since Supernatural takes place in the US, Ganesh wouldn't be as powerful here because he doesn't have many worshipers. In India of course, he (or another version of Ganesh) would be stronger and more powerful.

Back to this week's episode, I was surprised by how much I liked it too, though I feel bad that Sam/Jared mostly gets left out of these time travel episodes. Dean has time traveled four times vs. Sam's two.

But damn Dean looks fantastic in 40s era clothing. And yes, it's NICE seeing Sheriff Mills alive and useful.

It was nice seeing Dean get told about his emo ways by Ness. I just hope the writers did it as a signal to us that it's over for good.

Right now I'm reading Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition. It turns out Eliot Ness died a semi-drunk. I guess being a hunter took its toll on him.

Last nights episode was solid. I wish they didn't bring up Amy at the end. Nobody like that episode and it seemed like the show was going to act like it never happened. Dean was still being a tad emo. I thought hunting with Elliot Ness snapped him out of that funk.

"Where did you get this?"

"An old drunk genius"

"Yeah they always have the best stuff."

It looks like ghost Bobby is helping the brothers. I wish the recaps at the start of the show didn't show so much. By showing Bobby talking to the reaper they're telling the audience that Bobby is watching out for them. They could have kept the mystery going for awhile. It looks like I was wrong when I wrote that Dean just forgot he drank the whole beer.

Nice to see Mayor Wilkins (aka Harry Groener) pop up on Supernatural

Next week: killer unicorns!

Hunh, with a lot of the other supporting players dead, it would have been interesting to keep Emma around.  Hell as an Amazon, she's already got something of a leg up on the whole hunting business.  And she's technically family.

Agreed. Would have been nice to see Dean with a badass teenage daughter.

I would not want the angst and misery that would come along with Dean having another family member to protect. DNW.

I guess Bobby's spirit is attached to the flask then? This is so insulting. Bobby would never choose to stick around as a ghost.

As opposed to the existing angst and misery?

It would be even worse though. See; Season Six.

Fun episode tonight.

"So we have dick on Dick?"

That felt like old school Supernatural, in a good way. Nice to see Dean laughing again.

I enjoyed Sam's bad cop routine. Good misdirection with the kid and his overworked mom.

Ehh that was cute but Supernatural is starting to wear thin for me.

This was a ton of fun, and even I liked that they had Dean actually enjoying himself at the end there without actually having a *thing* about it (chick flick moment, on the hood moment, whatever). If they can't fix the main arc or the leviathan, give me quality filler all day long.

As far as filer goes, that was great.

these are the type of episodes that made me love this show from the beginning.  Its been so long that we might have forgotten but the early seasons were comprised mostly of stand alone episodes with hints of overarching storyline.  The show has gotten bogged down in its need to create a mythology for itself.

we need more episodes like this.

The amazon episode wasn't half bad either.

So it wasn't a horrible episode and yeah I kind of dig the idea of a guy enjoying posession but again felt very filler. I like going back and bringing some random demon from season 3 back but it would have been nice if they could of used one we actually saw before rather than one they made up.

Also I find it really weird that torture wasn't that big a deal. For the record I don't give a shit if Dean tortures a demon but didn't they dedicate a whole episode and half a season to anti-torture? There was an episode where Dean was brought in to torture Brando demon and we later found out it was a trick and that god would NEVER sanction torture. Then in season 6 when they are capturing creatures and torturing them Sam and Dean are disgusted and shut it down. That of course pisses off the one note nothing character "Mother of all" of course invoking war on terror blah blah.. So now we see an episode where Dean tortures a demon and Bobby did it in an episode too if I remember correctly. Oh Supernatural it's almost as if you don't give a fuck anymore and your coasting, grasping at whatever you can having lost the vision of the show...

Yeah, this is definitely the final season for me.

I did like that Lucifer was back. It seemed like Sam got rid of him too easily.

The show's stance on torture has always been muddled at best.  But there was a time back in seasons three or four when it was established that they had been rounding up demons and torturing them to try to get info on Lillith.  Can't remember the episode, but I think it opens with them torturing some demon, so that actually seemed like a nice bit of continuity for me.

This was a good episode - psycho killer in love with the demon that possessed him was pretty creepy, and Lucifer makes everything about 5 times more entertaining (loved the forked tongue), but I'm just not enjoying the dark, heavy episodes as much any more.  I'll take another light episode about killer clowns any day.

I enjoy edlund episodes fine but my experience is this site worships him. To me this is evidence that he is a bit overrated. I have never found him to be any better or worse than most of the rest of the crew.

Satan stuff cool. Nice to see demons back. But damn this felt so random.

It wouldn't surprise me if this episode was written quite a while ago. Maybe even a couple of seasons.

An alright concept improved once again by Edlund's ridiculously good ear for dialogue. Sorry to say this, but it really feels like it's time for him to jump ship.

Glad to see Lucifer back.

And see thats my other problem. It's not Lucifer. It's a figment of Sam's imagination pretending to be Lucifer, he isn't real. See when it first started I thought that it would be cool that since Sam was stuck in that cage with the both of them that maybe Sam had some kind of psychic Supernatural link with Lucifer now, I mean hell he is the vessel. So now maybe since Lucifer has nothing else to do he sits in his cage and fucks with Sam all day as his last bit of sick pleasure. But again that is not the case. Sam is mentally ill and Lucifer is basically "dark Sam" fucking with him. I already saw a beautiful mind, im not interested in this plotline anymore.

While things look bad for Frank, maybe he isn't dead. There wasn't a body. Yeah the Leviathans could have eaten, but I'm still using sound comic book logic.

Maybe the Leviathans plan is like Jasmine's plan on Angel. They want to give people a better world, yet they wouldn't really be free. Or curing cancer is a why to give the human race a false sense of security. Than they enslave a healthy human race.

Maybe eating a human with cancer is deadly for Leviathans. Sort of, you are what you eat. Any other theories?

By the way, the first half of the episode played like a tribute to Friday the 13th: The Series. (Cursed objects from an antique shop doing harm to the owners.)

I'm getting more of a "fattening the calf" vibe than anything from this.

And I'd like to hope that the ballet shoes were a "The Red Shoes" reference.

That whole scene where they wrestled the dancing shoes off the little girl was SO GREAT. Fun little episode that tied into the major arc of the season quite neatly I thought.

Part of me was kind of hoping that the shop with all the cursed objects would be tied into the old Friday the 13th tv show.

Wasn't bad, Hope the new angle with the creatures stays interesting. Looks like Castiel and Meg are back next week.

I'm kind of coming around on this season. I've liked most of the standalone's, they Amy thing sucked, but only lasted 2 or 3 episodes, the leviathans aren't terrible (but they're not that present for a group that supposed to have infiltrated everything), and IMO, they've handled the Sam stuff well enough (Pelligrino helps. A LOT). I think it's certainly better than season six, which was really only partially redeemed by  "the Man who would be king" and the last five minutes of the finale

It's absolutely getting long in the tooth, but I'm enjoying what I'm seeing. I wouldn't mind season eight, but I'm hoping they have an endgame in mind.

As for tonight, maybe it's because I don't love Cas that much, but I really liked how they brought him back, his interaction with Dean and Meg (what was up with her face, she was looking kind of weird, I couldn't quite place it) and his redemption/solution at the end. I could have sworn I've seen somewhere that he's coming back for 1 or 2 more episodes, so this probably isn't it, but it was nice way to bring him back without overshadowing Sam and Dean, fangirls be damned.

As for Sam, as I said above, Pelligrino is the shit, and was having a ton of fun with the role. I liked his story with the girl, just a simple ghost story (I was waiting for her to turn out to be a leviathan, I'm happy that wasn't the case - I think), and Padelecki, who's usually the weak link of the cast, was actually pretty decent. Hopefully, that's it for the wall, and his soul....hopefully...

Also, I'm assuming Bobby is a ghost and was the one hooking Dean up with the phone number? Actually, I worry a bit about where they're going with that....

Looks like Rachel Miner has been on the pies and pies diet

still would

It was a solid episode, but I thought Lucifer was just kinda annoying. I didn't see how that could drive someone insane.

"Its just like riding a bike."

"I don't know how to do that either."

My guess is God heals Cas. It wouldn't be the first time.

I'm going to say that the Big G is going to make an appearance in the last episodes or even the finale.    The fact that Cass is back from the dead and his wife was told by God to rescue him all point to that.   I would even say the disappearing beer and the business card are God's doing and not Bobby's.   Another prediction.   God will take the form of......wait for it......Bobby.

As for Rachel Miner, she's seen better days.....

I think never being able to sleep would probably make you crazy after a while.

If I can sleep though jack hammers, I can sleep though some dude being a tool.

Thats a smart call dynamo.

I liked these last two episodes.  I really enjoyed the cursed object episode and its old school SUPERNATURAL vibe...I also didn't even totally mind the Leviathan B-Story that came out of it.  What I don't understand is why the henchman Leviathan was scared of the Winchesters at all?  All of a sudden they hold a sword to his neck and he backs down?

Anyway, I like the wrinkle as to the Leviathan's overall plan.  maybe they are trying to make Dick Roman out to be the anti-christ?  If you go biblical, the anti-christ is initially supposed to be mistaken as the savior of humanity duping the weak into following him, only to be totally pwned by JC when he really comes back...so maybe this is once again setting up the ultimate macguffin device to end the show being the appearance of God.

As for Cas's return.  Great setup.  Great execution.  But it all seemed kinda wasted having Cas locked up in the insane asylum.  I imagine they are going to revisit Meg's angle in all of this and have her come back with a crazy Angel on  a leash or something wild like that.  And yes, Rachel Miner is almost unrecognizable.

I really hope this puts to rest the intolerable "Sam has a problem" storyline this show loves to push on its viewers.

I totally dug this episode, though I have to disclose I'm a Michamigo.  I thought the Big Moose knocked it out of the park in the acting category and Cas's role was great, I had no problem with Ms. Miner.  More to the point, I like what they're setting up.  Sam is back, the effects of the cage weren't consequence free, but they've been dealt with.  Other shit is still going on, and their nuclear option (Cas) isn't an option.  Makes a showdown with the Leviathan an entertaining thought.

Yeah, sleep deprivation strips your nervous system of it's insulation or something along those lines - there's some kind of protein(?) coating that disintegrates and the electrical pulses start running up the wrong pathways, which is why he was jumping everytime there was a sudden noise - it would have been registering as something akin to being stabbed with a needle or outright electric shock. It's not a matter of fighting it with manly willpower once your body starts physically breaking down as a result of a week or two without sleep.

Jackhammers are a regular noise. It's random/irregular noises that are the killer because there's a part of your brain waiting for the next bit of the sequence. But all that said, if you can sleep through jackhammers, see a doctor and get your hearing checked because your ears are still getting blasted even if your brain's at rest. If you're wearing ear protectors/sound blockers, well...you're just a giant pussy then aren't you. LOL.

I think Cass is out of it for the time being. Am liking the Bobby theory a lot.

The Cursed Object leviathan guy I think was concerned about losing his sudden rise in rank. If they cut his head off, and he managed to recover it later/or is rescued, then likely the boss lady will be there also to point blame at him and punish accordingly.

Alright so that was a step up. The last 2 episodes have been fairly strong. Although it seems that Leviathans are getting easy to beat. I know Supernatural's budget isn't shit but is this how you pictured Leviathan? Anyway if it ends up being Bobby's ghost that might be the lamest thing ever. Although this show does pull that shit. Remember when they were trying their hardest to fool us with Ruby? Yeah I don't think anyone was surprised when she turned. Speaking of, why do they trust Meg now? Also what happened to Miner? I can't even make a fat joke because her body honesttly didn't seem bigger, only her face, did she just put her thumb in her mouth and blow really hard?

The problem with Bobby being a ghost is that the boys cremated everything so even if he wanted to be a friendly ghost, he couldn't according to the rules of the show.

Yeah, but they've had plenty of ghosts sticking around because of some random piece of DNA left on something, and we know there's still plenty of Bobby's shit in storage.  Still, I do like that God as Bobby idea better.

It was a strong episode and Padalecki really did bring his A-game.  I was dreading it when it looked like they were going to bring Cas back in full-on angel mode - considering how much they had to bend over backwards for reasons why he didn't just angel-ex-machina all their problems away before, it seemed like a perfect time to power him down.  But, luckily, that's essentially what they did by the end of the episode, as well as finally give a satisfying end to the "something's wrong with Sam" storyline, and still leave the door open for Pelligrino to come back.  Well played.

Strong episode, apart from the subplot with the girl and her brother, which felt kind of tacked on just to give Sam something to do. Since the ghost never showed up until the end, I figured it would turn out that Sam was trying to help a girl who really was schizonphrenic which, considering how terrified he is of losing his mind, would have been a better place to take it overall.

I did like the subplot with the girl and her dead brother. It showed that even though Sam had hit rock bottom, he still cared about other people. That and she was really cute.

Yeah didn't like the girl subplot. It came from nowhere and ended up nowhere. Still don't know why instead of crazy they don't make it some sort of mental connection to Lucifer.
